Just returned from a spectacular stay at Hiltop Hacienda on Vieques Island. We rented both units for 1 week (8 people) and the upstairs unit only for 1 additional week (3-5 people). The home provided everything we could hope for with comfortable beds and high end linens. There were plenty of bath and beach towels for all. The kitchens were well equipped with dishes, glassware, pans and utensils and a great gas grill outside. There are 5 beach chairs and 2 coolers for the beach. Everything was clean and well cared for. There are breathtaking panaramic views of the ocean from the lovely porch and you can lie in bed and hear the crash of the waves. The home is located in a neighborhood so there is a bit of street noise, but it did not bother us one bit. The neighbors are very friendly. Rick and Heidi were extremely friendly as well and super helpful. We rented jeeps and explored many of the islands prestine beaches. They were all very beautiful and never crowded. We also did lots of snorkeling right from the shore. There is lots to see! Plan on bringing your own gear or you can rent or buy gear in town at Blackbeard's reasonably. We cooked most meals in and we were able to find everything we needed at the local grocery stores. Though I recommend buying bread at the bakery and produce at the farmer's market. We also bought fresh fish from the fish pier. You go past the ferry terminal, through the gate all the way to Pescadoria Angelyz. It's best to go between 11:30 and 12:30. The have lobster, conch and fish. We did eat lunch several times from Sol Food which is a food truck at the entrance to the Beaches at Camp Garcia (open fri, sat and sun 11-1:30). The food was seriously great. I would also recommend a visit to Esparanza. We had yummy pina coladas at Trade Winds and a nice dinner at Bili. A nighttime kayak trip to the bioluminescient bay is also a must. We went with ABE's and had a blast. You will get wet. One in our group did a fishing charter with Amity and caught a red snapper for dinner! Two of our group did a dive with Blackbeard's and had a blast. I could go on and on. We really had a super time. I would highly recommend Hilltop Hacienda for your stay on Vieques!!! Another recommendation is to fly to the island from San Juan if you can. We took a taxi to Fajardo and then the ferry. It was fine but the ferry is often late and the seas were a bit rough. Next time we will fly to save time and a bit of aggravation. Can't wait to go back!!!
