We have a beautiful, contemporary mountain home located at the end of a very quiet and private cul-de-sac in the West Meadows neighborhood of Kirkwood Mountain Resort. Our 2000 sq. foot home is located on a large (1/3 acre), private lot below the Two Sentinels. We purchased the newly built house in 2000 and are making it available for rental for the first time. The house is bright and sunny with fantastic views of the Red Cliffs in the front, and the El Dorado National Forest in the back.
This is the perfect vacation house for families as well as couples who enjoy great outdoor activities but want all the comforts of home during their vacation.
The house has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, sleeps 8 and has a two car garage. We have a snowplow service that clears the driveway of the 500 inches of snow Kirkwood averages per winter. Kirkwood’s free homeowner shuttle will pick you up in front of the house and take you to Timber Creek – a five minute drive from the house. When backcountry access is open advanced skiers can take chair 6, climb up behind Glove Rock and catch fresh powder all the way back to the house!
Our home has all of the amenities you need for a wonderful mountain vacation, including a fully equipped kitchen, high definition home theater with a 50 inch Samsung 1080p HD television, HD Tivo and Blu-ray, an indoor spa as well as a two car garage. A large DVD library is available, and guests can stream Netflix movies as well as stream movies from Amazon on Demand. The great room’s wood burning fireplace heats up the entire upper floor of the house.
The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with en-suite bathroom and television. Downstairs has a full bathroom, one guest room with a queen-sized bed, and one guest room with two twin beds. The sofa sleeper in the living room also converts to a full sized bed.
We have a front-loading washing machine and dryer, along with a multi-zone audio system for the house, high speed (6 Mbps) Internet and Wi-Fi. An additional TV is located in one of the downstairs guest rooms, along with a Boston Acoustics clock radio that works with iPhones and iPods.
Skiers will love the large garage with room for plenty of skis and boards, ski tuning table, and prime location in one of the finest ski resorts in the USA. The cross-country skiing meadow is a 5 minute walk from the house. Adventurous and physically fit guests can make use of our 4 sets of Atlas snowshoes to hike up to the Two Sentinels from our backyard.
In the summer and fall enjoy the incredible view of the Red Cliffs from the large deck outside of the front of the house. Great hiking trails are nearby, along with horseback riding at Kirkwood stables, fishing and boating at nearby Caples Lake and Silver Lake as well as the hundreds of small hike-in lakes in the area, or mountain biking the slopes of Kirkwood (lift accessed in the summer) or the world class trails of South Lake Tahoe (the trailhead for Toad’s Wild Ride is less than 1/2 hour away).
Kirkwood skier for 28 years. Kirkwood homeowner for 10 years. I enjoy downhill, cross-country and backcountry skiing, as well as snowshoeing in the winter. In the summer you'll find me riding my mountain bike or taking my kayak out on Silver and Caples Lakes. My day job is founder and CEO of a Silicon Valley tech startup.
Kirkwood has the best snow, best conditions, best terrain, and least crowds of any ski resort in Tahoe. It's also fantastic in the summer for hiking, mountain biking and boating. It's the "Alta" of Tahoe. When we started to look at Kirkwood properties we discovered that most houses in the West Meadows do not have garages or driveways. Our house has a nice big driveway and two car garage! We also wanted a house that got morning sun, and our house is very bright and sunny. We also wanted a newer home with a clean, contemporary design. Finally, the indoor spa was the closer for us!
Our house is located at the end of a cul-de-sac in the West Meadows. So while it's only 5 minutes from the chairlifts, it's extremely quiet and private. Plus, you can go out in the backyard, put on snowshoes, and do a 3 hour roundtrip hike up to the Two Sentinels. While our house is not ski-out, it is ski-in. When backcountry access is open you can go up chair 6, hike up behind Glove Rock, and ski through fresh powder in the trees to the backyard of our house. Experts only though! And snowboarders don't have the edges to keep the high traverse up, so two plankers only. We bought the house new from a Kirkwood ski instructor who built it. It's an awesome house, and we've decided to let other people enjoy this season by renting it out on occasion when we're not using it.
