'Casa de Cielo' or the 'house from heaven' as the original Costa Rican owners named it is a private refuge where one can truly feel that he or she is surrounded by rainforest and not people. Even though it is five minutes from the beach, due to the beautiful jungle surroundings the pool is completely private and unable to be seen by anyone that is not staying there. The birds and perfume from jungle flowers awaken you in the morning. A cool breeze reminds you that you are truly off the beaten path.
The house is made from natural Costa Rican wood, built lovingly as a vacation home by 'Ticos' from another era. The lanai has an ocean view and one can sit in a hammock and watch the monkeys play or the macaws and hummingbirds fly by. The kitchen and bathroom have all modern amenities.
Amigos del Rio, an outfitter is at the bottom of the hill for those who want to go rafting, kayaking, zip-lining, etc.
'Abuela' (grandmother in Spanish) lives at the bottom of the hill and keeps an eye on all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren who own homes on the small road leading up to Casa de Cielo. She has a small 'soda' where she sells the most delicious fresh fish, rice and beans that you have ever tasted. This is truly Costa Rica-not a slapped together American condo.

Turn the clock back to the simple elegance of 1950's Costa Rica. Natural wood treehouse setting surrounded by forest.
We are a family of four that has been in love with Costa Rica collectively or separately for forty years. We were thrilled to have a piece of the rainforest we could share with like minded people.
Eileen & Trey Fox purchased this chateau / country house in 2007
We chose to buy a vacation home in Costa Rica because of its deep commitment to preserving the environment and national parks. The Costa Ricans are friendly, peaceful people, and as the t-shirts say NO Army Since 1948!
Starting around 6:00 a.m. one is at eye level with the parrots who visit the treetops. The hummingbirds arrive around 7:00. Monkeys and kinkajous make their rounds later in the day. Some of 'Grandmas' chickens show up around noon. The beaches are five minutes away as well as the famous Manuel Antonio Park. Great restaurants with fresh seafood or more typical rice and beans are close as well as clubs and bars for those who like to party. For those with a flare for adventure the Amigos del Rio is at the bottom of the hill. They can provide you with rafting, kayaking and river tours This is a truly Costa Rican neighborhood and the locals will welcome you and watch out for you. In addition there is a five star resort right above us by a separate entrance. The couches provide a comfortable recluse for a good book.
This is the perfect place to 'unplug' for a break from all the media pollution-or of course if quiet is not your thing we have t.v., cable, and internet access.
We were disappointed and surprised on arrival to find that there were people living below us. These turned out to be the caretaker and her family. From the description we believed the property to be for our sole use and that the caretaker lived elsewhere. We didn't really have a problem with them being there but felt cheated that we weren't informed of this , especially when we expected to have the place to ourselves. The kitchen was poorly equipped , no spoons at all ! The cooker took ages to heat up. There was not much crockery. It was lucky there was only two of us as definatly not enough for four. I also saw a cockroach in the kitchen area one day .We had to make the bed ourselves after trying to find sheets that fitted. The DVD didn't work. The property wasn't very clean and felt a bit tired overall. The floors weren't stained in the corners, not all the lights worked in the bedroom. Some of the boards on the balcony were loose. It is a VERY steep climb up to the house, it's lucky we are quite fit but the property couldn't be recommended for older people. On the plus side the property is surrounded by trees and plants. The birds are all around. The pool is great. There is a bus at the end of the road. We enjoyed our stay here but felt we didn't get value for money when we saw other properties that were the same sort of price but of a much higher standard. I believe the description should be more accurate and the price reduced. We don't feel happy enough with the owners to recommend it to anyone else.
The house was above and beyond my boyfriend's and my expectations! Beautiful home up high on a hill with a private pool. The house was surrounded by gorgeous trees and plants. Often had visits from iguanas and two different types of monkeys, each of which we could watch from the amazing porch or pool! The walk up to the house is a little steep, so may not be suitable for people who have difficulty walking up many flights of stairs, etc. We stayed at the house for just shy of two weeks, though I wish we could have stayed longer! It's location is great, you're close to both Manuel Antonio and Quepos. Very easy to catch a taxi at the beginning of the driveway, we were also able to catch the bus a few times. While it was only my boyfriend and myself staying at the house, it could have easily slept about 2-3 more people. The house caretakers, Angie and Elver, were both very friendly and helpful, as were the owners and property manager! Overall, this house is a fantastic place to stay while in Manuel Antonio and I would highly recommend it!
