This mountain house is a great gathering place for families and close friends, plenty of bedroom space and large common areas. The large common room includes a fireplace, small electronic organ, a game table, and a television with both DVD and VHS player. The separate dining room has a table that seats a dozen comfortably. There is a covered porch on the front, with a basketball court and fire pit in the back.
In Montreat, summers bring mild days and cool night breezes. Autumn brings dramatic scenes of changing leaves. Winter brings clear mountain views. Spring brings wildflowers and green bursts of foliage.
Montreat is convenient to all that takes place at the Presbyterian Conference Center as well as the Baptist Conference Center at Ridge Crest. Black Mountain is a charming town, with mountain craft stores and restaurants. Asheville, a delightful mountain city with shopping and restaurants is only 20 minutes away.
In nearby Asheville, you can find the magnificent Biltmore Estate and the Grove Park Inn and Resort. Lake Lure is 25 minutes away. Enjoy rafting on either the French Broad or the Nantahala. Snow skiing is available, 45 minutes away. Within 60 minutes, you can reach the summit of Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain on the East Coast. Be in historic Cherokee in an hour. And for short and long hikes, one needs simply to walk out the door and there is access to multiple mountain trails.
This home is very well equipped. Exactly as advertised. A wonderful combination of modern and cozy cottage. Plenty of living space. Great location making walking to conference events possible, but away from business of meetings. Our school age grandchildren loved the treasures - books and games - they found to play with and the freedom of the yard and street and stream. All our family really enjoyed it and will return. We took advantage of the mountain trails nearby and the wonderful play park and ball field available near the conference center. A truly memorable weekend. Many thanks to the family for sharing their beautiful home. Nobody wanted to leave!!
Loved this charming home (photos don't do it justice! ). We had four couples and several children, and we had plenty of space! I will undoubtedly return to this wonderful home for another stay!
Surprise birthday weekend for my 80 years old (going on 50) father with 4 generations of family. The house was perfect. Large living spaces, great working kitchen for lots of cooks and more than enough beds. The yard was great. And the house was very clean. Trying to find an excuse for another outing.
I knew that I wanted to share my love of Montreat with my family, friends, and future in-laws as I was planning a women's weekend leading up to my wedding. This home was such a perfect space for us to visit, dine, and enjoy our time together.
The three levels of bedrooms allowed us to spread out without crowding one another, and we liked having the bedroom on the main floor for anyone who needed to avoid stairs.
We are a group that seems to always end up in the kitchen, and the spacious layout was great for that - as was the dining and living area for our other times of day. The weather was a bit on the cold side so we didn't spend time in the spacious backyard or porch - but both looked so inviting!! Overall, the home met the photos of the listing and was very well taken care of. The instructions were clear and helpful. The owner was also helpful leading up to our stay in helping us with finding a nearby dinner location in Black Mountain.
Anyone looking to house a larger group in the beautiful part of the world that is Montreat should feel confident in choosing this home.
Growing up, our family visited Montreat often; and as I thought about the location for a girl's/bachelorette weekend before my upcoming wedding, the Asheville area seemed a perfect fit. This was a cross-generational weekend and the house was the perfect setting for this important time of having family & friends stay in this gem of a house.
We loved having the space of all three levels, including the bedroom on the first floor for anyone who appreciates not having to climb stairs. The different bedding arrangements were easy for our group to understand and the large living area and kitchen were perfect for our late night talks and meals as a group. The property was clean, well-maintained and we are so happy to have spent the weekend here.
The owners were very helpful in providing some suggestions of dinner places leading up to our trip, as well. This house is perfect for anyone looking to retreat to Montreat, but also be nearby Black Mountain and, of course, all that Asheville has to offer.
The house is spacious and it and the property were very clean. However, there were several items in the kitchen cabinets/refrigerator (i.e. salad dressing) that were questionable as to length of shelf time and/or expiration date. The note board in the dining room with take out menus is a good idea although we didn't use it since we prepared most of our meals. The list of do's and don'ts on the refrigerator was extremely helpful. Recycling is important to us and we were happy to recycle the plastic, glass and cans. But we didn't see any mention of paper or cardboard recepticles. It would have been helpful to me to know if the house was serviced by on-site water and septic or public water and sewer, when the water was tested last and the test results.
We eventually found the switch for the garbage disposal but a note would be helpful as the note about the spray attachment for the sink was helpful.
All in all the accommodations were great.
