CASA PERLA DEL MAR WINNER TULUM'S TOP VACATION RENTAL 2011, 2012 AND 2013

Tulum House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Casa Perla del Mar awarded Top Vacation Rental in Tulum again in 2013 ; making it three years in a row, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Designed by acclaimed architect Ismael Diaz, Casa Perla is a premiere Mediterranean-style villa along the Mayan Riviera. It is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable vacation with family and friends. This unique and spacious home is nestled between the blue Caribbean and the luscious Mayan jungle. To insure your total relaxation, our staff is available 6 days a week to clean and prepare dinner upon request. Cost of food is not included.

With meticulous attention to detail, Casa Perla reflects the rich color, texture and artistry of the Yucatan. It features unique hand stenciling throughout the home as is traditional in the beautiful haciendas of the region. All of the doors, cabinets and furniture are locally handmade with the finest craftsmanship.

Three of the 4 bedrooms have king-size beds and the 4th has 1 bunk bed - perfect for children. Each has a picture postcard view of the sea or jungle, top-of-the-line Sealy Pillow Top mattresses, custom handmade draperies with blackout lining, and air conditioning for a restful sleep on imported 600 thread-count sheets.

Every bedroom has a private bathroom with sinks and countertops cut from local stones and exquisite fossilized shells. Each is appointed with the highest quality 100% Turkish cotton towels.

Casa Perla boasts two well-appointed kitchens with gorgeous Mexican granite countertops. You will arrive to find each fully stocked including a coffee maker, blender and microwave. The downstairs kitchen is poolside so you are just steps away from an ice-cold Mexican beer or chips and freshly made guacamole.

Each of Casa Perla’s kitchens have a view of the jungle and the stunning Mayan sunset. It’s not unusual to see an amazing array of colorful birds. Our binoculars and books will help you to identify them though it will be easy to spot our gorgeous pink flamingos!

The upstairs dining room seats 8 comfortably and 6 can be seated downstairs.

Each of the two large family rooms features a 42” flat screen TV and opens to one of our four outdoor verandas.

In addition to our verandas, Casa Perla has a rooftop deck with stunning 360-degree views. Wake up early and listen to the waves crashing on the shore as you watch the sun rise over the Caribbean. In the daytime the verandas are a perfect place to appreciate the flora and fauna of the Mayan jungle. There are literally thousands of rainbow-colored flowers and birds. And to see the sun set over the ancient Mayan jungle is breathtaking.

Casa Perla is only 50 meters (165 feet) from the water’s edge. Guests enjoy great shelling along the secluded beach or spectacular snorkeling and scuba diving directly in front of the house. If you visit between mid-May and November you can experience one of nature’s most unforgettable sights – Loggerhead, Green and Hawksbill turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in May and the hatchlings dash for the sea in November.

If you don’t feel like visiting the beach, our dark-bottom pool is as refreshing as it is beautiful. Comfortable lounge chairs were custom-made to enjoy a great book or relax with a chilled margarita. A wall surrounding the perimeter of the house assures total privacy as you bathe in the sun or enjoy a poolside bbq fiesta. Don’t worry about packing beach towels or pool toys for the kids; Casa Perla has them for you.

Free WiFi is available throughout the house.

About Victor

Tulum is a magical place and we had the chance to first experience it 20 plus years ago…...it remained in our heart and mind for another 13 years. When our son was born we would often take him to the very chilly beaches we have here in Northern California – one day my little frozen child looked at me and asked “mommy, do they have warm beaches?” A few months later we planned our trip back to Tulum and rented a house on Tankah Bay. We purchased the lot that week and began to build our slice of heaven, in October of 2009. The artistry and beauty of the great haciendas of Merida, and the Yucatan were our inspiration for Casa Perla del Mar. The inspiration for the name of our home however, is our dog Perla. We are of course, pet friendly! The Yucatan has something unique to fall in love with on every visit. Having been blessed with the opportunity to travel the world – Tulum remains at the top of the list.

Victor purchased this house in 2010

I stayed at Casa Perla del Mar for a week this May with my significant other and our two friends. The moment we arrived that Sunday evening we were like kids on Christmas - ecstatic to open each door to see what it looked like in person. The images on the site are very representative of the home, but seeing it in person is far superior. We instantly cracked open a cold one, took a dip in the pool, and vacation time was in full effect.

Watching the sunrise and being walking distance to the ocean was one of my favorite aspects of the home. We went for a walk every morning. Down the street is Blue Sky Restaurant, which has delicious pizzas (we too thought it was odd to have pizza in Mexico but totally worth it). Also on the same street was a local dive shop where we took a fishing charter. And yes we did catch a fish -- a 70 lb. marlin! The home is a short drive to all the other activities we wanted to do and it was very easy to get around.

Italy, the caretaker woman, was incredible and it was fantastic to have one meal a day prepped for us (we supplied the groceries, selected from the menu and tipped at the end of the week). While my Spanish was rusty it was pretty easy to communicate.

We felt extremely safe at the home as well as everywhere we went in Tulum.

Tips: print directions in advance like they mention on their website. You definitely want to rent a car. I wish there was a way around the required car insurance policy (I’d research more because maybe I missed something) but you don’t want to rely on taxis if you stay here. Brush up on your Spanish and/or download Google Translate or other similar smart phone apps to assist with communication while at the house and throughout Tulum.

Beautiful place

We travelled with our neighbors, another family of four, and stayed in the house for a week. The house is gorgeous, extremely well equipped, incredibly comfortable, and very well located. Italy and her team made our stay even better by keeping the place spotless and helping us with the cooking. Even though they worked hard they were very discrete and we hardly saw them. The whole process, from the booking to the final payment was very smooth and Victor was always helpful and available for a question. We absolutely recommend the place and we probably will be back.

Casa Perla was incredible! Everything about the house was perfect and Victor (the owner) helps to make the stay even more enjoyable by going the extra mile to provide you with ideas for things to do during the day, restaurants to go to, places to snorkel and dive, even good grocery stores to go to nearby the house.
The house is beautiful with every amenity you could ever want. It is spotless, incredibly clean, and beautifully maintained. We found ourselves sitting out by the pool at night looking up at the stars. Incredibly quiet. I would give the house 5 stars!!

This is a spectacular home to rent. It really is as good or better than the photos. The old adage, “it looks too good to be true” just doesn’t fit here. We had three families and a total of ten people ranging in age from seven weeks to sixty years and there was plenty to see and do for all of us. The upstairs and downstairs kitchens, the four really large bedrooms (all air conditioned), the upper and lower balconies and even the rooftop offered us lots of places for great conversation or solitude if you wanted to nap or read. The place we spent the most time at was the pool; perfect size for floating, conversation and a nice shallow end for little ones.
Italy, the housekeeper was a joy. Her meals were lovingly prepared and presented. She shopped for us and prepared everything from scratch. If you don't speak Spanish, bring a phrase book to help communicate with her and Elias the landscaper.
If you go in late June/early July as we did, bring lots of sunscreen (pretty hot and humid) and mosquito repellent (lots of those little buggers and sand fleas as well).
If you need to go to town or want to visit the nearby tourist attractions allow a little extra time to go slowly down the dirt road and jump on the highway. But with the ocean across the street, a cenote down the road, big sea turtles migrating in at night, the pool, Wi-Fi and cable television (maybe for the kids) wonderful food and refreshments, great beachcombing and walks nearby, you’ll find lots of excuses to just sit back and enjoy Casa Perla del Mar.

Amazing House!

Our group of long-term friends had an wonderful stay at Casa Perla. We couldn't have asked for more amenities or comfort. Every last detail was considered from the intriguing art on the walls in the bedrooms down to the selection of beverage glasses in each of the two kitchens. We especially loved the tiling and stenciled walls everywhere, and the upstairs porch balcony overlooking the Caribbean sea. The pool offered refreshment during the heat of the day. The ability to prepare our own meals and have plenty of space to do so was an added benefit. We loved all the patios and lawn chairs to enjoy the natural surroundings.

Italy, the housekeeper was very gracious and prepared breakfast for us on more than one occasion. Victor, the owner was extremely helpful and responsive to all our questions and inquiries.

Although we didn't swim in the sea across the road, we ventured to the local casa cenote and the cenote at labnaha, which were both terrific and very different from one another. We also visited the beaches at zona hotelera a few times, which are gorgeous.

I think we would all agree that we could easily have extended our stay and continued to enjoy Casa Perla's appeal. And indeed we hope to return one day so we can do so.

Gorgeous house

  • 5 of 5
The place is better in real life than what it looks like in pictures. We were 10 people staying there, and we still didn't need to use all the available space. We loved all the decoration details and a very custom feel of the place. We took advantage of the house-keeper's cooking on several occasions, and it was superb - highly recommend it! The views from nearly every window were splendid. The pool was very refreshing and clean (thanks to the grounds-keeper, who cleaned it every day. He even inflated all the pool toys for our kids on the first day - very thoughtful.) I pretty much agree with all previous comments about the house. :) Definitely, if we go back to Tulum, I'd stay at the same place again.
General comments about the area:
The nearby cenote is really beautiful. The beach, even though it's right across the street, isn't all that nice - very hard to walk on barefoot; we couldn't swim there either. Regardless, really nice beaches are a short drive away. The BlueSky pizza place (down the road) is super expensive for what it is, in my view. We went there on our first day and ended up paying over $90US for 2 pizzas (medium), 2 beers, 2 coctails, one side dish of potatoes and one appetizer (guac w/ chips).

A beautiful Cenote can be found 1 km from our house. A Cenote is an aquifer with crystal clear water and are uniquely found in this part of Mexico.

Casa Perla is located 50 meters from the water's edge and May through November, you can experience one of nature's miracles. Over 150 Leatherback turtles come to nest and hatch at the beach in front of our house. The Leatherback is an endangered species and these turtles have been nesting in this same spot for hundreds of years. You can check them out in some of our pictures or through a video on you tube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq0sXxTUCLU
