Welcome to our Cottage! If you are looking for a simple, quiet, stress-free place to enjoy the beach, this is it. It's not a fancy condo-- no long hallways, distant parking, elevators, or crowds. Best of all, the cottage is beachfront, so there are no streets to cross. The Cottage is a duplex, and this listing is for the smaller side. VRBO #77482 will show you the larger side.
The cottage was constructed in 1912 or so, as a caretaker's home for a larger house which is now gone. It has been carefully maintained and updated, but has retained the charm of a bygone era.
The interior walls are heart pine, and so are the floors, refinished by hand. Furnishings have been chosen for comfort-- a rattan recliner and matching pillow top queen size sleeper sofa in the living room, dining table for two, and king size bed in the bedroom.
It's shaded by ancient Australian pine trees and has a comfortable screened porch for a front-row view of the sunsets and stars. With the windows open at night, you can hear the surf!
Walk directly out the screen porch door, and down to the beach--no streets to cross. Or, sit out on the patio and enjoy your coffee and newspaper, or cocktails. Our guests tell us that the best part of the patio area, (besides the view) is it's size-- plenty of room for spreading out.
We are located a block away from the Cafe on the Beach, convenient for all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts, quick lunches, and relaxing dinners. The beach-front playground is a block and a half away. Take the free trolley and see the rest of the island.
The other side of this duplex, which is a little larger is also available. Ask about our other garden-side units on the same property-- our complex is perfect for family or friends traveling together.

Hi! Our family owns the Bamboo Apartments and Cottage. This is a picture of my mom and I. My grandparents purchased the adjoining lot in 1971, constructed two duplexes, and moved down from Tampa for retirement. When the Cottage became available in 1983, my parents purchased it. We love the Island, and have many years of happy memories-- sailing, fishing, playing cards, and napping in the sun. My husband and I have three sons, so there is a fourth generation ready to take the helm!

Our family chose to purchase the Cottage because there was no way we could resist! The property is huge, and has the most magnificent view of the beach, especially at sunset, and of course, we loved the neighbors (my grandparents). We live in Tampa, but visit the Island every weekend, and it is a quick trip, about an hour. The Island has an unspoiled small-town charm--like Mayberry but with sand and sun! No matter how short your stay on the Island, it will refresh your spirit.
Our cottage offers simple peace and quiet, with sunny or shady spots on the patio facing the beach. The patios are nestled in a native Florida meadow, complete with blanket flowers, railroad vine, and sea oats-- it's a trip to the past, when life was much simpler. When families visit, the patio area is a favorite of the older crowd, since it is shielded from the wind and sun, and it has a horseshoe court. The screened porch is a great place for morning coffee and the newspaper, afternoon snacks, or evening refreshments.
I loved this place, it is classic old florida style. Gladys made us feel like we were visiting family.
Not for those that want turn down service or hotel amenities, but this was exactly what I was looking for.

Deposits or rental payments are non-refundable unless owner is able to re-book entire stay. See rental agreement for complete terms and conditions. During Winter Season, on occasion there are stays of less than one week available between longer bookings. The nightly rate will apply during those circumstances. Special rates apply Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.
Rates subject to change until reservation is confirmed. One-three week stay: Check pymt: $150 check in addition to rent, due @ reservation, check held un-cashed and returned if no cancellations or damages; rent due 15 days in advance. Credit card pymt: $150 charged @ reservation , bal. due 15 days in advance, damages/cancellations billed to card. Call/email for info regarding longer stays.
Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (USD) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.
