Truly living like a local

Where do I start? We had the pleasure of staying at Mandy's place for just over 3 months. This is the perfect location for exploring true Manhattan life and living like a local. The Underground is almost at the front door for quick transport to the usual tourist sites of NYC. In the local area you'll restaurants (both fancy & hidden local gems),speakeasy bars, live comedy, Off Broadway theatre, live music, designer shopping all at your doorstep. Mandy is a wonderful hostess. We were in NYC when hurricane Sandy hit, and Mandy was in contact throughout.
The apartment is cosy warm, main bedroom is very large and 2nd bedroom is adequate and there is a pullout bed in the sofa. Kitchen provides all you heed for home cooking. Bathroom is compact but does include a bath. We had family from Australia visit during our stay and managed 6 adults and 1 baby during the Xmas period. This was the perfect place for our extended stay and would also be ideal for shorter visits.
For local casual dining try Epistrophy just down the street on Mott and Cafe Guittane; for something a little more upmarket try Balthazar or Freemans; for the best Cabaret venue I've ever been to try Joe's Pub on Lafayette (part of the Public Theatre complex); for tiny underground bar with amazing cocktails try 1534 Jacques on Prince St; for music try National Underground, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall or Terra Blues. All these places are within a 5 min walk!!
We plan to return to Manhattan for a summer stay sometime in the next couple of years and this will be our first pick if it is available. Fantastic value, great location, wonderful host. Thanks Mandy - we had a blast.
