|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
If you’ve ever been to Kauai, you’ll know that it's one of the most lush places on earth. Maybe that’s why they decided to film Jurassic Park there… The thick vegetation is so primitive you feel like a tyrannosaurus rex could pop out at any given moment. Dinosaur references aside, Kauai is a beautiful Hawaiian island that managed to preserve that small-town “deserted island” feeling that so many seek when they want to escape reality for a while. Whether that means a week, 2 weeks, several months or years, it’s a place like no other.
This 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom condo sits in Kauai’s northern Hanalei Bay. You probably already knew that it has exceptional views (let’s be real – there is no bad view in Kauai). The unit has a perfect view of the ocean and there’s a private lanai off the living room and each bedroom. These lanais are perfect for sunning, feeling that endless ocean breeze, or having a contest to see who can throw fruit the farthest into the jungle. The condo comes equipped with laundry facilities, so if you accidentally get juice all over you while attempting to whack a coconut open with the mediocre-quality machete you just purchased, no big deal! Another perk about this unit – It has air conditioning, which is actually an extremely rare luxury on Kauai. There’s a full kitchen too, for those nights you’d like to stay home and try cooking your own mahi mahi fish tacos.
As for activities to do in Kauai, the possibilities are truly endless… The beaches are absolutely exceptional (although avoid the Kapa’a beach; it’s windy) and the hiking is world-class. If you’re up for a real challenge, try the Kalalau Trail on the Napali Coast… You’ll feel like you are following the footsteps of the native Hawaiians. However you choose to spend your time in Kauai, you will be so thankful that you got to experience the splendor of such a unique island.

My family stayed in this condo for a week in January 2013 and we were disappointed. While the units have great balcony views and are close to the beach trail, the lack of utensils, poor quality of cookware, old televisions and appliances and dusty bedspreads made for a disappointing stay.
The filthy cookware should have been discarded a long time ago and we counted four random spoons in a condo that's supposed to sleep 10. The TVs, refrigerator and washer/dryer are dated but functional. There is no wireless Internet option in the condo so cell phones and tablets must be used closer to the pool to take advantage of the resort's free wifi. The air conditioners in two of the units had broken remotes (could not read the LCD) and otherwise did not perform well in keeping the units cool. The toilet in the main condo overflowed and another one barely flushed at all -- which is probably why a plunger sat next to it.
The Hanalei Bay Resort is nice in and of itself, offering beach towels, a nice swimming pool, "Mai Tai Mondays," and golf cart transportation, but I strongly recommend considering another unit, especially considering how much these units rent for. Expect to get inundated with fees and costly options, too: check-in fee, resort fee, local management fee, optional wired Internet fee, optional travel insurance, cleaning fee, optional accidental rental insurance, etc.
The "starter kit" of toilet paper, paper towels and laundry/dish soap was appreciated, but expect a dated interior with sub-par necessities at an otherwise good location with a great view.
Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (US Dollar) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.
