Rustic and relaxed, this shorefront “camp” may have the most beautiful, undeveloped waterfront view on Mt. Desert Island. The two cabins nestle in a private, wooded setting at the edge of Squid Cove. On the front deck or ten steps further to the shore, there are a score of perfect spots to perch with a cup of coffee and drink in the view. You can swim from the beach or dock, kayak the in the protected corners of the cove or strike out and around Squid Island in into the Western Bay. Wildlife abounds with seals, osprey, gulls and terns your constant companions and occasional visits are paid by bald eagles. Children and adults love to investigate tidepools, walk along the rocky shore, or delve into the deep spruce forest. You might not want to leave the cove all day.
MAIN CABIN: Sitting at water’s edge, views of the cove abound. The simple interior sleeps 6 with ease. A no-fuss kitchen with bar seating overlooks a dining area with table for 8. Pass through the 2-bed bunkroom to the light and airy master bedroom with queen bed and windows all around. A full bathroom with combined tub and shower sits between the two bedrooms. The spacious, yet cozy “great room” is a perfect family area for puzzles, games or making smores at the Franklin wood stove. A futon sofa bed and set of twins at one end allow it to serve as a third bedroom. The deck off the kitchen is perfect for breakfast or evening drinks, with spectacular views of the Cove, just steps from the water and the dock.
GUEST CABIN: A log cabin sits a few steps further from the water, but enjoys views of the cove through the trees and access to the same dock and shoreline. The open kitchen and living space is cool in the heat and cozy when it rains with woodstove, a small dining table for four and two bench sofas for reading or napping. Two bedrooms, one with queen and one with twins, share a full bathroom with combined tub and shower. Depending on your mood or the weather, choose to relax on the deck outside or in the, screened porch with picnic table.
You can choose to spend your days on the Cove, exploring the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island (perfect for bikes) or 20 minutes in the car get to the hundreds of treasures of Acadia National Park and the island’s quaint towns have to offer. Night life and restaurants are fine in Bar Harbor. Rainy day amusements and outlet shopping are just far enough away.
