Another wonderful Spring Break visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our third time at Scott's cabin. Everything was great, as usual! And we were surprised by some amazing snow when the forecast looked rather bleak. We'll be back next year! Thank you Scott!

AMAZING Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stay in Summit County several times per ski season each year. Scott's cabin was warm and inviting. It has very upscale look and feel and it is HUGE! We felt as if we were staying with family. Thanks again! Scott and Lynn were very responsive and super helpful. Highly recommend!!!!

Glorious Ski Week

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time renting Scott's beautiful mountain home. The photos don't do justice to the place. It's simply a wonderful, warm, spacious retreat to come back to after a hard day of skiing (or anything, for that matter.)

We were two families, each with two kids in their '20s. The game room was the perfect spot for the kids to chill. The new shuffleboard table is great!

Scott's home is equipped with everything you might need away from your own home.

This is a 5-star property that is so comfortable you won't want to leave.

That said....maybe I won't post this. I want to make sure we can visit again! Oh well, I'd better. Scott and his home deserve it.

GReat place but dont expect a full refund of your deposit

  • 1 of 5

I first want to say that this place is beautiful. An excellent place to stay regarding accommodations. IF you plan on going out at night in Breck though, the cabs are hard to get coming back to fresco so make plans in advance if you have a few glasses of wine with your dinner.

MY only problem with this experience is when it came for the return of the deposit. They claimed we knocked over the ash bucket from the fireplace. We did not. I don't know if a cleaning person did it, or if they said that is the way it was so they could get more for cleaning, I am not sure. The owner lives out of state so he has to take the word of the person cleaning in Colorado.

We followed the instructions to the letter regarding cleaning up. Not only would we have not left a split ash bucket, I never saw an ash bucket! And we never filled an ash bucket. If the instructions said to clean out the stove and put the ashes in a bucket, we would have. I didn't see a bucket, nor ashes and I did a final walk through the property before I left to ensure everything was done according to the agreement since my name and money was on the lease.

When we arrived, the cleaning crew was still there, no big deal, its a very large place and it didn't matter to us. But the steps going up from the landing were dirty. Again, no big deal and it didn't matter as that is bound to happen any ways and it wasn't that bad. I say this only because they nickel and dime ya on the cleaning deposit as well. I wish they would just say they plan on keeping 300 instead of shorting you what you expect.

In conclusion. It is a very nice and welcoming place to stay. You will love it regarding the actual house, but the owner is a lawyer, and obviously a penny pincher and doesn't care about taking your word as a customer regarding how things were left. I do this trip every year and it seems to me they would want to keep a return client versus snake an extra $50 from them. Just my opinion.

Owner's Response: In five years of renting my place, and having literally hundreds of guests, I've withheld a part of the damage/cleaning deposit twice. I have also rented a number of properties from others through VRBO. I'm quite familiar with the standards that owners of rental vacation homes have when it comes to how a place should be left. My expectations in that regard are spelled out clearly in the rental agreement the guest signed. This guest's group left my place a wreck. My cleaning company called me immediately when they arrived (after the guest's departure) and told me it would require more time than is usually needed. They have worked with me for two years and I trust them. They provided detail as what needed to be addressed above and beyond a normal clean after a guest departs. There was substantialy more than simply leaving ashes (which were left all over a five foot area) in front of the fireplace. The increased charge was $50. I passed that expense on to the guest. My place in Silverthorne isn't just a rental property. It is my second home, and I spend quite a bit of time there myself. I know it well and I take good care of it. I'm here now as I write this response. It has been a rare occurrence indeed for a guest to be disrespectful as was this guest in the way he left my home. Unfortunately, that's the reason there is a deposit required.

Pre-Thanksgiving Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I took our four children and met up with her parents making ours a three generation vacation. Honestly, I was a bit concerned about pulling this off until I actually saw the house. More than enough space to spread out. The kids played in the game room while their grandpa read a book in the big leather chair upstairs. The Buffalo Mountain Trailhead was only a 10 minute walk from the front door. The most incredible scenery and some of the best family photos we've ever taken. The nearby supermarket was as plentiful as any in the D.C. area. We ended up abandoning most dinner out plans in favor of the beautiful kitchen with the gas stove. The second night- after dinner- a little fox appeared outside the window right next to the woodpile. The kids were fascinated. So was I. Needless to say, the kids had a great time and asked when we could return- before we even got home. I told them not soon enough.

amaze-balls!!

  • 5 of 5

i think there's only one word to describe both my impression of this house and the luxury i enjoyed ... WOW! this place is absolutely amazing with the huge amount of space, the 4 separate bedrooms, 4 baths, heated floors (really nice!!), fireplaces, decor, and tons of entertaining space. in fact, we hadn't even been in the house for a day, and already we all wanted to book it again for next year. in fact, maybe writing this glowing review isn't the best idea since i don't want to let everyone know how great this place is. oh well, i'll just have to compete with everyone!
