Overview

Mill Valley House Rental Photos and Description

First level of a 2-story duplex. In quiet neighborhood so no parties (Sleeps 2)

Vista Mill Valley has the details inside and outside that warrant your consideration. Inside, the property has nice furnishings, from granite counter tops to the Fisher & Paykel gourmet gas range. The bedroom has an 8 ft glass window and a 10 ft sliding glass door. The living room has another 8 ft window, making the wooded lot a part of your experience. Your unit has its own deck, accessible from the bedroom or the main entrance. Your water view includes Richardson Bay, Tiburon, the Sausalito houseboats, Angel Island, the East Bay hills, and, on a clear night, the lit-up cranes of the Oakland waterfront, across the Bay.

Why Mill Valley?

Mill Valley is popular for visitors from around the world because it is minutes from San Francisco, yet a world apart. Famous for its wooded hillsides and water views, Mill Valley has been the home of many notables, from Jerry Garcia to Janis Joplin. Grab a coffee in our downtown, and you might just recognize a few of our current residents.

If you've not been the the San Francisco Bay Area before, do stay in San Francisco for at least one night. But then come join us here in Mill Valley, for the perfect northern California experience.

Why this property?

A few years ago we completed a major remodel, taking much of the property down to the studs. This means that you will be enjoying accommodations that are basically new. All the small details - sophisticated lighting, built-in speakers, etc. - contribute to a great experience. The kitchen is small, so we made it special, with a gourmet gas range, granite counter tops, etc. The deck was always nice, but we made it nicer, with Brazilian teak, and cable railings. And the exterior path and steps have been redesigned, to better leverage the garden.

Finally: consider our location. Mill Valley has many wonderful properties, but some of them are time-consuming to get to. This property is only 1.1 miles from the freeway ramp.

A final thought: this property has about 40 stairs to the unit. Not 40 in a row; and most of the steps are low-rise, but read my 130+ reviews, and make sure the property is appropriate for you. Thanks!

Oct 5, 2014 Update: Construction started last Wednesday on a new home 50 yards away. It looks like there could be construction sounds beginning at 8 in the morning. They seem to leave at 4:30 pm, so that part's good. But I want you to know...

Jan 4, 2015 update: The VRBO site is continually revised, and the 'improvements' don't always work. Last month at least 3 inquiries were never forwarded to me. My typical response time is probably one hour, so if you haven't heard back from me in 12 hours, I never got your inquiry. Re-send, or use the phone. Thanks!

About Bill

I'm Bill; my wife is Terry.

Bill purchased this house in 2003

Why Bill chose Mill Valley

I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1978. Lots of communities are great. Berkeley's as entertaining as any place in the world, and Palo Alto and Menlo Park were both good addresses when I was working for dot-coms. And for a night-life, San Francisco is, of course, the place to be. But for being close to everything, yet feeling far away, Mill Valley is as good as it gets. (Go to Wikipedia, and look up 'Mill Valley' to see an amazing list of the rich and famous who have selected this town as their home.) While some parts of Mill Valley are hard to get to, this house is only 5.4 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, making the property particularly practical.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Bill and Terry,

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit at your beautiful place. The interior design and attention to detail were beyond our expectations. The view and scenery from the living room and bedroom were amazing. The terraced hillside gardens were lush, beautiful and peaceful. It was close to all Marin County has to offer. We feel very lucky in finding such an outstanding and reasonably priced accommodation. Thank you very much. Looking forward to a return visit.

Very nice stay ...

  • 5 of 5

I only review the superlative experiences with Airbnb. This is a very nice downstairs flat, fantastic view, quiet both day and night, and less than 15 minutes to to SF. You can learn things about hosting from Bill. Did I mention great value ?

Perfect location and outlook

  • 5 of 5

The unit was spacious, sleek and private; the view was fabulous; the host accommodating; and the location could not have been more convenient for hiking throughout West Marin, visiting the City or exploring Sausilito/Mill Valley. We will definitely be back! (Note: As advertised, the entry stairs might be daunting for those accustomed to level terrain.)

Simply AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

This hidden gem in Mill Valley is the best place to stay when you are in the SF area!! All 5 stars and I would give 10 if there were 10 stars available. North Bay has the best views and it is quaint and quiet. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and so thankful we found Bill's place. I would not stay anywhere else when we visit again! The little details the hosts pay to making your stay simply AMAZING is extensive. From the music, movies, maps to fresh ground coffee in the morning, why would you go anywhere else. My favorite part is also waking up to the great view from the bedroom window. I promise you will not be disappointed!

Awesome place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying at this location! The place is even better in person than in the pictures. Beautiful view of the area, and sunrise. Bill was super accommodating and friendly. There were snacks and water when we arrived, the kitchen was well equipped for anything you may need, and the outdoor patio/balcony was spectacular and smelled deliciously of flowers. Great location for many outdoor activities in Marin County. Hopefully I can make it back to this area in the future!

Ten stars!

  • 5 of 5

This rental deserves more than five stars! It's everything as described and even better to actually experience. Quiet, spacious, clean and lacking nothing! My spouse and I spent over a week here on a cycling vacation. We explored the area and were able to recharge and sleep comfortably. The bed and linens were comfortable. Snacks and water were available on arrival. The hosts were warm and so welcoming. They were respectful of privacy but always available if we had needed anything. It's a beautiful location.

I am so pleased by our stay and will definitely return when we visit the area in the future.

Terrific accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here three years in a row on relatively long visits. The place is outstanding and suits the needs of two people perfectly. Exceptionally clean, even immaculate, and well equipped with cooking stuff, entertainment and books. The owners are very gracious and responsive to every need. Great location. We plan to return before long. Could not want anything more.

Mill Valley is a special town - only 7 miles north of San Francisco, but a world apart. This vacation rental - Vista Mill Valley - is also special.

We offer a modern, sophisticated interior, beautiful Brazilian teak deck, and views to die for. And the property has location. It's not 20 minutes up in the hills, but 1.1 miles from the 101 freeway - San Francisco really is just ten minutes away.

You will need to climb 40 stairs to reach your flat, but it is worth it. It means the view is a bit better, and the garden is pleasant. Don't be surprised if a buck or two scurry away as you pass; our goldfish pond seems to be a popular watering hole!

Inside is new. New floors, new drywall, new windows, new cabinets, new tile, new designer stove, new dishes, new glassware, new bedding. Welcome to Vista Mill Valley.
