Hello, and welcome to Cyclin-inn in beautiful Whalan, Minnesota. I am Tammy Hughes, the proprietor of the Cyclin-inn. I am originally from Duluth, Minnesota and have been migrating south ever since I became old enough to explore Minnesota. After spending 15 years in the Twin Cities, and escaping every weekend to go biking, kayaking, or horseback riding, I decided that I should make my move a bit further south. With the Root River / Root River State Bicycle Trail being the draw, I began searching for my dream property. In discovering Lanesboro with its majestic bluffs and scenic views, I fell in love. In 2001, I found my little haven in Whalan, just 4 miles east of Lanesboro.
During the first year, I was in love again with Litefoot. He is a half Belgian and half Appaloosa draft / riding horse. Living on the outskirts of the small community of Whalan, he quickly moved in. So in the mean while, I created the Cyclin-inn. Allowing you to enjoy the peacefulness of the small community and the great outdoor scenery right out the door on the Root River, On the Root River State Bicycle Trail. Please enjoy my home and treat it as your own. You will find all the comforts of home and more. The Cyclin-Inn is located on the Root River State Bicycle Trail, on the Root River and within a block of two city parks, and Gator Greens Mini Golf. Whalan has 2 places to eat, and an outfitter within walking distance where you can rent a bike, kayak, tube, or even a canoe. Within a few blocks, you can connect with Bluff Country's Jeep Tours, and even take a horse drawn sleigh or wagon ride.
Bring your family and friends to Whalan for a fun, relaxing getaway. On your way here, explore our National Scenic Byway, Highway 16. The town of Whalan offers peaceful tranquility and opportunity to explore the Bluffs of Minnesota.
Tammy Hughes purchased this house in 2001
This property has perfect access to the Root River Bike Trail as well as the Root River.
There is a large back yard (Actually 5 acres) Great area for back yard fun. There is a fire pit, loacated on the edge of the property... great place to kick back and relax.
Horse drawn wagon rides and Bluff Country Jeep tours are available upon request.
Thanks for letting us stay in your gorgeous home. It had everything that we needed; you paid close attention to the details. Our favorite place is the front porch, watching the wildlife and enjoying the scenery
We will make sure to recommend this to our family and friends.

First time at the Cyclin Inn and not the last. Had a great time. Easy access to the Root River Trail. Sitting on the front porch you can watch bicyclist on the trail, deer walking around, birds flying by and not a single mosquito bite. Tammy and Duane were very kind and helpful but didn't intrude. The accomodations were great.
My family had a wonderful vacation at Cyclin-Inn. The home was clean, spacious, and well-equiped. It was handy having two full baths. We especially enjoyed the porch. It was a wonderful spot for our morning coffee and family conversations. From the porch we could see bikers traveling on the bike trail as well as deer, rabbits, and other wildlife. The huge yard was a perfect place for yard games. We were also pleasantly surprised to find a miniature pony and her baby near by. It was very quiet and tranquil.
The cyclin-Inn and small town of Whalen offered something for everyone. The bike trail goes right through town in front of the Aroma Pie Shop, which is a favorite stop for bikers. We sampled quite a few flavors. We also enjoyed biking to the next town for some shopping and sight-seeing. The river was great. Family members went fishing as well canoeing and kayaking. We all enjoyed the horse-drawn wagon ride through the bluffs with Tammy and Duane.
We enjoyed our vacation very much. Tammy and Duane were helpful and pleasant. We all hated to leave and would like to go back for another vacation.
Thank you, Tammy and Duane, for a most wonderful two-week vacation! The Cyclin-Inn provided easy access to the Root River State Trail for our bicycling to Lanesboro, Peterson, Rushford, and Preston. We saw outstanding views of Root River Valley, deer, turkey, squirrels, turtles, and birds. Your two-person Jacuzzi provided relaxation at the end of the day.
In addition to bicycling, we completed four quilt projects and started a new one. Cyclin-Inn’s dining area was ideal for setting up a quilting area with sewing machine and fabric cutting. This was also plenty of space for an ironing board to press projects. One project needed more fabric, and we were pleased to hear about Red-Roxy Quilt Co. in Decorah, Iowa, just a 30-mile drive from Whalan. Red-Roxy Quilt Co. is shopping bliss for experienced and new quilters looking for fabric, notions, patterns, and helpful hints. Moda Marble and Kona cotton fabrics were purchased to complete projects. Cyclin-Inn’s washer and dryer came in handy for those of us quilters who prefer to launder fabric before cutting.
While driving to Decorah, we saw Amish farmers working in fields with their teams of horses. Several farms have colorful wooden quilt blocks decorating their barns.
A most memorable part of our stay was sitting on Cyclin-Inn’s front porch watching Black Betty mothering her new-born colt. Willie of Whalan was born just hours before our arrival.
The Aroma Pie Shoppe of Whalan is a favorite dessert stop. Vacation favorites included Blubarb (blueberry and rhubarb), Apple-Cranberry-Walnut, and Peach Blueberry.
We appreciate you giving us an evening tour of the area to see the breathtaking beautiful views of the bluffs and also introduce us to your horses. Jim was thrilled to catch a Brown Trout at one of the local fishing holes. Having wireless Internet connection allowed us to stay in contact with office co-workers, and hometown neighbors and family.
This is our second stay at Cyclin-Inn. We are already planning a return visit during 2014. Vacationing just doesn’t get any better than this!
Located 4 miles from Lanesboro, just 100 feet from the bike trail, the CycleInn was a good fit for 3 couples. Plenty of parking space for cars and bikes, in a quiet location. Entire home is clean. Did not notice odors mentioned by other reviewers. Well-equipped kitchen, adequate dining area, comfortable seating in living room equipped with cable TV. Roomy first floor master bedroom with attached master bath. Another bathroom with shower on main floor. 2nd bedroom is somewhat small, with a double bed and not much floor space beside, no ceiling fan, but if you close the door, the air conditioning is adequate. 3rd bedroom with large bed, adequate floor space and closet, TV, ceiling fan and 2 windows. No, you cannot see the river from the house, but it's on the other side of the bike path, through the brush. If you're bicycling, you'll see the river off and on, where people are tubing and fishing. Proximity to the mini-golf is fun, with no encroachment by mini-golfers. Tammy's hospitality is tops! She was always nearby with help or tips, friendly and cheerful. We loved the view from the front porch while having coffee in the morning. Family photos add to the charm. Children's toys, games, reading material, maps of the area create a welcoming atmosphere.
Tammy, THANK-YOU, the cyclin-inn exceeded our expectations! The property and the cyclin-inn home was beautiful and well-maintained. After spending 3 days, 2 nights with 6 other adults,
We were all sad to have to check-out. It was the perfect location for biking the root river trail, playing minature golf, picking strawberries, just relaxing on the porch, or riding to the pie shop. We had several other friends, camping out, and staying at B&B's in the area, everyone who stopped by to visit us, couldn't believe the beauiful home we had rented, and wanted to know how we had found the cyclin-inn. Tammy Thank You again, you were a wonderful host. We will definitely be back. Mark & Bonnie Mackey West Bloomington, MN
It s was our second year for our family to rent the Cyclin Inn. Had another great time. Loved sitting on th front porch listening the birds and just relaxing. Great access to the Root River Bike Trail. House is well supplied. Tammy is very attentive to any needs. Would definitely come back again.
