An arcaded porch with steel framed casement windows extends along the front of the house; a smaller porch of identical design is located at the back. The property is also equipped with first-class, luxury amenities such as Viking appliances, Central Heat & Air, Security System, High Speed Internet Access and Satellite.
Located three blocks from the popular entertainment district of South Congress Avenue (SoCo) and one block from Stacy Park, the Castle on the Hill is perfectly situated to meet all your needs! Please visit our Virtual Tour; the link is below.
The Castle on the Hill - behind the scenes: 'The John House,' or more commonly known by the local residents as 'The Castle on the Hill' was featured by the historic preservation committee for the Travis Heights Neighborhood Association for exemplifying the rich, historic architecture of South Austin.
The owner's residence is located in the historic stone cottage south of the main house. Owners are available to provide guests with suggestions on restaurant options, live music venues and much more! Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely historic house. The home was beautiful and being in walking distance to everything really made our stay convenience. We will definitely be back. I would have given the home 6 Stars if they had them.
The home and owners were absolutely wonderful and made our family reunion the best yet. Six of us stayed at the house, which was an easy 2-3 minute walk to South Congress Avenue. And my husband loved the park just down the street where he would go for his morning jogs. The neighborhood is quiet and has tons of trees, birds chirping...even a hoot owl that visited the property on a couple of occasions. In fact each house in the neighborhood seems to have its own style of landscape which is creatively eclectic...a true Austin experience. As for the house itself, it really is something to experience. The interior is even nicer than the photos, the bathrooms are huge and tastefully decorated, the beds extremely comfortable and the dining and living rooms grand. But when we left, the room I missed the most was the kitchen...ah, the kitchen. I never thought I'd have the chance to cook on a Viking stove and it was everything I'd hoped for.
The outings for the family reunion were mostly in SoCo. We hit up Vespaio which is a fantastic little Italian restaurant, the vintage candy shop, even did a little shopping. In fact we only got in our cars a few times to visit our extended family in Wimberly. The rest of the time we just walked.
I highly recommend this home. And Angela and Ian are wonderful and so very gracious. Thanks again for a great week.
Our group of 10 girls thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay! The house was spacious and upscale. The location was very convenient to soco, The property was clean and the amenities were even better than expected. The owner was easy to communicate with and very welcoming. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
Thank you for letting us stay at your home. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. What a perfect location on a tree lined street, only blocks away from the stores of SoCo. And we loved the windy little park next door. Thanks again!
We drove from Dallas to attend a meeting at the Convention Center. The home was close to everything -- even a park that was only a block away. The home itself is incredible. I've never seen anything like it. It's on this huge piece of property and is elevated from the road. The house is stone with great porches. The interior is really nicely done. Great details throughout. We'll definitely be back for our next stay in Austin.
South Congress Avenue, better known as SoCo, is the vibrant arts and entertainment district south of the river. Swing dance at the famous Continental Club or eat some of the best Mexian food in town at Guerros Taco Bar, its all just a stone's throw away from one of the most unique residences in all of Austin -- The Castle on the Hill. Walk one block in the other direction and enter Stacy Park, designed with a public spring fed lap pool on one side and children’s spring fed wading pool and playground on the other. Walking trails weave throughout and lead toward the famous Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail where you will find access to all the outdoor activities imaginable, including canoeing, sculling, kayaing, jogging, and mountain biking. Whether your search involves a raucus night of live music, an outdoor exploration of Austin or just a quiet evening on the veranda, the Castle on the Hill provides a tranquil retreat nestled in the heart of it all.
