Blue Hill Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, large Deck, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Cove Cottage is a simple, bright and sun filled antique cape on the edge of the Village. Its granite ledges, sloping into McHeard Cove, provide on-site swimming and canoe and kayak access to the surrounding cove and Blue Hill Bay. Adirondack chairs and a fire pit overlook the water. A south facing exterior deck provides additional outside seating and dining. All rooms but the bathroom have water views.

East Blue Hill is a small, friendly village with a library (with high speed internet access), post office, park, playground and boat launch. The Curtis Cove beach, a short walk to the east of the Village, offers some of the warmest swimming on the Down East Coast.

Blue Hill, 4 miles away, has restaurants, shops, galleries, theater, concerts, a fine library.

Local farms and fishermen provide quality fresh food.

SWEET MAINE PERFECTION!

  • 5 of 5
This is my idea of perfect lodging. The simple, comfortable, soothing decor, and the location made our three night stay absolutely better than I had even hoped for.

We were able to buy local cheese, chocolate, and everything we'd need to make a hearty breakfast nearby at the Blue Hill Co-Op, and also the liquor store in Blue Hill that had everything from fishing rods and bait, to new movie releases to home baked whoopie pies.

The kitchen was well appointed and had items that I assume were left for our use in the pantry. We left a few things as well. The kitchen had any pot or pan we could need, as well as a cork screw to open the nice French Cab Franc we purchased at the Blue Hill Wine shop.

We spent time exploring the coast and went looking for our own little piece of Maine paradise to purchase this fall. Although, after staying at Cove Cottage, I'm hoping we put our own purchase off a bit, so we have an excuse to come back to Cove Cottage. Seriously, it was perfect. Great for a family of six, but even better for two parents of four little children who rarely have time to relax. We read at night, rented movies, and in the mornings sat and had coffee (local, 44 coffee) while watching the doe in the yard who seemed to like us too.

I also need to mention the unsung hero of the cottage....the queen bed. My husband and I have a Westin Heavenly Bed at home and are used to a high level of comfort. The bed we stayed in at Cove Cottage was even more comfy than what we're used to. Each night, although very chilly out, we'd leave the windows open so that we could hear the tide coming in (or out?) early in the morning. The down comforter was plenty warm enough and the linens were nice and soft.

Thank you Clifton for a wonderful get away! We appreciate such professional service and your gracious little cottage. I'd like to be put on the list of people to contact if you ever decide to sell!

Many Blessings-

Jen R.

The Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle offer many beautiful drives and hikes. The Blue Hill Heritage Trust owns 1500 acres with many wonderful walks and hikes. Other preserves also provide excellent hiking. Isle au Haut, off Stonington, is the wilderness section of Acadia National Park and is access by mail boat from Stonington. An all day trip there is one of the highlights of the area.

The area is noted for its many artists, writers and musicians. Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill offers weekly string chamber concerts by top musicians from around the world. Haystack School of Art on Deer Isle attracts leading artists and craftsmen for their summer classes. The Blue Hill Public Library and other institutions often offer readings by many of the nation's top writers who often have a local base.

There is a lively local food movement, with many small farms, fishermen and food purveyors providing superb fresh and prepared food to the local markets, farmers markets and direct to individuals.

The Blue Hill Peninsula is blessed with a collection of beautiful villages and fine buildings. Blue Hill, Castine, Deer Isle and Stonington are all well worth a visit.

Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island is less than an hour's drive from the Cottage and well worth at least a day's visit. Bar Harbor offers the greatest variety of restaurants in the area.
