All in All We Loved It

We (four adults) stayed at Mar A Mar in late February, early March, 2013. The owner and the local hosts Soraya and Trent were all extremely helpful with any questions or assistance needed. (They even arranged RT taxi service at the airport in Tambor, made dinner reservations for us and arranged local taxi service!) The apartment is very, very nice. The description mentions that it is located on a hill but it does not mention that it is a very steep hill and possibly a difficult climb for some. The master suite is incredible, but it is unattached and an additional 49 steps up from the 2nd floor (also not mentioned). I would not recommend this property to the elderly or anyone with health issues (unless you have a good car that can make it up the hill (some local taxis could not) or if you rent an ATV approx $45 per day) for that reason only. On the "flip side" the property is far (and high) off the unpaved main road so there is little or no dust. The 2nd floor bedroom has the largest deck and is equipped with two lounge chairs. The (unattached and 49 step up) master suite is amazing! You can view the surf from your bed. Night star gazing from here is incredible. The beds are very comfortable. Consistent, great surf at the beach (either path) right out the gate. FYI the path to the beach to the right when facing the ocean (toward Cuesta Arribia, across from a surf school) is far cleaner and less traveled than the one to the left that is next to a local bar. The beach has trees for shade and also has little or no rocks so it is great for swimming. If you go south or north you'll find big rocks. On the property howler monkeys hang out in the trees up the hill about 1/8 mile in the early morning and then in the trees by the pool in the mid afternoon. We also saw large lizards, squirrels and lots of colorful birds. The view from the hike up the hill behind the apartment is great, wear sturdy shoes, go early and bring water. There are 2 grocery stores within walking distance (the one to the right when facing the ocean is closer) and many tasty restaurants. Most local people speak good English, and take US dollars, but don't plan to use your credit card, those that do accept cc's charge 16%, most restaurants do not accept cc's. All in all we LOVED it!
