Great option in Park Slope

  • 5 of 5
Mel's Park Slope apartment was great for me and my grandsons while in Park Slope visiting my son who lives just 3 blocks away. The location has great access to food, shopping, Prospect Park and subway (7th Ave). Staying in an older brownstone apartment in a residential area really made me feel like I live in Brooklyn...not a bland hotel experience. Mel is a gracious host. The apartment has most things you might need. No stove...but who wants to cook with so many great restaurants nearby. It was quite hot a couple of days of our stay but the AC kept us cool. Lovely garden off the back as described. I'd definitely book Mel's apartment upon a return visit to Park Slope.

One item of info: The single, foldout chair bed is really only adequate for a very small child.

Perfect Park Slope Home for 5 Days in May

  • 5 of 5
After an extensive and sometimes frustrating search for an apartment (not all apt. owners are on top of things the way Mel was) within walking distance of our daughter's place and the subway to Manhattan, I was very happy to find a private, quiet place for our group: my husband and I, our daughter-in-law, and our 22 month old granddaughter. We loved the homey-ness, the "real Brooklyn brownstone" and all the thoughtful appointments, including toys and books for our little one, who absolutely loved it there. We look forward to returning to our Brooklyn home-away-from-home! Thank you Mel + family.

Home from Home in Park Slope

  • 5 of 5
Thanks Mel! We live in the neighborhood and needed somewhere to stay quickly with our two boys and pet dog due to our own apartment emergency. Mel was there with this great garden two bed apartment and turned a nightmare into a vacation on our own doorstep! A well kept, cozy retreat with lots to entertain the whole family or to just relax and sit around the table for a meal. Kids made friends with the neighbors whilst exploring the garden, and had plenty of toys and games to discover in the house too. We were reminded of a country cottage, with quiet and relaxed feeling and plenty of charm in the decoration and appointments, and al in the heart of Park Slope! Mel was very welcoming and made our stay perfect. Highly recommended.

Great spot.

I booked this apartment for my parents while they came to visit me in Park Slope. The owner Mel was prompt in returning my emails and flexible when arranging to pick up the keys.
The apartment has a private entrance and was quiet, nicely decorated with a large kitchen/dining area and backyard for us to hang out in. It was quite warm in August but since this is the bottom floor, the apartment stayed cool, hardly needing AC although also a bit dark.
There was an issue with one of the bedroom windows on the second night. We left a note for Mel and by the end of the day it was fixed. She was easy to contact and prompt in replying.
Of note, the kitchen doesn't have stove so it's more of a kitchenette and the backyard is easily accessible but somewhat overgrown.

Overall, they were very happy with their stay and I would arrange for other friends/family to stay there. It is right off 7th ave and a short walk to subways, restaurants and bars but still relaxing on a traditional Park Slope street with brownstones, plenty of trees.

A Quant Place in Brooklyn

  • 5 of 5
My daughter and I treated ourselves to a New York weekend to celebrate her getting her college degree and our surviving the stress of an adult daughter and mother living together again to make it happen. We were on a very limited budget so Mel’s place really fit the bill. It was large and close to subway which made the commute into Manhattan easy and timely. The station we used was about three short blocks away. In case you didn’t know it, you can use Google to get subway times and routes the same way you would driving routes.

I absolutely loved that it was a brownstone, in a quiet neighborhood. If you like the antique/vintage feel, then you’ll love Mel’s apartment in the lower level of her house.

I stayed in the bedroom with the fireplace, a large ornate antique armoire and shutters on the windows. It had glass French doors that lead to the hallway and another door that lead to the kitchen. The bed was very comfortable and there were linens galore, extra blankets, and plenty of towels. In the cabinets between the bedroom and the kitchen were stacks of carryout/delivery menus for every taste, maps, books, games, an iron and even a hair dryer. Though the kitchen has no stove, there is a microwave, a small fridge, a sink and she had just added an electric fry pan. There was tea and coffee too. Since I didn’t plan on cooking, this was perfect; but it would work well even to put a quick meal together; the kind you make on vacations!

The other bedroom was just off the kitchen with windows that opened to a garden out back which, when weather permits, is accessible from the kitchen. Very quaint. The bathroom was the older and in great shape; it made me nostalgic for my childhood days.

And let’s not forget that just a block away are a variety of places to eat, the best of which I thought was La Bagel Delight. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s a great deli with a large variety of bagels and cream cheeses, sandwiches; and the New York Times. This was so convenient for morning coffee and bagels. Eat in or take it back to Mel’s place.

If you like neighborhood atmosphere that is makes you feel like you’re in a different era, and then Mel’s place is the best. It made me want to sell my house and move to Brooklyn!

Great Home Away From Home!!

  • 4 of 5
This was the perfect place for me to stay with my daughter while we were visiting my other daughter who lives in Park Slope. Mel is delightful and very accomodating. Besides being very close to the subway, the entire area is full of restaurants, near the park and just a lovely area. So I highly recommend this place.
