Absolutely immaculate - a pleasure to walk into.
Sooooo relaxing! Lovely tranquil gite and garden.
Superb gite, fantastic area/surroundings … we’ll be back.
A brilliant holiday in a comfortable and homely house.
So little traffic on the roads, it’s a treat to drive around.
Gite is excellent and very comfortable…coming back soon.
So much to see and do, we’ll be coming back next year.
Ideal position for access to the coasts. We enjoyed the relaxed country living after city life.
Peace & quiet, black starry nights … a lovely house, full of character.
Such care free holidays are always far too short.
Plenty of good walks in the area and, of course, empty roads & pleasant unspoilt villages.

Three Generations en Breton

Nige M Nottingham, UK
Review Submitted: September 12, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
So where to go and what to do on holiday with three generations of our family (70's, 40's and an 8 year old)?

Driving down quiet French lanes is always a good start to any holiday, discovering the quiet Kervelen properties at the end of one of them, with the great welcome given by Karen and Pete, ensured our stay got off to a great start.

The white farmhouse offered more than enough space for grand-parents, parents and one bouncy eight year old; having seen the lower gite that would also have been a great venue for us too. Everything was maintained to a very good standard and was clean throughout... and joy of joys, no TV, no arguments over what to watch, either get out & "do", read a book (of which there were loads) play a game (we managed the 1,000 piece jigsaw... eventually) or just watch the world and enjoying the lovely sunsets.

Staying on a working farm brings its' own entertainment; watching the farrier working on the horses, spotting magpies trying to steal the chicken-eggs or just walking through grassy lanes down to the river simply to watch the water flow by.... the farm cats may deign to visit or will simply ignore you in that way that cats do, a talent that makes we humans feel so inferior... we got several visits...

The central location allowed us a quick 45 minute flip to some of the best sandy beaches I've been too (with rock-pools) at Pentrez-Plage.. make sure to sample the most extensive menu I've ever seen at the P-P creperie, if you can make a choice inside 15 minutes you'll be well ahead of us......

For local sightseeing / activities the north "granite" coast is spectacular, there are two aquariums, a zoo and several other wildlife parks all within easy drive (1hr) as well as a plethora of chateaus and other attractions..... or you can just sit in the garden enjoying the local produce (jams / fruits / wines) and chill-out eating bread and cheese.

The local market in Huelgoat is well worth a trip, as is the scramble over the Chaos waterfall route there, whilst not to be missed is an evening "in" with one of Karens' creations, a full family meal complete with a home-grown fruit desert, a great way for us to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Loads of info-sheets in the house & the Tourist Info in Huelgoat where very helpful too.

All in all a great family base, you definately need a car to get out and about but simply staying at either house is attractive enough to make for a good holiday.

9th Summer in Kervelen

Andy1962 Leeds
Review Submitted: September 2, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We have had our summer holidays here since 2000. Both the farmhouse and cottage are superb and the property is less than an hour from the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry. Karen & Pete have been invaluable hosts providing essential local knowledge when the odd thing has gone wrong - finding local vets, doctors, mechanics ....
The setting is fantastic, surrounded by countryside and well away from main roads. Perfect setting for a quiet, relaxing break. There is plenty of local shopping and restaurants etc. for anything you could need.
Huelgoat is the nearest town and like the rest of the surrounding area is great for walking. In the local area there are loads of places to hire boats, bikes etc
The farm is ideally located for visiting the whole of the Finistere region. In just about 1 hour, you can be on fantastic beaches on the Crozon or in bigger cities/towns of Quimper, Brest and Guingamp if you need hypermarche.
There are 100's of smaller villages with historic buildings, markets, museums, festivals etc.
Check out finisteretourisme.com for a pretty good idea of what there is to see and do.
If you want a peaceful, laid back holiday with a warm welcome, this is the place to go.
