While looking for a quality but reasonably affordable stay for a family vacation, we came across this property. It was such a pleasure to arrive and find the home FAR BETTER than we could have imagined! It is a very beautiful, large home with ample space and comfortable furnishings throughout and very clean. The home is immaculate and all rooms were lovely, and so many w/ huge TVs. The owners have definitely gone to a lot of effort to make the home work well for a variety of groups. There was even a grill in a large front deck. And speaking of the owner, Dale & Rae were a pleasure to work with and willingly accommodated our group; they were extremely sweet and very helpful. They are REAL Mainers and it was a real pleasure chatting with them and learning about the area. The home itself is on a gorgeous pond with a wonderful view and a private beach that I call heaven for kids. For sure it is a home that is well suited for a getaway vacation. We just had a blast, and the home was a big part of letting our family be together and share a very special time. Lastly, I don't think you can beat the price. It's more than a fair deal. Thanks Dale & Rae for the wonderful week!
PS: don't let the GPS take you on 200 South from 182 (Franklin Rd)..take 200 N..the roads get real bad if you go south.
We enjoyed our stay here on Molasses Pond. Dale and Rae, even though right next door, never bothered us. In fact, we approached them for conversation! This home is great for a family. Yes, you do have to walk through the master bedroom to get to another bedroom, but we didn't find it to be a hassle. If you are ready to "power down" and get away from city life, this place is perfect! Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor were only a 45-50 minute drive for us. On a side note, if you are coming to Maine to see Moose, it is best to visit in June or July. We didn't see any moose on our excursion/guided tour during our stay.
This is not a house, it is a glorified in-law apartment that sits above a three bay garage with the main house on the same driveway. The inside of the apartment is quite lovely. It’s been updated, and they do provide everything you need (except for your own clothing and food of course). However, to get to the third bedroom you must walk through the second bedroom. Unless of course you want to come in and out of the third bedroom by the stairs that lead up to the bedroom from the back of the garage. The laundry, which is awesome- new washer and dryer, is also off of the second bedroom. It is a very awkward layout, and not one conducive to any sort of privacy. Having to share the small lot with the owners was not what I was expecting. While Rae and Dale are very lovely people, we felt we were not told the entire truth about the “home.” Also, the ‘sandy beach’ is really a pebble/rocky beach. To cap that off, the first three days we were there we got an error message every time we turned the TV on that it was going to be shut off soon unless payment was received.
In the photos, they cut off their own house. And that door you see below the deck? That leads to the garage.
The apartment is about 40 minutes from town, through some lovely back roads. I did enjoy the view every day. We spent most of our time in Acadia (1.5hrs away from the apartment), which was a considerable hike. Not being familiar with the area, I had booked it on being told that it was only about 45 minutes from the park.
The property was well maintained, and the place was clean. The pond it sits on is truly beautiful, I could absolutely wake up to that view every day and not get tired of it! It just wasn’t a “private” retreat or house of any sort.
This was a last minute get-away for two families and it couldn't have ended up better. The house was extremely comfortable and clean. The open floor layout made it easy for the families to enjoy each other for meals and games and even TV watching, what little we did of that. I also have to mention the washer and dryer located off the main bedroom. It made life so much easier, especially with 8 people living under the same roof. The children, 3 six yr olds and a 9 yr old, were more than happy swim in the crystal clear lake all day, every day. Rae and Dale thought of everything for a wonderful lake experience. They have 2 kayaks and a paddle boat just waiting to get wet. They even supplied the life jackets. The beachfront was clean and had plenty of chairs for everyone. A huge plus was the ability to launch our boat and keep it anchored all week...that is when we weren't using it to fish or tube. In the evenings we made S'mores in the fire pit and grilled burgers and dogs on the grill. Rae and Dale were beyond helpful and only a call away if any questions arose. It was a wonderful trip, one which we hope to duplicate again and again at molasses pond.
This was the perfect vacation rental! We were looking for a place that would accommodate our young family that consists of a 1 & 3 yr old and boy were we pleased with everything! First of all the location was excellent. In a quiet/rural area right on the water, with a comfortable sandy beach. Rae & Dale were extremely sweet & helpful with providing us any info we needed. Every detail was thought of, from the beach towels, fully stocked kitchen, chairs inside and out, beach toys, boats, life vests etc. The kids played with the sand toys that were provided for hours each day and my 3 yr old caught a fish with every cast! The pond was crystal clear & clean. We saw the local loon swim by and fell asleep (on comfy clean beds) to the croaking of the frogs. We did a few day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia and Schoodic Point. All had breathtaking views and weren't too far away (about 1 hr). I would absolutely recommend this place. It's not your typical "camp".
We hit the jackpot with this homeaway rental! Our seven day vacation was everything and more than we hoped for. Dale and Rae were very helpful and responsive throughout the process – quickly responding to inquiries and providing additional information prior to the rental and providing great support and information during our stay about the local area attractions and best places to fish. They gave us excellent directions and the camp was easy to find following their instructions. The vacation lodge was spacious and very comfortable for us and our five children aged 6-16. The kitchen was fully equipped and very clean. The dining/living room area had plenty of room for casual meals or just relaxing on the sofa and loveseat. The house is right off the beach and you could enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the balcony or the picnic/fire pit area on the private beach. A separate washer/dryer room was an added bonus.
We had a great time using the kayaks and paddleboat. The private beach was tucked away in a cove and worked very well for the children as well as the adults. The stone fire pit was great for bonfires and s’mores. A nice little waterfall and trout stream were a five minute walk from the property.
The nearest grocery stores and Walmart were 30-40 minutes away at Ellsworth and the attractions at Bar Harbor are within an hour. You can pick up groceries on the way in. We enjoyed an afternoon in Ellsworth, which has many attractions, and a day whale and puffin watching at Bar Harbor (with the obligatory seafood dining experience at a great restaurant). There were too many antique stores and specialty shops within an hour to see.
We had a great time, made great friends and can’t wait until next year!
Enjoy swimming and boating on Molasses Pond from the 200 ft. private sand beach. 40 minutes to Ellsworth for shopping and 50 minutes to Acadia National Park for sight seeing.
