Our holiday home is situated in the countryside on a dike next to the picturesque river “Het Gein”. A typical Dutch surrounding where you can bike, walk, horse ride or canoe. In the summertime you can swim in the river Het Gein. Nearby are also two golf courses, De Hoge Dijk (18 holes) and Old Course Loenen (9 holes), and there is plenty of water recreation possible on the various waters in our area: Gaasperplas, Loosdrechtse Plassen and Vinkeveense Plassen.

Amsterdam is also nearby: with a bike it takes you 5 minutes to subway station Gein, which takes you in 20 minutes to the city of Amsterdam. With a car you can drive in 5 minutes to the P+R subway station of Gaasperplas, or in 15 minutes to the center of Amsterdam.

In the summerhouse of our farm, which was built in 1865, and situated just 200m from the city border of Amsterdam you will find your holiday home. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms each with an individual bath room, there is a living and a large kitchen with dining table. The folding doors brings you to the big private garden which gives you a panoramic view to the surrounding pastures with grazing sheep and cows. On the second floor you will find a very spacious loft-like sitting area and large dining table with fire place. There is also a tv with dvd player.

The house has a rich history: until the 60’s the summerhouse was a cattle shed with hay-loft and the farm was leased by various farmers families. Further the land was sold by the Amsterdam municipality to the famous Dutch sculptor Nel van Lith. On the old hay-loft she gave sculptor lessons to our Queen Beatrix (then Princess). From 1995 a garden architect lived here and she designed the English/French garden that is still intact today. Since May 2010 'Het Gein' is situated in the summerhouse.

What a GREAT house!

This house has all of the amenities one needs and a location that is a perfect base for touring throughout Holland. The interior space of this house is spacious and provides plenty of space for gathering; and, with both upstairs and downstairs common areas one can also gain some privacy and quiet spaces for reading. Close to Abcoude, which is a lovely village, with a great choice of restaurants, two groceries, and a train station for easy access to Amsterdam. This house has easy parking and is in a lovely area to take walks along the canal that is across the road in front of the property. It was a difficult choice on some of the 8 days we spent here as to whether to stay "home" or visit another attraction in Holland!
Stephanie is delightful...very helpful and made the reservation process from the U.S. extremely easy to manage. She keeps this house immaculate.

Het Gein, voor ons een genieten in het hart van Nederland.
Alles binnen 1 uur om de hoek en onder de rook van Amsterdam.
Een dag genieten van musea in Amsterdam, kopje koffie aan de Singel en 's avonds weer genieten van het Nederlandsche platteland. De trein en metro om de hoek. En met de fiets in 5 minuten in Abcoude voor een eventuele boodschap. We kennen 'het Gein' nu in elk jaargetijde. In de winter guurt de wind om de woning en kun je heerlijk genieten van de openhaard. In het voorjaar en najaar kun je uit de wind lekker buiten zitten. De zomer is iets speciaals, een lekkere wandeling langs het water of met een glas wijn langs de Gein.
Een heerlijk eenvoudige functionele keuken, een lekkere boerentafel voor een goed ontbijtgesprek.
'Het Gein' is een aanrader en voor ons een tijdelijk echt thuis.

Beautiful House

We really enjoyed the house; having a separate living room upstairs was a plus. Easy access to metro/train into Amsterdam. We found your description of the property and its amenities to be accurate, it was clean upon arrival and you and your husband were very helpful. We would definitely recommend the property to anyone wanting an extended stay in a rural setting. the one-lane road was a bit of a challenge, but no one ended up in the river, so all's well.

Het Gein - wonderful rural setting near Amsterdam

We absolutely loved this great house and gardens. We traveled with my sister and her husband with the intention of seeing areas in and close to Amsterdam. We chose this location because we could keep our car with us. We did not expect to find such a spacious, well equipped house (great value); great hosts Stephanie and Raymond; friendly pets - cat and dog (Pukie - if spelled correctly); and an idyllic neighborhood with artist living down the road next door. We took more photos of this setting than any other in our trip. We definitely hope to come back and have recommended this space to everyone we see!

Beautiful retreat 15 minutes from Amsterdam

This is a farm invironment 15 minutes from Amsterdam and 2 hours from another country. We loved the calm , classic style in decorating with all you need. The litchen with its big wooden table in the centre made cooking on vacation a family affair. The garden is truly magical with all its ponds, dykes, flowers and toads. In the distance you see cows and down the road are sheep and horses. The owners were more than helpful and we felt right at home. We loved this haven and would certainly return.
