Observant visitors may spot deer, elk, beaver, hawks, eagles, heron, bobcat, martin, or even moose while exploring this large property. It's not unusual for accomplished anglers to catch and release 30 brown trout per day on the ranch during summer.
The cabin has a loft with one king and 2 twin beds. They are dressed in luxurious Ralph Lauren linens to appeal to the most discerning guests. The living room houses a massive sofa pit that sleeps 2 very comfortably. If you'd like to bring an RV and spread out further, there are complete facilities for those. Feel at home in the full kitchen equipped with most of what you need to prepare your favorite home-cooked meals.

Owner / Property Manager purchased this cabin in 1989
This place was great!! 30 minute drive from breckenridge and the views were gorgeous. If it has snowed you will definately need a 4wheel drive to get down to the cabin. We saw plenty of elk and other wildlife.
This property is excellent for anyone wanting to get away from the city and spend some time unwinding. My husband and I (and our beagle) spent a week there at Christmas. We saw so many stars at night because there is no light pollution. We saw elk every day on the property. We saw coyotes a few times, and we heard a moose, but never saw him! the views around the cabin and from the windows are incredible. We went in the winter and got some snow, but not so much that we were snowed in, although I can see that happening! I am sure summer would be equally enjoyable as well. There is plenty of room on the property to walk/hike/explore, but there are also numerous trails of Pike Natural Forest very close by.
There is a grocery store in town that has everything you will need to cook meals, but try not to forget anything else you need, as there is nothing in the way of a Target or Costco or anything nearby, only a Family Dollar. There are a few restaurants in town, but we cooked at the cabin for all our meals. If you want night life and entertainment, this is not your place, but if you want seclusion and relaxation, this is it!
The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is plenty large to make and serve meals, they have a few staples in the kitchen (salt, pepper, paper towels, pots and pans, coffee maker, most utensils you would need), but you will have to bring pretty much everything else in they way of food. The water had a strange taste to me, so I would suggest bringing bottled water as well. Oh, and internet access was VERY slow, so if that is crucial, you might want to check with the owners ahead of time to find out if that is normal or if we just happened to be there at a bad time. We weren't able to do anything more than check and send e-mail, as it is too slow to draw web pages.
There is a full bathroom with tub/shower combo and a very small vanity. If you like to take baths, it is not an ideal setup since it is a shallow tub, but other than that, very functional.
Very nice that they allow you to bring your dog, as our "city dog" had a great time here too!
If you have a chance, the drive through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains is incredible, but the views closer by are also fabulous.
If you like nature, you will enjoy this place.
Thank you for such a fabulous mountain get-a-way! Your beautifully restored log cabin is set in the middle of one of the most beautiful places in the Rocky Mountains! My husband and I spent several days in this quiet and peaceful hide-a-way and it was very hard to leave. We enjoyed Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. We have never seen such an incredible canopy of stars at night displaying God's creation; and the sounds of the elk bugling was amazing. We rode our bikes down the county roads and enjoyed the gorgeous fall colors, we hiked on the Ranch property, fly fished and had such fun horseback riding on the ranch property going through the south platte river and up and down mountains. Info on the horseback riding is in the cabin. The cabin is so well appointed with a super comfy bed in the loft with windows all around you. When you wake up you see the sunrise and deer on the property. The kitchen has everything that is needed and we enjoyed barbecuing. The family room is so comfy also with the huge sectional couch and we had a fire going every night. Of course it's always nice to have the convenience of wifi and cable. Even washing dishes was fun because of the incredible view out of the window above the sink. The town of Fairplay was close enough that we could go and explore the history of the area and eat out a couple of times and enjoy ice cream treats. We even went over the pass to Breckenridge to ride the beautiful bike trail from Breckenridge to Frisco. There are also great hikes just down the county road in Pike National Forest. In FairPlay there is a Forest Service station with great info on hikes and the area. The Java Moose is a must for a great latte or sandwich. We also had a great meal at the steakhouse in town. Next to the steakhouse is a yummy ice cream shop. Definitely take an afternoon to see South Park, a restored town from the 1800s with original buildings and artifacts. The owners of the cabin and ranch were so helpful before we arrived answering any questions we might have and even answered a couple of questions for us when we were there. We so appreciated their kindness. The ranch where the cabin is located also has such an interesting history. We came home rested and refreshed!! Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience such a beautiful, relaxing, unique and fun get-a-way!
We were looking to "get away" and get away, we did. The drive from Denver through the mountains was just gorgeous! Once we began heading into Fairplay, there were horses (and cattle and "critters") everywhere we looked, which we just loved. Driving down the road towards the DM Ranch was beautiful. When we reached the cabin, we knew we had picked the perfect place to stay. From the view (wow, the view), to the décor, to the linens... the Buyers did not miss a beat. We had several questions prior to arriving and Mary Ann gave us great information/recommendations and then some. Easy access to hiking, riding and fishing...oh, and relaxing!! And the town of Breckenridge is just a 40-ish minute drive away and well worth it. Once again, going through the mountains was spectacular. If you want to unplug and unwind, relax and regroup, this is a must-stay. We were quite sad to close the gate one last time on our last day, but hope to return next year. Thanks!
Hi Mary Ann, just wanted you to know that we enjoyed our stay at the ranch. Found a horseshoe & added it to the rack. Caught some fish and saw a black footed ferret. Really enjoyed the peace & quiet. Also the sunsets . . .
Attached are a few photos from our stay. We're already looking for dates to come back in the fall!
My son and I spent a couple of days at the DM Ranch. We had a great time--very secluded, very beautiful. We did some hiking, horse back riding, and in general, just appreciating the beauty of the place. House was great--modern, nice, all amenities. Thanks again!
