Plum Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedroom Suites, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 4.25 Baths, (Sleeps 14 -17)

This house has been my family's primary residence for 21 years. It is a dream come true to live on the ocean in a community rich with maritime and American history. I have always loved to share my home with family and friends and now want to share it on a rental basis for part of the year with families who will enjoy it and treat it like their own home.

I bought the original cottage which was located in front (ocean side) of this house and helped build this house while living in the cottage. The house underwent an extensive addition which dramatically changed it's appearance. Since the house is built into the primary dune, the main entrance and driveway is at basement level. Since I literally want to spend the rest of my days in the this house, I installed an elevator during the renovation to make that possible even if wheelchair bound. When I broke my ankle in April 2012, I appreciated immediately the obstacles this house might have presented to the handicapped. I used a wheel chair to do laundry, empty the dishwasher etc and truly was so thankful the elevator had been installed. I'm happy to extend all the joys you'll find in this house for those with extra needs.

Upon arrival, I will personally give everyone a kk30-45 minute tour of the house and show you how everything works (ie. elevator, German tilt/turn windows, A/C systems, fully automatic generator back up system, hot tub etc) and answer any questions you may have. I will be available by phone and in person if necessary during your stay and have technical support on call if any maintenance issues arise during your stay.

The surrounding area of Boston, North Shore, Portsmouth NH and all of northern NE for that matter are at your disposal while you stay at the house. Boston is 45 minutes away. Make the most of your vacation and enjoy! Enjoy what people love about Martha's Vineyard with less crowds, at a much better value, with much easier access.

Keywords: oceanfront, contemporary, stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, a gourmet party kitchen, private walkway/stairs to the beach, three decks with 360 degree views, a six person hot tub, an elevator with handicapped access to all floors. sunset deck, ocean deck, sundeck, views of the ocean, the Great Marsh, Newburyport harbor, Cape Ann and all points north, all amenities within walking distance. Martha's Vineyard, without the hassle and a much better value.

About David Willilamson

I'm 59 years old and have worked in the high tech industry for 25 years and have now quasi-retired to manage real estate holdings. I have a 17 year old daughter and a 19 year old son. Besides enjoying my kids' sporting events, I love to fish, boat, sail, swim in the ocean, body surf etc. The ocean itself is ever changing and every day it presents something different to enjoy and marvel at and makes you feel happy to be alive.

David Willilamson purchased this house in 1991

Why David Willilamson chose Plum Island

It's always been a dream to live right on the ocean. The area offers great Striper fishing, an historic seaport town in all its original brick facades. Newburyport was one of the most productive ports in early Colonial history. The house is within a short drive of Boston, Portsmouth, Kittery ME etc. Enjoy all the history and sights of Boston, the outlet shopping in Kittery, ME and history and sights of Portsmouth, NH.

What makes this house unique

Fall asleep to the sounds of the waves hitting the shore or jetty in front of the house. Sit on the ocean deck and enjoy the boat traffic or people watch those on the beach. Enjoy the sun rise over the ocean from three of the five bedrooms. Bake in the sun on our Sun Deck which catches rays all day long. Watch the sunset from two of the five bedrooms. Enjoy the sunset with a cocktail as well as a panoramic view of downtown Newburyport, NH, Maine and the ocean from our Sunset Deck. Watch a movie with the extended family on a choice of 70' or 55' large screen TVs or play cards or board games at the dining room table with the ocean as your back drop. Play a game of corn hole on the deck if you're water logged from too much body surfing or swimming in the ocean. Make sand castles galore or relax the muscles in the 8 person hot tub. Need I say more?

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Dave:

Thank you for opening your home to us. Growing up spending summer months on Lewis Bay on the Cape was something I will never forget. Allowing my family the opportunity to know what my childhood was like is very special. The house is a home! Our family, extended family and friends all enjoyed our time here.

Walks on the beach, an occassional fish off the rocks and quick rides to Newburyport all made our stay amazing. The view from the the deck is neverending and the sunsets can't be beat.

Thank you again for allowing my family to experience this house - your home.

Beautiful home with a stunning view

  • 5 of 5

I had several friends and family come stay in this home for two nights and everyone was blown away by the view and elegance of the home. You can hear the waves while laying in bed at night, and just a short drive into Newburyport downtown for lots of great shops and restaurants. Everyone had their own comfortable beds and everything they needed for the stay.

Property was professionally cleaned before we arrived and there were ample clean towels and extra pillows and bed linens (along with extra toiletries if needed).

The views and property are even more amazing in person than in the photos.

I would absolutely invite everyone back to do this again.

Dave, the home owner, was very helpful and accommodating before and during our stay.

Highly recommend this place!!

A perfect beach week

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this property and the owner who opened his home to us and made it our home for a week. We celebrated our son's wedding in July and were looking for a vacation place to hold our extended family for an opportunistic vacation. The minute we toured the place the previous winter, we knew that we not only had a great vacation spot but had also solved our problem of where to hold the rehearsal dinner. The deck would easily hold our large dinner party of up to 50 people and could even manage that many inside in case of rain.

The days preceding the hectic weekend were blissful. The grandkids played on the playset, the beach, and in the hot tub. The adults, young and not-so-young, relaxed or played on one of the three decks, on the beach or in the ever-popular hot tub. The beverage fridge drawers next to the deck got quite a workout! When it got hot, it was easy to cool off by either walking down to the ocean - a bit steep and rough for the little kiddies, so be aware of this if you're looking for tot-friendly beachfront - or into the house for an air-conditioned view over the beach (or a nap). With a convenience and package store across the street, you don't have to go anywhere. And we didn't except for a few adventurers who went kayaking/birding in the marshes and another few intrepid explorers who had fun in the shops of Newburyport, about five minutes away.

The owner stays about five minutes away and is available to help in large or small emergencies, whether it's trying to figure out his custom lighting or sound systems, a backed up bathtub, or an oven failure. There are detailed printed instructions to ward off the small emergencies, but he was out the next morning after the oven failure with a brand new high-end oven. (We postponed its installation until after we left because the remaining full-size oven in the gourmet kitchen was more than enough to get us through the week.) All in all, the personal attention was a wonderful thing - it made us feel like welcome guests and it made us act like conscientious guests who wanted to help keep this amazing house in good condition.

When the relaxing was over, the house became a fantastic party site. We hosted increasing numbers of visiting family and friends as the wedding grew near, and the rehearsal dinner could not have been lovelier. (Catered by Creative Catering in Beverly, who did a great job.)

Our only problem now is that everyone wants to make this an annual event!

Beautiful Home, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We recently had a family vacation here and I must say, the owner thought of everything. We had a full house, but because of the open concept of the home we never felt cramped or like we were bumping into each other. The location was perfect for trips to Boston, Cape Cod, and the Seacoast area. There are also two restaurants, a variety store, bait shop and liquor store within walking distance. Also, downtown Newburyport is a short ride by car or taxi and was a favorite spot for the out-of-towners for shopping, eating and whale watching. You can be as busy as you'd like, or just enjoy the beautiful spot on the ocean. The home is great for entertaining a crowd, with everything from double ovens to multiple fridges. Also, the elevator is wonderful for anyone elderly/handicapped. Highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to write a review. I was so glad that Sharon was able to bring all the members of your family here to experience New England like she did growing up! Great timing that Newburyport's Yankee Homecoming Festival was occuring the week your were here. You have a great family - it was so nice to meet everybody. Everyone was going here and going there, but everyone had a huge smile on their face!! Sorry I missed saying goodbye since you all left so early that Sunday! Best wishes to all of your family! BTW - Surfland Bait and Tackle Shop is flying their flag at half-mast upon your departure - they never saw such a spike in t-shirt sales the week you were here!!!

Simply the best

  • 5 of 5

What can I say that the other reviews haven't already? We rented houses in various other locations around New England and have never encountered a nicer, more accommodating, and just all around great person as the renter. We were the first renters of this season and he clearly busted his arse to get everything ready. To top it off he also moved the grill for us and picked up our substantial load of trash and recycling.

This house was our base of operations for our wedding, and even though the (bad) weather dictated several last-minute changes to our plans, being in this house somehow made everything alright.

Some highlights:

- HUGE deck! When weather allowed we played cornhole right on the deck, overlooking the ocean.

- HUGE grill!

- HUGE hottub. Relaxing at the end of the long day.

- HUGE kitchen! Friends and fam more than once cooked for a group of 20+

- HUGE tv. We brought our AppleTV and streamed pics and videos from the weekend for all to see.

A huge house all around, with private enough rooms to get away from it all, but large enough common areas to not feel crowded when everyone is gathered together. And it is walking distance to eateries (Plum Island Grille, Beachcoma, Mad Marthas) as well as the liquor store, Dick's Variety, and PITA Hall (where we held our wedding!).

We cannot say enough great things about this house or speak highly enough of its owner.

Stay here if you can, you will not regret it.

The perfect house for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

I hosted a mother's weekend here and it was simply amazing. Dave was so welcoming and made every step of the process very easy. The house is gorgeous, there were 15 mom's and there was tons of space for us all. In the past we've rented hotel rooms for our annual weekend but decided to try a house for a more intimate experience. It couldn't have been any better. We will absolutely be going back and we are all recommending it to the many friends and family who were just in awe of the pictures we shared from the trip.
