THE ARTSY LOFT IN OLD SAN JUAN

Special Offer! Special low rate! $150.00/n + charges August 1 - December 23

San Juan Apartment Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, sleeps 5

This apartment is unique! This amazing artsy loft is in a historic building. The loft is on street level. No carrying luggage up a steep flight of stairs or walking down some dark corridor to reach it. 20 ft. high ceilings and marble floors in the lower level. Hard wood stairs (comfortable to climb, not too steep) lead you to the second level where the beautifully designed kitchen, the dining area and bedrooms are located. All hard wood floor on the second level. An original mural by artist Sofia Maldonado adorns the hallway. Stunning contemporary art pieces on all the walls.

The spacious master bedroom has a queen size bed. The second room has two twin beds and a small futon. In total we can accomodate 5 people. Most apartments in Old San Juan have just one bathroom. Ours has 1 1/2 bathrooms. Full bathroom on the first floor and 1/2 bathroom on the second. Quiet, comfortable, spacious, a/c in all areas. Condominium has two interior patios in common areas. This apartment is very elegant! You will live a luxurious vacation if you stay in the Artsy Loft.

You can easily walk all Old San Juan and dine at the most renowned restaurants, visit the forts and see the most spectacular views of the San Juan Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Starbucks, Old Harbor Brewery, local bars, the most lively 'plazas' are one and two blocks away. Long walk (with Atlantic Ocean View) to Escambron beach, Condado and Miramar or take the bus or a cab! Taxi and bus stand are a block away. Visit Old Sand Juan and experience the Old City in the most extraordinary artsy setting!!

Good Day Lourdes,

It seems that the Home Away Page that requests a review requires that I join Face Book to leave a review; I don't want to join FaceBook. Below is what I wrote on the page until the stop. Just wanted you to know. And we, did rush out of there without thanking Wanda, so if you can please let her know we appreciated here welcoming us and being around just in case. Peace, Andres

This is indeed just as described by the owners and prior guests: it's in a great central Old San Juan location; has a unique artistic layout; and you are taken care of by attentive/helpful hosts. My wife, son, and I felt very comfortable and were very pleased. Would do it again, with little hesitation--most likely will. Just two little warnings, and this is nitpicking on my part: since the apartment is street level, you will hear a few street sounds wafting in, especially on a Saturday night for example. I like it because part of our culture is open and we want to feel connected to what's happening all around us, however if you want deep silence, beware; perhaps a high rise hotel or the hills would suit you better (the apartment bedrooms are in the back and away from the street, so sleep at night was no problem at all). Also, it is a loft, so there are stairs to deal with on a daily basis, so if you have a problem with a short flight of stairs, then again, maybe not for you--I turned 54 during this visit and had no problem with street sounds or stairs. I have to say it was one of my best visits to the island that I've ever had; and with family in/near San Juan, I have had countless visits. To the owners and hosts, my warm big thanks for making it all so nice and easy.

I love Old San Juan. It is like a small village full of charm, history and wonderful people! You haven't been to Puerto Rico if you don't stay in Old San Juan.

Lourdes or Sofia purchased this apartment in 2009

We needed a lot of imagination when we bought this loft! We had to rebuild it from scratch. But that is the fun of it! Today, it is nowhere near what it was then. The restauration took over a year. But we knew it was going to be unique! And it is!! Marble and hard wood floors, exquisite contemporary art, all new appliances. It is the Artsy Loft! Unique in Old San Juan.

It is situated in one of the best streets in San Juan, close to all the great restaurants and hotels. Completely repaved, Tetuan Street goes from the Teatro Tapia up to la Capilla del Cristo. It is a wonderful promenade. It is also close to the port and the beautiful Paseo La Princesa. Walking distance from taxi stand, bus stop and parking lots. What more could I ask for!

Awesome stay in el viejo San Juan

  • 4 of 5
Comfortable, roomy,
Beautiful. And the best thing about this loft is that it's so close to everything. We kept our rental car in doña fela parking even though it was more expensive , but it was close, accessible always and safe. We were pleasantly surprised, since usually the pics are nicer than the place but it was exactly as depicted in the website.

Great location, clean, cozy, & fun!

Great location, clean, cozy, & fun!

The Artsy Loft was clean and comfortable...with great/easy access to Old San Juan. The listing description had it right for locale, layout, amenities. Lourdes provided excellent customer service. I would recommend this location to other travelers who want the experience of living there, rather than just being a typical tourist. This includes all the late-night activity (BTW, be ready for the loud restaurant staff nearby cleaning late at night and prepping early in the morning) to the morning/daytime activity at area cafes, restaurants, bars, etc. While we felt safe in the Loft, we think the front windows on the doors that face the street could use more secure materials--rather than just the wooden shutters/blinds. We thoroughly enjoyed renting bicycles and touring around at our own pace the sights of Old San Juan and (modern) San Juan and its beaches. We took a day trip with a small tour (total of 6 people) to the El Yunque Rainforest using a small company that had great/personalized service called Bespoke Lifestyle Management. Each night we were so thrilled to return to our cozy Arsty Loft, make our own dinner and mojitos when we were feeling up to it, and just unwind in a relaxing environment...our home for a week. Te quiero, Viejo San Juan!

Great Accomodations

  • 5 of 5
The apt is exactly what you see. The location was very convenient to all the points of interest and was walking distance to grocery and ferry that takes to you the Bacardi museum. Once you get to the part of the island where Barcardi is located it was just $3/pp by taxi. You are given drink tickets for FREE drinks before the tour! The ferry was just $1.00RT. Forts were walking distance but you are also able to take the free trolley from stop #4 if you don't want to walk up the hill. I highly recommend the walk at night it was Beautiful seeing the forts and cemetery lit up. Back to the apt. Water pressure was great. Never ran out of hot water. There is a stovetop but no oven but I don't cook! We just bought breakfast items at ate breakfast before taking off each day. We ended up renting a car. Enterprise is just a couple of miles away and they will pick you up. It was very easy to catch a taxi when we dropped it off at the taxi line right across the street by the Denny's. Dona Fela parking was very reasonably priced. $1.50 first hour and then 50 cents each hr after until 6PM. Then from 6PM to 6AM it was just $4. We didn't even use the car one day and was under $20 two nights and all day. I also recommend the little hole in the wall restaurant right next door. It looks like a dive but the food was AWESOME!!! Their rice and beans were as good as my grandma's! Fried chicken.. yum! And they actually made the best tostones I've ever found. But still have yet to find them as good as my mom's and aunt's..lol. I enjoyed their food more than Raises around the corner. And prices were under $10 a plate. I would definitely stay here again. The only thing I suggest being that the streets are narrow and Calle Tetuan being a popular thru street for cars is that you bring ear plugs. It was not a problem for us as we were upstairs in the bedrooms which were nice and dark and quiet. But if you have a larger party and need to use the sleeper downstairs its very loud all day and night with motorcycles, honking, trucks, trash truck. I tried to take a nap but was very hard with all the passing traffic. The air conditioners work great. We kept very cool and there were fans in each room and ceiling fans that work awesome downstairs. The only think I suggest is that the master bdrm and kitchen a/c's be serviced. I think the filters need to be changed. There was an odor when they ran. Loved your apt!

Owner's Response: Hi Marissa, Thank-you for your detailed review. I am sure it will be very helpful to other travelers.
For a few weeks Calle Tetuan did have a lot of traffic because Fortaleza St. was being repaved. However, Fortaleza is now open again to the traffic and Tetuan went back to its usual low traffic flow. The noise is gone.
I also followed your suggestions about servicing the a/c. Now that is done. Hope you can come back soon. It was great having you with us.

clean, comfortable, excellent location

  • 5 of 5
My three daughters and and I were most pleased with our stay at Artsy Place in Old San Juan on our trip to celebrate my 80th birthday and to meet cousins we had never met and so enjoyed getting to know with a highlight for me being a visit to San German where my father was from. Our location for visiting all of Old San Juan was perfect for walking, shopping, dining, and taking the trolley to visit the Fort. We so appreciate your stocking a few items in the refrigerator for us, especially the morning coffee after our late arrival, and so appreciate your being their to greet us. All communication was clear and efficient. Muchas gracia por todos and I am sure, if we have the opportunity to visit PR again, we will stay with you!
