It's such a pleasure to deal with the owner of this apartment, Katherine and her agents. They were kind, honest, professional and prompt. The apartment itself is beautiful, clean, roomy, and centrally located in the historic part of town. The bathrooms and kitchen are modern and updated. And the laundry has both washer and dryer (not common in Europe). It's truly a gem. Thank you Katherine, for your hospitality.
My friends and I enjoyed this luxury apartment immensely. It was worth all the $$ and even the 96 steps (including the landings) up and down were well worth it. The surrounding environment, including the two restaurants below us, was exactly what I dreamed of. The authentic antique furniture, even a Napoleonic mirror!, flowered balconies, the up-do-date appliances were unexpected, but much appreciated. We did need help from time to time and it was provided by a wonderful young gentleman who did all he could to make our stay comfortable. I didn't really expect to like France all that much, having heard many negative stories, but I came away with a deep love for the people we met, the many kindnesses shown us and its incredible history and beauty. Finally, I send my deep appreciation of the exquisite remodeling and the interior decor. It gladdened the soul as well as delighted the eyes. Thank you so much.
This rental has it all! Charm, location, clean, spacious, wonderfully updated. The kitchen and baths were beautifully updated, and the baths were the largest I have ever experienced in europe! I can't say enough about our stay. It was beyond expectations. Close to restaurants, shops, tram and train. Wonderful location for exploring the south of France. We were welcomed by Monique who generously stocked us with coffee, bread, butter and jam, so appreciated after a long flight and drive. Owners left many restaurants and shops in the area, and our best meal was at Bistrot td'Alco, one of their recommendations. If you are looking to enjoy the French lifestyle, this is the place for you. Shop at the halles, or markets, take a stroll for croissants in the morning, wonderful day trips await, Nime, Avignon, the beach. I would definitely recommend this lovely apartment to friends and relatives. The only downside was we only had a week.
This apartment is a very special find, restored to a very high standard and superbly placed to enjoy all that the city of Montpellier offers. It has tons of lovely antique features and furniture but the facilities are nothing but modern and well equipped, you feel like you are in a beautiful French atmosphere with all the mod cons. Everything is spotlessly clean, well stocked and very well maintained. There was hamper waiting for us on our late arrival which was very welcome and gave us a good breakfast until we had chance to get to the shops. Within a three minute walk there is a bakery, wine shop and cheese deli, possibly the best in Montpellier plus a 'corner shop' and lots of other shopping. There is a great little restaurant tucked away just opposite the front door of the building and to the right but as with all great cities there is lots of choice. We certainly recommend and will hopefully revisit the apartment again soon.
My husband and I spent four days in this apartment in the center of Montpellier last fall during our trip to France. The renovation of the apartment is amazing--we saw photos of the "before" and "after." The plaster detail, color choice, chandeliers, flooring, and antique furnishings all contributed to the feeling that we had stepped back to an earlier and more elegant time period. On the other hand, the up-to-date bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances are a clear reminder of how convenient modern living can be.
The ceilings are high, beds are extra long, mattresses and linens are luxurious, towels are plush, and the kitchen is fully equiped for cooking. We were happy to see that the apartment had both a washer and a dryer.
The neighborhood is full of interesting shops and good restaurants. We went around the corner every morning to purchase warm croissants at a local bakery (one of several), then ate them at the cafe at the ground floor of our building. We tried three area restaurants recommended by the apartment owners, two of which were within a few blocks of the apartment, and loved all of them. We are now big fans of duck confit. There is a Michelin-rated restaurant in a local hotel that offers a tasting menu (including local wines) for under 100 euros. It is supposed to be three courses, but other small courses appeared in between the original three. Our meal lasted for several hours. We will definitely go back--both to that restaurant, and to this lovely apartment in beautiful Montpellier.
Note that there is no elevator in the apartment building, and the high ceilings translate to a couple of long flights of stairs. The walk up is a good way to work off all those croissants!
Montpellier is a vibrant city with beautiful 18c architecture, and one of the biggest open squares in Europe. There are many cultural events and activities including an annual guitar festival, Museums, two opera houses, gardens and monuments to explore, ballet and classical music as well as a nearby zoo and aquarium. Sunny Montpellier is 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea and many wonderful beaches. The apartment is located in the pedestrian only part of the city where theaters, restaurants and cafes are a short walk away.
