About DeAnne Black

We purchased this property five years ago after searching for more than two years. The entire family felt it was time to perhaps create something for the family. The kids(3) and I also required that it be something that my husband (a business turnaround specialist)loved for a change. He has been a wine fanatic for his entire life. We had a family meeting and agreed that we were all in for the adventure in Wine. For my part, leaving the design painting business was an easier choice since the market was slowing rapidly.

The first year was more work than anyone expected. With 60 acres of land, 25 acres of grapes, two houses, two huge barns and a couple small barns, we had more to do than we could get to. One of our top priorities was to rehab the grandmother’s house on one of the secluded peaks. It was redesigned right from the begining as a vacation rental.

We wanted this place to be a representation of our life. It is filled with furniture and art collected all over the US and the World. It is so peaceful here that it just called out for a spa. We especially like the spa perched on the top of the hill overlooking the valley to the west. Comfort was also high on our list – We think you will agree that it has turned out great and is unique.

Why DeAnne Black chose Santa Rosa

From the start we were interested in some type of vacation rental or B&B as part of the business. About half of the properties we considered had potential for a vacation rental. Our bigger decision was were to start with the wine business. It is a complex business and very capital intensive. We choice to start with grapes since great wine must start with great fruit.

Sonoma is one of the top wine regions in the world. It is also one of the most beautiful locations in the US. We are privileged to have one of the best views around and we can share this with you.

The bonus of this location is that while we have a peaceful, rural vineyard, we are very centrally located with easy access to Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and ALL the wine areas.

It really is the best of all worlds.

What makes this house unique

As our guest you are welcome, and encouraged, to explore the vineyards. Walk, run, picnic or bike, it is a new vista on each of the three peaks on the property.

Many guest are looking forward to sampling the wine region and the wines of Sonoma a second to none. Our central location is excellent for multiple day trips in different directions, all easy to get to.

Napa is 30 mins awasy and San Francisco is 45 mins away and a direct route over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time here - just wound up being one night. Perfect for two couples. Three of the four of us did the first Levi's Grandfondo in Santa Rosa. Needless to say, the cold pool, hot tub and sauna were all food for the bones and muscles! The view is amazing! We also enjoyed hearing the wind among the trees. A walk through the vineyard is a must. Another great view up above the Merlot & Pinot grapes. If you are lucky - Mitch will let you barrel taste his private stash! Yummy - We loved the Zin he had in a 1/4 barrel. We enjoyed talking with DeAnne and Mitch and hearing their story of how they got here - cheers to them for taking a risk we have all thought about.

We hope to return!

A DREAM RETREAT!!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely "guest house" is the PERFECT escape from the stress and worries of every day life. The house had everything we wanted...and it was cozy and warm to come home to each day. My husband and I spent 7 glorious days at the Black Knight Vineyards...and the weather was PERFECT (although a little chilly!). We explored the winery property by foot and spent long evenings in the amazing hot tub with some yummy wine in hand! Speaking of yummy wine- The Black Knight's Pinot, Chardonnay and red blend were all OUTSTANDING! Deanne and Mitch, our hosts, are definitely on to something here! We also got a very special treat of tasting their Pinot Noir Reserve on New Year's Day. It was a great way to start the new year. During our week long trip - we went out and explored other vineyards and tastings and spent a wonderful morning at the Charles Shulz Museum (a big treat for me...I LOVE SNOOPY!) and did a New Year's Day hike in the Redwood Forrest (a MUST for any traveler coming to this area!). The master suite is really wonderful with a nice big (uber-comfortable) bed and the master bath was lovely too. We had everything (and more) in the kitchen to use, and I tried to convince my husband to have dinner at home as much as possible....I just wanted to get back and get cozy and relax at the end of a long day or wine tasting! There were no "negatives" from our visit (except that we had to leave!!). We are already planning our next trip back for more fun on the vineyard! You will NOT be disappointed if you stay here!

Everything we wanted, and more

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I, who are both caring for dependent parents, needed an escape and decided on a trip to wine country. I am so glad we chose Black Knight Vineyards, as we were easily in range of all the area's attractions, but also because we got the peace and tranquility we were so in need of. Our host's amiable demeanor laid the groundwork, the two family dogs provided comic relief, and the absolutely beautiful setting and views from the guest house were above what we expected. We got to ride out the "epic storm" with the aid of two pellet stoves which kept the house very comfortable, and we enjoyed the hot tub so much that we sat out in it in the rain while watching the valley below. In the morning, a herd of Angus cows munched grass in view of the kitchen window, and in the afternoon a dozen horses appeared in the front of the property. We were a 5 minute ride from Matanzas Creek Winery, which was our first sampling stop, but the Black Knight Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were both excellent and worth coming for. We also made a visit to some tasting rooms in Healdsburg and Sebastapol, and visited the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, so plenty to do within reach. But it was after returning "home" in the evening to the guest house with our wine, cheese and bread that our real vacation began. This guest house has everything you need... and more!

Lovely escape with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this lovely get away with 4 adults and 3 kids and it had something for everyone. The pool and jacuzzi provided a way to stay cool or hot depending on the weather, and the views of the valley were spectacular.

The owners were extremely gracious and all in all we had a splendid time, hiking, eating and just chilling out with the views.

Perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the house for a few days after our wedding so that we could have extra time with family in a low-key setting. It was the perfect retreat. We swam, hung out in the hot tub, watched the sun set, and drank the delicious wine. We all had a very hard time leaving! But we'll be back.

Great girlfriend getaway with spectacular views

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I wanted a quick get away for some R & R. The Blackknight Vineyard was perfect. It was so relaxing, and the views were spectacular. The photos do not do this place justice, because it was better than we imagined. We enjoyed drinking our wine in the spa as the sun was setting. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay.

The owners lived on the property and they were very nice and made us feel at home. Every morning the owners brought us fresh eggs for breakfast, as they had chickens on their vineyard. The owner's dogs paid was several visits and we just loved having them around. Even the neighbors cows stopped by, and it was the first time we had seen cows so up close and personal.

We all had a wonderful, relaxing girls getaway, and hope to come back next year.
