Sunset Beach Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

Treehouse Studio / loft w/full bath sleeps 2-3

Welcome to our beautiful property overlooking world famous Sunset Beach, a crown jewel of the surfing universe. The tree houses are set up 80-100 steps, the Cabin is set up 50 steps and NOT for the feint of heart! We are 30+year residents and we love to share our local knowledge to make your stay truly amazing! These private tree houses are unlike anything else that we know of. Climb a stone path winding up through lush green foliage and black lava rock, past bamboo, organic fruit and flower trees to your treehouse illuminated by filtered sunlight through the tropical canopy. Fall asleep to the lullaby of waves and awaken to birdsong in the trees, and that amazing ocean view. Check the surf at Sunset and Kammie's from you private deck. Surfboards of all types (including Stand up Paddle boards), bicycles, and snorkel gear are here for your use. We do all forms of waveriding (surf, kite,windsurf,stand-up,big wave tow-ins) and have friends that give guided instruction in all if you are game!

The Temple is 400 sq.ft. of airy living space w/ lots of windows and an additional wrap around deck, featuring cedar ceilings, queen size bed on the upper level, shower, bathtub, and bathroom sink area, and kitchenette with all needed for meal prep. The unit is stand alone. The property also has another treehouse which is similar but a little smaller in size, and one other cabin. There is a large communal yoga deck next to the main house overlooking the ocean. Coded gate entry into estate, secure and private.

Surrounded by fruit trees and gardens all nurtured organically, this unique space is wonderfully peaceful and a stones throw from one of the best beaches on Oahu. Our guests are welcome to share in the bounty of our multiple mature fruit trees. Avocado, Mango, Papaya, Banana, Citrus and other exotic tropical fruit in season. Our Biodynmic/Permaculture Garden is a labor of love and our hens and us are doing our best work down there! If you have a green thumb or are wanting to learn how to grow your own the BEST! WAY, we love hands on!

We have had many guests tell us that this is one of the best places they have ever stayed... the place is just amazing! Ideal for the eco-friendly, nature loving traveler, this property has hosted many surfers, yogis, and those interested in a peaceful environment that is just a stones throw from the excitement of the world famous waves of the North Shore. Aloha and look forward to hearing from you!

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5
My girlfriend and I stayed here on our spring break in 2011 (actually a year before posted date) our senior year of college. We were looking for a place with surf and somewhere to get away from the crowds, and we hit the jackpot. The bungalow is set overlooking Sunset Beach with stunning views. When the waves are big enough (they were HUGE when we went), you can open the screen windows and hear them as you sleep. The caretakers of this property heightened our experience, making this place a gem. John, the owner, lives near the property and was s o humble. He set us up with a giant quiver of surfboards to choose from, and bikes for traveling and sightseeing. We were initially worried about getting around to restaurants and shopping areas, but "da bus" as they call it, is an excellent form of public transit, with a bus stop at the end of the street! This made traveling to Haleiwa a nightly staple for dinner. Dana and I still dream of this place. Thank you to John and the other staff on the property for making this a truly once in a lifetime experience (Although I hope we could experience it again one day!). I could not recommend this place any more highly! Thank you for all the great memories!

Paradise in Hawaii

  • 5 of 5
Loved it! The bungalow was everything we hoped it would be. The space is intimate and clean. The owner and everyone on the estate was friendly and helpful. Even Peter, the lab, made us feel welcome. There were bicycles and surfboards available for our use. The grounds are glorious. The beach is within walking distance and amenities are minutes away by car. We never wanted to leave!
We were there for a wedding at the nearby Turtle Bay resort and everyone who saw pictures of the bungalow was green with envy.
I would recommend this property to anyone looking for an intimate, authentic 'home away from home' in Hawaii.

Surf Cabin

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in the Surf Cabin for 10 days. It was perfectly idyllic. Tucked away up on the hillside amidst the tropical foliage, the cabin looks out over the turquoise water and golden sands of Sunset Beach. Birdsong awakened us each morning and the night music of crickets, geckos, and lizards trilling soothed us to sleep each night along with the rolling surf. It is quiet and secluded and absolutely conducive to the feeling of "getting away from it all".

If you are considering staying here I couldn't recommend it more. Do be aware that the walk up (which we found to be not a problem at all) would be challenging to anyone with mobility issues. The environment is lush and tropical so expect lots of critters - birds, bugs, lizards - to visit you. There is a cornucopia of fruit on the property though only the Suriname Cherries were ripe during our stay. Other times you can look forward to bananas, mangoes, papaya, lilikoi - there was even a lone pineapple soaking up the sun!

The amenities of the cabin were perfectly serviceable and with the mini-fridge, hot plate, french press and pans/utensils we found it easy to prepare most of our meals thus saving money on eating out. We did, however, make sure to enjoy the many shrimp trucks lining the beaches and a trip to Ted's Bakery for plate lunch is very highly encouraged - that place is onolicious! Fruits purchased from the fruit stands along Kam Hwy were fabulous. Foodland, just a quick trip down the highway, was our source for a lot of our groceries and supplies.

There are plenty of activities on the North Shore and we enjoyed the use of the beach cruisers to see the beaches and go snorkeling at Shark's Cove/Pupukea - the best snorkeling I've ever done! Even got to film some sea turtles at close range underwater! Watching sunset from the Pu'u o Mahuka Heiau was also very cool especially as a sudden rain shower caused the entire site to be framed in a perfect rainbow while we were there. Waimea Valley was a treat - particularly swimming in the plunge pool of the waterfall. And a hike out to Kaena point was well rewarded with the rare sighting of Albatross chicks (as big as a dog) and a monk seal sleeping in the tidepool shallows.

Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating (promptly replaced a broken french press) and happy to answer any questions and to make suggestions.

If you are considering a relaxing, private, tropical vacation filled with simplicity and serenity, this is it!

Fantastico!

  • 5 of 5
My friend and I came here for a week, and we had a truly magnificent time. The owners were very gracious, helpful with giving tips, and very generous with their space. We ate fruit from the trees on their property, woke up in the hills to an incredible view and experienced Hawaii from the local perspective. The bungalow was clean and tidy when we arrived, was very comfortable throughout our stay and we always felt very safe. You do need a car to travel around the island, however, because there isn't much public transportation. We felt like we were on some retro Beach Boys film set the entire time. It was magnificent.

So hard to leave!

  • 5 of 5
John's place is a tropical paradise, and he's an absolutely wonderful host. The bungalow is snug, clean, and well-kept, with all you need for a retreat from the world. There's a fridge, hot plate, coffee maker/espresso machine, toaster; sleeping loft and fold-out couch. The deck is huge and features comfy chaises for hanging around and watching the surf break -- and the sunset -- down at Sunset Beach. The grounds are lush and beautiful, and John is super-generous with the amazing fruits (papaya, lilikoi, avocado...) that grow there. You'll never have a better view from the shower, either! John makes bikes, surfboards, and Peter (a lovable Lab) available to those who want to experience more of the North Shore vibe. Yoga on the deck is another can't-miss part of the experience .... Wish I were there right now!
