Harwich - Harwichport Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This 'change house', one of the oldest in the area built more than 90 years ago to provide a freshwater swim after salt and sand, started with three simple rooms: a main room with a native stone fireplace and two changing rooms upstairs. It still has the original main room and the rustic stairs, so several additions and a recent renovation have created a modern and charming cottage. The main room is the living and dining area (a/c, table seats 10). Also on the first floor: master BR with private full bath; twin BR; full bathroom; large modern kitchen (granite counters, ice maker, microwave, china, glassware, cooking gear, washer/dryer nook); bright, sunny sun porch.

Second floor has queen BR & twin BR (both a/c), large full bathroom, DirecTV room with window seat, VCR, DVD, libraries. House is Wifi, also has fax.

Brick patio has teak furniture, is surrounded by roses, heather, ornamental bushes. Sidewalk runs past outdoor shower thru lawn to path under trees to pond with boardwalk to swimming float, near brick patio for picnics. Lawn for croquet game. Woods between both adjacent properties.

Sunfish sailboat, 2 kayaks, rowboat, diving float in deep water, and horseshoe pitch shared with property next door.

About Ted Borman

We rented this cottage in 1975, purchased it in 1992; enlarged, renovated, and updated it while spending summers here until we retired nearby five years ago. Our children learned to swim, sail, and catch frogs here, and now bring their friends here before and after the season. We can't wait for grandchildren! So we look forward to welcoming you, and wish for you as happy a time in the cottage as we had.

Ted Borman purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Ted Borman chose Harwich - Harwichport

We rented this cottage in 1975 and then again in 1991 because of family and friends in the neighborhood; after the 1991 rental, our children loved the cottage and swimming, we had wonderful family memories, and friends, authors and writers who borrowed it loved it, so we bought it. The friends who had visited it describe it as charming, lovely, quiet, private, unusual.

Movies, upscale shopping, musical theater, gourmet food and grocery stores, antiques, museums - ten to 30 minutes away.

What makes this cottage unique

Velvety, clear water; nearest neighbors swim 100 yards away and grandchildren are the voices to be heard. Lie on the private swim float at night: shooting stars are not uncommon and the sky is a million points of light. In the daytime, the cottage is invisible from the pond because of the white pines and hardwood trees we planted over the years. Sit on the patio, and there is nothing more private or quiet; we have to look hard to see another house.

Not to be missed

  • 5 of 5
We have rented this lovely house twice now and it comes highly recommended! We have three busy kids and a dog who love coming to this house. On fair weather days, the kids and dog love the water, the float, the kayaks, the tree house, the fire pit and the dock. On rainy days, there is plenty of room for everyone to find some privacy, with lots of great books and videos and board games/puzzles to explore. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with every gadget you might need and then some, and its lovely to relax at home for dinner after a full day at the beach or out exploring the Cape. The dinner table is nice and large and there is a grill for outdoor cooking. Having laundry makes the trip most enjoyable for Mom and makes packing easier for everyone! Harwich is a wonderfully quiet mid-Cape location. The off-leash dog park is walkable from the house and the National Seashore beaches are dog-friendly, on-leash. Downtown Harwich has a nice park with tennis courts and a playground and Dr. Cavity's candy store is NOT to be missed - grab a free toothbrush with your purchase :) Dogs are welcome at the Wellfleet Drive In, on the rail trail and at the Mariners game. Ted and Pam are lovely hosts and are right next door should there be any issues that need resolution. It has been our pleasure to rent this home.

Perfect Cape Cod Cottage

  • 5 of 5
My family of five stayed at this beautiful cottage for the week and we absolutely loved it! The cottage is well cared for, and had everything we were looking for....we especially enjoyed sitting down by the pond. My kids loved swimming and kayaking all over the pond. I would definitely recommend this adorable cottage to friends and family in the future. Ted was extremely friendly and great with communications. He always responded to our inquiries very quickly. This is definitely a place to consider for your next Cape Cod vacation...My family and I are lucky to have found such a great cottage to hang out and get away. We are looking forward to coming back to the cottage next year.

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and two other couples shared this place for a long weekend wedding. We had a blast. We had campfires at night with two different locations to choose from - one down by the lake and one by the house. We grilled on the nice gas grill. We kayaked the pond and carried the kayaks across the small beach to the other pond. We ate well at nearby establishments. We played music on the Bose stereo. We made food in the spacious kitchen. We body surfed in the ocean and saw seals. And we got a history lesson on the area and the house from the friendly owner Ted. Just don't ask him the difference between a bay and a sound. Thanks Ted! We had a ton of fun! Go Lions! Sorry I took so long to write this.

A Little Piece of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home recently and we immediately signed up for another stay next year. The house had all the amenities! The owner was friendly and helpful. The location was superb. The pond - breathtaking. We sailed, kayaked, and enjoyed smore's by the fire. We even hosted a dinner for 12. I would highly recommend this house for it's charm and location. I am not sure it gets better than this!

Very Nice Place and Location - Completely Ruined by Overly Concerned Owner and Rules / Advice

  • 2 of 5
The place was very nice, 8 of us were comfortable and there are enough areas to hang out, we were never in each others way. If you have tall folks, the doors and ceilings are a little low. Porch, patio and dock great.

The owner left us a couple of notes with rules and advice, he followed with a visit to reinforce the rules and welcome us. Same on the second day and to explain how bad the renters were the week before. Then he stopped by to explain the proper use of the ice maker, which broke the week before, something about the silver bar thingy needed to be up when you remove the tray and down when you need to make ice and the positions must be exact or all heck breaks loose. (which is what happened to the last renters). Also, he explained that men don't usually read his notes and he wanted to ensure the men in our party were well versed in the rules and advice, and to explain how to light a grill. The igniter on the gas grill was broken, you had to use a match... Imagine a match!!! A little voice did wonder why there were cans of lighter fluid on the patio??? Must be the last renters.

Then the wood speech 2x, what to burn and not to burn. We bought wood from the store. Issue avoided.

Then the sunfish use lecture, scared the kids completely, after one use it was beached. Kayaks were fun.

On Thursday night we had an unfortunate experience, the smoke detectors mysteriously went off, we called the owners at 9pm but he was in bed and couldn't be bothered, his wife explained that this happens and told us how to reset them. At 1am they went off again, we pulled the battery, only to have the units exclaim "beep low battery" all night. The next morning the owner arrived to go in the basement, not to see how things were after a rough night, he avoided us all am. Friday @ noon, we "ran into" the owners in their driveway and asked about the detectors, she explained that someone was coming by soon, YAHOO!! He said something inane, and acted offended that we mentioned we didn't sleep.

So to summarize, rent this place and enjoy... Avoid owner, If something happens the owner gets immediately defensive, which ruined a good week.

Update: 2 wks later he suggested he could charge us for the ice maker (which we never used, bought ice to avoid the issue), thank God it started working again. Must have been the silver thingy again not aligned, and we know what happens when that happens...

We did get the full deposit back. Thanks to her?!?

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
This cottage fitted our needs absolutely perfectly. We were 2 families with 4 children in total and we had such a happy couple of weeks. The lake surpassed expectations and we spent many happy days visiting a local beach and diving into the lake on our return. We had fun with the kayaks and inflatables especially. The cottage was comfortable and well-resourced. The local area was a perfect spot from which to explore the rest of Cape Cod. The owners were friendly and helpful. Very very highly recommended. Only for those with access to a car.
