The house is beautiful and the quiet setting on the water was wonderful. A few practical things news attention.
1- written material should include information on the boundaries of the property and suggestions on where it's ok to walk e.g. On the grass shore and water the shore. Fire pit usage etc
2- information on public walks eg the trail to Roche Harbour
3- organize to guest book with practical information first and take out the promotional flyers. Put those somewhere else
4- the house needs many more face cloths and hand towels

the instructions on how to get in the house were confusing/wrong. there was no lock box and the house was unlocked (which we figured out after searching for the keys for 30 minutes). also, the housekeeper was at the house until 4:30 and we were suppossed to be able to check in at 4pm. no biggie for us, but for the price of this rental it might be to someone else. overall, we loved the location and it has insipired us to purchase our own home on the island...one day:)

Our family of 4 has visited the San Juans several times in the past few years (staying at Lakedale Resort which we love) but this year opted to invite our extended family and rent a house. Baute Bay "cottage" was just perfect for our party of 10. Not so much a cottage but a well-stocked, "cape cod style" house. It was gorgeous with great spaces inside and out--for lounging, chatting, cocktailing, reading, cooking, playing games. Lots of light, good bunk room for the kids, lovely master suite! Everything from spices in the kitchen to games in the TV room and tennis rackets in the hall closet; everything you needed was at hand. Internet connection was spotty but (thankfully) a great way to keep the teens disconnected! Beautiful setting on Westcott Bay and just minutes from Roche Harbor. We loved the outdoor picnic table where we dined by sunset every night. We all enjoyed the hot tub and the tennis courts. The fire pit was the best place to gather each evening--bring your guitars and brush up on your astronomy! No firewood was available but fortunately I had read the previous reviews so we brought some along with us. Both a gas grill and charcoal BBQ was available. Harder to access the water for swimming, but the kids ventured in anyway. Bring a little canoe or kayak if you have one. We did enjoy a 3-hour guided kayak tour out of Roche Harbor (highly suggest!) The wild geese/ducks hung out in the orchard next door and woke us early one morning, but otherwise the peacefulness of the area was unbeatable. We lucked out with the weather (clear and mid-80s the entire week). The San Juan islands continue to be one of my favorite places in the world and we can't wait to tell our friends about this place!
