Tropical fun, adventure, and relaxation await you and your family and friends. There are a variety of excellent surf spots starting with the beach break just past the pool. The natural beauty of Costa Rica is served up inside and out in this beautifully designed home located close to town, but far from anything you have ever seen in this area of Costa Rica. The open architecture takes advantage of the incredible setting. The home feels light and airy with great views from almost every window. Lush gardens and the sweeping sand beach are seamlessly joined by natural trees and plants.
Comfort! Each bedroom has a dedicated air conditioner, fan, screened windows and sliding glass doors. The beds, interior, and exterior furniture are excellent quality and very comfortable. Much of the furniture was built by local craftsmen. The family room, dining room, kitchen, and upstairs seating area have ceiling fans, and screened windows and doors.
Playa Dominical and the nearby coastal town of Uvita have loads of restaurants featuring local flavors and casual dining. The variety of eateries bring out the international diversity of people who have found their way to this fantastic, tropical beach town. The community of Dominical is very welcoming and the authentic Costa Rican, Pura Vida vibe abounds. There are no casinos, highrise hotels, or fancy nightclubs; but Dominical does have a great night life based on people coming together to eat, drink, dance, and socialize in the casual atmosphere of this south Pacific beach town. The place has something surprising and pleasant for people of every age.
The home and surrounding environment is very family and child friendly, designed to make it easy for people to spend time together in paradise. It is important to remember as with all Pacific beaches and resorts, young children should be supervised while playing in the ocean or pool. The beach at low tide is expansive and inviting. Sunrises and sunsets are often spectacular. You will find much of what you have dreamed of Costa Rica, right here at Caballitos del Mar (Little horses of the Sea).
Keywords: On The Beach at Dominical. Tropical villa. Lush jungle surroundings. Close to town, sights, and restaurants. Spacious. Beautiful pool. Surf, boogie board, walk on the beach. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Incredible variety of native birds. Lots of space inside and out to enjoy the surroundings and relax.
Our family has grown up often traveling together to the southern climates of Mexico, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica. We live in Santa Cruz, California and have the beautiful Monterey Bay as our back yard. All of us have an affinity to the ocean and are drawn to the warm culture, people, and lifestyle of Costa Rica. Having our own vacation paradise has been a dream, and over the past five years we worked very hard with our friends, both in the US and in Costa Rica, to bring this dream to life. This picture is of 'The Boys' with mom and a couple of friends at Play Ventana, an incredibly beautiful and interesting beach 15 minutes south of our home in Dominical.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
We have always loved the tropics and the beach. Our oldest son was the first in the family to visit Dominical. Our previous travels in Costa Rica were through and around the mountains, Arnal, and Guanacaste. We were looking for a place that we could be together on vacation now, and for generations to come; a place where stories would be written and told, where we could play and relax together in a low stress, interesting, and tropical environment. Dominical is a relatively undiscovered gem that is accessible, but definitely a notch off the typical tourist path.
We are able to spend time together, have fun, and relax. The pool is a gathering spot with incredible views and the natural abundance of Costa Rica. The home layout makes it easy to be together or to have some quiet time by yourself. The modern conveniences make it possible to enjoy the benefits of a a barbeque or home cooked meal in a totally unique setting. The home and gardens are visited by exotic birds and the plants and flowers are amazing and ever changing. We are able to go play in the ocean without leaving 'the yard.' It is right out front! We can go surf, take walks, and play games without ever having to get in a car.
To put this house & this vacation into words is quite difficult,,,,,there are no words to describe the beauty, serenity, calmness, magnificence, location, amenities, cleanliness....etc, etc.....I absolutely love this place.....Last year our entire family(6 of us) rented the middle house, and loved it, so this year we decided to go back. Unfortunately it was already rented...bummer, but Federico assured me that this house is just as nice. He was so, so correcto!!!! This year we had Jennifer arrange a chef to come in, cook us a typical Tico meal. It was wonderful & so fun having someone cook in our house. Jennifer also did the grocery shopping for that dinner which was nice. Jennifer also arranged for massages in our house & that was splendid. These 2 women who did the massages were fantastic.....everyone should do this for sure!!!! We visited waterfalls nearby, walked along the beach many, many times daily, swam & relaxed in the pool, and just enjoyed the beautiful sounds of this place. I also love Jennifer's dog, and I miss her so...We found some great new resturants like ?Porque No? and Roca Verde was super good, and the restaurant at Cuna del Angel was superb. Horseback riding on the beach was breath-taking, and the snorkeling at Cano island is also a must...I could go on & on, but I think you now understand what a vacation at this place would be like.....Oh, I forgot the surfing....that was a blast!!!!! See y'all soon...Pura Vida.....
We had four couples go to this house as a get away from our everyday busy lives. We couldn't have been happier about our experience. The house, views and service was unmatched. Jennifer takes care of you like you are her own family. We would go back in an instant. I would recommend this house to anyone that wants a getaway in paradise. I have been to a lot of places, but this is the most relaxed getaway I have had. Be sure to get the chef to come in and cook brunch and/or dinner for you. Well worth it. I highly recommend this to all travelers.
My wife had a absolutely amazing stay at this beach front house. We did a lot of research about Costa Rica concerning location, beaches, etc. and were sold on this house. Bottom line: the house and location totally exceeded our already high expectations.
The location to the beach, private pool, spacious modern, well kept home was just perfect for our week long get away. Jennifer the house keeper was great and helped any time we needed anything, but was never in our way. She lined up massages right in the house, reservations at local restraunts and was very friendly.
Dominical is a very small surfer beach village that we rather enjoyed. There were good places to eat and the locals were very friendly.
We had a fantastic experience with Dylan at Sunset Surf Dominical. We took surf lessons on two different days and I was able to check off a bucket list item, while experiencing one of the most beautiful things in my life.
The beaches right in front of the houe are great with big waves at high tide and smaller waves and more expansive beach at low tide. You can litterally walk to town from the house (little over a mile) at low tide.
We plan to go back with family next time.
We loved this house, the pool, the view and the overall setting, it is truly lovely. Jennifer, the on site property manager is wonderful, she helped with every aspect of the trip from organizing excursions to cleaning the house. Her adorable, sweet dog Soy became our mascot for the visit.
While this spot is a ways from San Jose, once you get to Dominical and Caballitos del Mar, you are.a five minute drive from a very adequate market in one direction and a fresh fish stand in the other, making it quite easy to cook simple tasty nutritious meals if you are so inclined.
There are a variety of diverse excursions within an hour's drive of the property.
The only thing to consider is the fact that the ocean here is not for regular swimming, it is too rough. It is fun for boogie boarding or body surfing or just playing in the waves but you can't swim in it per se. The water temperature is divine, around 85 degrees, which makes it delightful.
We look forward to retuning next year
My wife and I wanted to return to Costa Rica with our four children (ages 15-25) and were looking for a beach house where we could spend Christmas after a few days of jungle adventure at Drake Bay. We were joined by a close family friend (77 years young) and found an outstanding home for the holidays at Caballitos del Mar. The home was perfect for our needs with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom for our friend, plenty of space upstairs for our family, and several gathering places for dinner, drinks and games. The home is located in an enclave of three homes with no adjacent development. There is a full-time security guard but we've never had any problems in CR before. Each home has a private pool and looks out over one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Our hostess for our stay was Jennifer, who checked us in and helped with local arrangements such as transport and restaurant recommendations. She also pitched in with our laundry when the dryer went on the fritz.
The town of Dominical is a 20-minute walk down the beach (low tide only) and a great destination at sunset. We can also recommend two local activities: ziplining with Osa Mountain Adventures (45 min south) and ATV touring with Karl at Diamante Verde Tours (office in town). The ziplining was excellent (even for a 77-year-old) but the ATV tour was our group's favorite activity of the trip. Karl drove us up into the mountains and we got a real "back door" tour of the countryside, ending with a swim stop at an incredible waterfall and lunch at his property overlooking a stunning valley.
After two trips to CR over Christmas holidays, I would recommend Caballitos del Mar to families like ours or groups of three couples.
We stayed in this lovely house for almost a week. The rooms were comfortable and provided plenty of space and privacy for the four of us. Beautiful views from the upper decks. Birds galore in the jungle just behind! The nearby town, Domincal, and markets and road side stands had everything we needed for wonderful meals, or last minute and forgotten items. On our 10 minute walk into town we saw sloths, toucans, tanagers, amazing hummingbirds and had a wonderful meal at a Thai restaurant with a fabulous view of the river. Jennifer was a wonderful caretaker and both she and Federico answered every question we had. Definitely planning to return for a much longer stay.
