The Lodge and the Cabin are the guest quarters for the historic Rio Ynez Ranch, an 85-acre horse ranch in Santa Ynez. Previously, these two houses were only available to guests of the owner, including many storied personalities. Now you can share in the total privacy--- while only 5 minutes from downtown Santa Ynez, 10 to Los Olivos. Stroll 100 paces and sit at the edge of the Santa Ynez River and listen to the landscape of birdsong. Sit on the sprawling deck with a glass of local wine and ponder the uninterrupted panorama of mountains. Swing on a hammock in the orchard and read. You won’t see a sign of civilization during your stay. Furnished with a mixture of antiques and rare rustic furniture.
The kitchen in the Lodge is fully equipped for you to cook a fine meal, but the restaurants of Santa Ynez are only moments away, wineries too numerous to mention.
The Lodge has one King Bedroom, Two Queen Bedrooms and Two Full Baths. The Cabin has One King Bed and one Full Bathroom.
THE LODGE AND THE CABIN DO NOT RENT SEPARATELY AS THEY ARE IN SUCH CLOSE PROXIMITY. THE CABIN IS LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED FEET FROM THE LODGE, IT IS CONNECTED BY A LIGHTED PAVED PATH. Many guests of the ranch say the Cabin is their favorite spot on the ranch. It has been a honeymoon cottage. One couple was engaged in the cabin. It is very romantic and peaceful. And the bathroom in the cabin is the nicest on the ranch with a large claw-foot tub.

We want up with friends to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and renew our vows...This place was absolutely ideal! Private, serene, rustic country charm with everything you need. Our cabin was beautifully appointed and cozy and we all spent hours on the deck enjoying the landscape. Thank you, Thank you for the perfect weekend and we will be back for sure!
Wow. Completely perfect property. Honestly, the pictures don't do this place justice. Truly a quiet escape from it all. Tons of land, charm, and nature.
Will definitely be back!
We had a group of eight (four couples), and this was the best place to stay. It was in the perfect location: close enough to everything we wanted to do but felt special and secluded. Truly a beautiful spot.
We had a phenomenal time! Andrew was incredibly responsive if I had any questions. I HIGHLY recommend staying here if you have the chance!
Our family of five had an absolutely beautiful month-long stay at the Rio Ynez Ranch and could not have been more pleased with the experience. It was the perfect place for our family reunion and so lovely that we even decided to hold a small intimate wedding along the picturesque river.
First, the main Lodge was really lovely and had plenty of space for five people - we enjoyed beautiful sunsets reflecting off the mountains from the wrap-around porch and ate most of our meals on the large outdoor dining table. It was furnished with charm as well as practicality, with nearly all our needs met down to the finest detail. They had things we didn’t even know we needed but sure enjoyed (like cowboy hats and an antique Scrabble board)!
Even more charming than the Lodge was the smaller Cabin, rustically decorated but with all the comfort and luxury we needed - a beautiful big bathroom, an unbelievably comfortable bed, and plenty of shade and privacy. A magic little place a short walk from the lodge.
Second, the service was impeccable. Andrew and the ranch manager, Dave, were perfect gentlemen and met all our needs with generosity and speed. They truly went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed and always responded promptly. We could not have been better taken care of - the service really made our experience that much more enjoyable.
Thirdly, location-wise, the property offered the perfect balance of serene solitude and access to a range of activities: fine dining in Santa Ynez and Los Olivos, wine tours through the lovely Santa Ynez Valley, great hiking and cycling throughout the valley and into Los Padres National Forest, and a reasonable and scenic drive into Santa Barbara.
We also happened to be there during a really beautiful and action-packed time of year. Nearly every weekend we were there, some interesting and delightful event was taking place nearby: from local food festivals to Native American Pow-Wows to harvest celebrations, it was a fun and delicious month! We particularly enjoyed having so many fresh, local farmer’s markets nearby, with one nearly everyday of the week in either Solvang or Santa Barbara. We have never been to such diverse, delicious and festive farmers’ markets anywhere!
In sum, we could not have dreamed of a more special place to spend a month relaxing, exploring, and celebrating this beautiful area. Many thanks Andrew, we may have found a future home in the Santa Ynez/Santa Barbara area!
I don't know what we were expecting but this place is unlike any other vacation home I've ever visited. You feel like you stepped back in time. There's the absolute privacy of the location. We only saw one man on a tractor and another cowboy on horseback the whole weekend. The countryside and river are gorgeous. And the quiet is astonishing. I've been having trouble sleeping and my first night in the lodge I slept ten hours of uninterrupted. The lodge and cabin are furnished in a very western way with a lot of antiques and collectibles but the effect is not kitschy. There are some beautiful pieces here. And it's truly on a ranch. When we arrived a herd of horses galloped alongside our car. Bring your boots. This is not some ranch-style place. This is the real deal.
This very private, very wonderful place is our favorite location in the valley. The cabin is a blend of rustic elegance and privacy near the Santa Ynez River and less than 5 minutes from town. We were planning on spending a month here, but had such a great time that we extended our vacation by an additional month. Andy, Scott and Dave could not have been more accommodating or pleasant. We definitely will be back to this wonderful place!
The Santa Ynez Valley is famous for its wineries and unspoiled pastoral vistas. There are fine restaurants and humble cowboy bars. Enjoy Cachuma Lake, bicycling, golf, gliding, hiking, horseback riding, or just hanging out. Santa Barbara with it's beaches and many diversions is 30 minutes away. There are several quaint shopping districts between Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang. Just two hours from Los Angeles, the Santa Ynez Valley is the perfect weekend getaway.
