GREAT FALL WEEKEND WITH BEAUTIFUL VIEWS

  • 5 of 5
We brought our daughter and grandchildren for a weekend of fall fun and really enjoyed the property. The views are spectacular and we all loved the "adventure" of the drive up to the house-especially fording the two creeks on the way. Even though there were bridges to cross the creeks, we all loved crossing the creeks in our Jeep. The house was beautiful and up to date with everything clean and in order. Our grandkids were thrilled to sleep in a bunk bed and were amazed at the huge log beams and how the house was built. My only suggestion would be to pack extra towels as we only had 2 washcloths and just enough towels to go around. I did also pack paper towels and toilet paper and was glad I did. We will definitely come back here again--great property and so close to Blowing Rock and Boone.

PERFECT PLACE FOR A FAMILY TO UNPLUG AND DECOMPRESS!

  • 5 of 5
This property is very well-maintained and VERY secluded, while easily accessible to downtown Blowing Rock. The view from the deck is truly a million dollar view, and our family loved the privacy--we didn't see another house from the property! On Saturday we walked down the mountain and then hiked back up for a great 4.5 mile adventure. If we didn't head to Kilwin's in Blowing Rock for ice cream, we wouldn't have had to leave this gorgeous property. We had several ping-pong tournaments and there was plenty of space for all six of us to sleep comfortably. I can't wait to return!!

AMAZING VIEW, VERY PRIVATE

  • 5 of 5
The other reviews are correct. This is a great house. Looks just like the pictures, Very well maintained and has an amazing view from the deck. Everything was in working order. Kitchen well equipped-- pasta pots and strainer, blender, coffee pot (no filters needed), pots, pans, utensils, cork screw, can opener, wine and champaign glasses. Only two things to note: First, other supplies were lacking. There was no bar soap, only miniature shampoo. Also, no paper towels, plastic wrap or foil. Also, there was not enough toilet paper for the weekend. This is not a big issue if you plan ahead, but that comes to my second point: The house is very secluded and hard to get to. We had planned to go into town for lunch both days but after the first time down the mountain decided to stay at the house the second day. As described, it's a haul to get to the house from the road. Better to just get there and plan to stay, but we had to go into town for the necessities that were missing. Also, there is no wifi and cell service is spotty. Verizon connected sometimes, ATT never connected. Also, I would not recommend heading up without an 4wd. We went up in Summer so snow was not a problem but even a mini SUV was over the weight limit for one of the bridges so we had to ford the stream (this is anticipated and there is a place for cars to cross, but you are still going through a stream). With all of the rain, was a bit concerning but made it fine. Would not have liked to try it in a 2wd. Would also have been nice to have a list of some nearby hiking trails. There were a copul eof paths next to the house but they may have been deer trails and since we didn't know where they ended up, we turned around before long. Please note the overall rating above. These points did not detract from our enjoyment and we plan to stay here again when we come back. Just thought others should know and plan ahead.

Owner's Response: Chris, thank you for the 5 star rating and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay and plan on a return visit in the future. Re supplies in the home, we will address that issue promptly with the cleaning service. You are right in that this location offers supreme privacy and gorgeous views at the end of a 2 mile gravel road. It is probable that the housekeeper arrived without the necessary supplies and had no time to go back to get them, and we are sorry if this inconvenienced you in any way. As far as the bridges over the 2 creeks, I routinely drive my large SUV (over 6000 lbs) over both bridges, and see others driving larger vehicles so will have to do some research as to what is posted on the bridges as far as weight limit. Your mini SUV should have been fine. Most of the people who have homes in this area have larger SUVs or trucks. As far as hiking trails, there are no dedicated trails but a pretty extensive unpaved road system that you are welcome to walk on and I am sure there are many deer trails throughout.

"MILLION DOLLAR VIEW" IS AN ACCURATE DESCRIPTION!!

"Million Dollar View" is an accurate description!!

This property is very secluded and has a fabulous view. It's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. I would definitely suggest you take a 4WD vehicle to get there. I drove a front wheel drive and had some real problems. Once you get to the top, however, you'll be glad you made the effort! I would suggest to the owners that you do something different with the televisions. There are 3 TV's but all three have to watch the same thing! Everything else was wonderful!!

Owner's Response: Sandra, yes, the view from this lovely home is breathtaking and a truly private natural setting, and yes, the private gravel roads, while maintained regularly, can be a challenge without 4 wheel drive. Road conditions can change from one rainstorm and while some might have good access with only a front while drive, the next person might have problems. We did discuss this when you booked and you told me you were bringing a four wheel drive so based on your experience, we are not going to book guests unless they promise to come in four wheel drive vehicles. Thanks for the input re the TV's--we will see what can be done. . .

THE VIEW IS WONDERFUL, LOVELY PICTURE WINDOW

  • 4 of 5
We have stayed in a few different cabins in the area. It is definitely quiet but to achieve that serene setting you must drive 10 mins on a gravel road. That grows a little tiresome after a week. In addition it's another 8 mins on a minor road (pretty country road) to get to 321. By the time you get to main street BR it's 25-30 mins. The cabin does have a great view looking up towards Aho and Bamboo Gap on the BRP. We did find it seemed to be lacking a few general items you expect with a luxury rental cabin. Only 3 wine glasses - isn't that a crime ;-) toilet rolls (were in short supply), not exactly the best cleaning job prior upon arrival, and probably most important was the fact that there were only 3 outside chairs. It also doesn't have an outside table (although the deck is a little tight for that), but we like to have breakfast outside on the deck. Decor was cute (bears) in places and a little out of synch in other areas. Lovely sitting room facing the view. Kids loved the table tennis. Had another great week in the NC Mountains!

VERY NICE PLACE, STAY WAS FROM MAY 27TH - 30TH, 2011

  • 4 of 5
Definitely out in the woods. Nothing around except trees, birds and moths. About 7 miles from highway 321. Asphalt about half the way, then gravel/sand roads the rest. Some pretty steep hills on the gravel. Mostly enough for one vehicle at a time. Occasional spots widen up for others to pass. Cabin has lots of room, we had 5 in our party and room for more. Cabin had all the items to cook with, pots, pans, plastic storage containers, utensils, coffee maker, blender, toaster. Used the AC, nice and cool on the first floor, but a little warm upstairs. Daytime temperatures were 65-85. Dishwasher had issues, not fastened to the cabinet, so it would tip out when the door and drawers were opened. Place is on well water and we had plenty for showers, baths and washing dishes. Satellite TV was only available about 1/2 the time, low or no reception on some channels. Gravel road did have some gullies/wash-out places. You need a vehicle with good road clearance, maybe 8 inches at least, 4 wheel drive not necessary.

Owner's Response: Yes, this location is one of the most private, but you do have 2 miles of privately maintained gravel road after you cross the creek, and it takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Blowing Rock. Home is best suited for those who wish to truly get away from it all and want a retreat type setting. We will check regarding the dishwasher but sounds like you enjoyed your stay and please come back soon!
