|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
This bright, tastefully decorated, comfortable mountain getaway is yours to share. The latest addition: a private state-of-the-art Jacuzzi hot tub on the deck, perfect for unwinding and sharing exploits of the day. Very well priced for the location, size, quality and amenities, this place will feel special without being absurdly pricey. Recent renovations include a 'mud room' upon entry with electric boot dryer, cubbies and hooks for outdoor clothes and gear -- all stored and ready for your next day out on the slopes.
Location is a major feature of this condo. Old Town is less than a 10 minutes walk away. Free shuttle buses stop right below the condo, with 9 scheduled per hour in winter. The buses go pretty much everywhere, including all 3 ski mountains.
The townhouse condo is an end unit on the sunny side of the valley (earning the name 'Sunspot'). It has an interesting multi-level design, with a nice flow and tasteful decor, topped by an atrium and skylight. The 3 bedrooms are on separate levels with attached bathroom. All bedrooms have flat screen TVs (people seem to want them on vacation), and there's a 42-inch HD TV in the living room. The place has cable and wifi. A gas fireplace keeps things cozy; same for the reclining couches! The infrared gas grill is on the same outside deck as the hot tub, overlooking the valley.
8 adults can sleep in the 3 bedrooms. If needed, the living room has an inflatable full (double) bed and a couple of camp mattresses more suitable for children. In practice, people more often just throw bedding on the super-comfortable couch for any extra sleeping space. There's a trundle rollaway bed under the twin-over-full bunk bed.
Two covered parking spaces in the garage underneath the complex accommodate almost any vehicle (don't rent a super-tall SUV and you'll be fine.) The ski locker in the garage keeps your skis on the most convenient level. You could go green and save green in the winter if you only intend to ski the 3 areas near Park City, including Deer Valley, Park City Mountain and the Canyons. (You'd want a car to reach Snowbird / Alta or Brighton / Solitude.)
The kitchen offers modern appliances and utensils, a mounted flat TV, and countertop and table dining. It isn't tricked out with granite and custom cabinetry, but it guests tell me it's more than sufficient for vacation meal prep. We stock basic cooking supplies and spices; guests are asked to use and replace on an honor system.
A note on bed configuration:
Lower bedroom: Bunk bed with Twin on top and Full on bottom, plus a pull-out trundle most suitable for a child.
Middle bedroom: Queen bed and Twin bed.
Upper bedroom: Queen bed.
Living room: Inflatable full (double) bed + 2 camp style inflatable mattresses most suitable for kids. (Couches do not pull out into beds, but folks have been known to toss a couple of sheets and blankets and crash on them.)
I live and work in Washington, DC as an attorney for the Department of Justice. In my spare time, I hang out with friends and family, get culture, do yoga, pretend to stay fit by running, biking and the like, read, volunteer, learn, do stuff. I like real books with physical pages. I lay off of Facebook, more or less.
Harry Matz purchased this condo in 2010
Convenience to everything, both skiing and town, and the feel of the place. It's bright but comfy, quirky but efficient. The floor plan allows great privacy in the bedrooms (they have no common walls or even floors, and each has an attached bathroom). The common space also flows nicely.
If you happen to prefer a car-free ski vacation, it can be done.
Harry is a professional, a gentleman, and a pleasure to deal with. Town home is well located and nicely set up for a group. New spa overlooking the ski hill was a delight after each ski day. Will definitely return.
Why would I be reluctant to write this review? I am afraid that word will get out how wonderful it is, and it will book up solid!
This condo is exactly as pictured. The layout is wonderful for a family group by offering private bedrooms with great gathering areas. It is actually 6 half levels: (1) bunk room (2) queen/twin room (3) living room (4) dining/kitchen +half bath (5) jacuzzi (6) master suite and washer. Beds are comfortable and rooms are warm (winter). The fireplace in the LR actually warms the whole room rather than making it drafty. I loved the rocker/recliners...everyone else did to. The dining table with the leaf in comfortably sat seven. For the first time, in our many years at Deer Valley, we ate in every night because there really was no need to bundle everyone up and venture out. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, and the "use it, replenish it" policy seems to work very well with the folks that Harry has chosen to rent to.
There is a bus stop right in front of the building to get anywhere around town. We enjoyed walking home from the slopes each day - it was a nice stretch after a day of skiing. Then on to the jacuzzi. The view is gorgeous and the rainbow lights are fun.
As Harry will tell you, the kitchen and bathroom fixtures are dated, but they are all in working order (everything worked just fine). It was ok with us, and keep in mind that major renovations in that area only raises the rates. We like the rates where they are, and Harry's prices are quite fair.
Each year that we visit Deer Valley, we stay at different places. This is the first place that I wanted to rebook even before our trip was over. So we did! Not only is the condo a perfect layout for us, Harry (owner) and Mike (manager) are a true pleasure to deal with. We were even surprised with a lovely welcome basket upon our arrival. Call us repeat customers and we hope that Harry will always have a [sun]spot for us (he does like it when folks come back)!
8 young women gathered at this condo for a college reunion and we couldn't have asked for more. There was the perfect amount of space and sleeping room, with the larger beds being shared by 2. The pictures posted are totally accurate. Each bedroom was plenty spacious and had its own bathroom and tv (not that we cared to watch it!). Highlights of the condo were the openness between the kitchen, living, and dining rooms, the easy to use fireplace, and the outdoor hot tub with a gorgeous view. Even though the house is not huge, noise was not an issue for those who retired to bed early. We were planning to rent a car but cancelled at the last minute and I'm so happy we did. The bus stop is literally steps from the condo and Park City's amazing FREE transit system got us anywhere we needed to go easily and efficiently.
Harry, as well as his local property manager, made our stay a breeze. They were in quick contact for any question or small issue that arose. Harry treats this condo as a home- and he clearly enjoys sharing the joys of Park City with others. In all, a fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone! I only wish we could've stayed longer :)
My family from PA CO & CA stayed there over Xmas for 6 day 12/20/14-12/26/14,
We were 6 adults and one baby.
It was lovely, close to everything
We could walk to Deer Mt & town or take the bus, right outside our door
The condo had everything, supplies, hot tub, plenty of room for us all
Harry, the owner was very helpful
We loved our stay
A group of 8 adults stayed in this condo for one week and it was absolutely wonderful. The condo's layout was perfect for a big crowd. We never felt like we were on top of each other. It has all the amenities one would need for a ski vacation. The location was perfect with a bus literally right outside the door. We never had to wait more than a few minutes for the bus to reach any of the three local mountains. Main Street is just a few minute walk away if you don't want to wait for a bus. Harry was incredibly easy to book with and was very prompt in getting back to me with any questions. He also checked in midweek just to make sure everything was going smoothly, and really goes above and beyond with personal touches to make the stay that much better. All around excellent experience.
We have been skiing in Park City/Deer Valley for over 20 years, thus know all of the locations and housing options. We chose Sunspot for rental after investigating ALL local possibilities on Homeaway and found it to be the best combination of location, comfort and most importantly, VALUE. In our opinion, too many rentals are over-priced in this market with owners that seek to skim the market. Sunspot is a nice property at a realistic price with very flexible/personable, involved ownership and solid local management. We are value-driven but very discerning renters who are used to a higher end experience. Sunspot met our needs in all respects.
