Located an hour from Eastport Maine, an hour and 20 minutes from Bar Harbor, and Blue Hill on coastal Rt. 1.
This property is just feet from the ocean and west facing -- promising one-of-a-kind sunsets. It looks out on three uninhabited islands that are protected as Bald Eagle sanctuaries.
Watch the lobster boats sweep in and out of the coves, or just sit by the beach or out on Gull Rock and enjoy the ocean breeze.
I am a bit of a jack of all trades. I am attending graduate school in neuroscience but have worked for a while as a general contractor.
Sage Aronson purchased this cabin in 1999
Our family built this house in 1999 after falling in love with the area and the people of Downeast Maine. I've gone up every year since!
The lobster is great and, if I happen to be up while you rent the house, I love taking folks out to haul traps (we have 15 in the coves around the cabin). Also, as a cyclist, the scenic Maine roads are some of the best.
What a great vacation my wife and I had at this great getaway cabin on Beals Great Wass Island. My wife and I own a pizza shop in Vermont and when we go on vacation we like to find peaceful, quiet and relaxing places to stay. Well let me tell ya this cabin has all That to offer. The only time it may not be quiet is when waves come crashing on the rocky shore. But this is what we come to Maine for, the beauty of the ocean and Maine’s rocky coast. Every year we look for an oceanfront property to spend our vacation in Maine. We are so glad we found this place. We love to sit by the ocean and watch the tides come in and go out. There is even a picnic table right on the shore at this property. We spent most of our vacation just staying at the cabin and enjoying the ocean. One morning we woke up to see two beautiful deer right on the lawn. What a beautiful sight that was. A rabbit also came to visit us. I did go to Great Wass Preserve and did some hiking. I ate lobsters ever night while I was there. I was able to score some great lobsters at the Coop not too far from the cabin. I did some clam digging on the island and had a great experience. I found a pearl in one of the clams when I was eating it. What a find that was. If you are looking to get away from it all and just relax I would highly recommend this property. The sunsets are phenomenal and if you go there make sure to take an outside shower. It will blow you away.
I don't even know where to start with this vacation rental. I wasn't sure what to expect when we booked it online, but once we got out of our car and walked to the front of the property we were amazed by the beauty and breathtaking views. It exceeded our expectations. Once we got inside the cabin we were so happy with it. It was very clean, cozy and inviting. It has everything you need and more from kitchen gadgets, spices, to books, board games and puzzles. We were delighted with all the little details of this cabin. Our kids loved this cabin as much as we did!!!!
We wanted to explore a little so we hiked a few hiking trails around the island and a few others around. We went on scenic rides, fishing, shopping in Bar Harbor and visit Acadia. One hike we recommend is Quoddy Head in Lubec. This is our favorite hike ever! Bring your camera for sure!!!!
We can not thank Sage and his family enough for sharing their piece of ocean. We had such a great time and were so happy with this property that we can not wait to go back again, hopefully next year. I would give this place a 10...If what you are looking for a peaceful place where you can recharge, look no further!!!!!
Very relaxing, secluded cottage with gorgeous ocean frontage. The property is well maintained and comfortable. We have rented the cottage for 3 consecutive summers. The owner is friendly and easy to work with--no problems. The island has hiking trails and a marine biology institute that you can tour. It is a great getaway--away from all the tourist hustle and bustle. Gorgeous sunsets. Outdoor shower is wonderful! Our kids spend a great amount of time exploring at low tide. The cottage is supplied with all your basic needs in addition to games, books, and puzzles (we take very little with us on this trip). There is a grocery store on the mainland. It's only a 2 hour drive from Bangor Airport. Only recommendations for improvement would be a new toilet---the current one will run if the handle doesn't go all the way up after flushing and is quite low to the ground.
We had a relaxing two weeks! The cabin was well equipped, the perfect location with beautiful sunsets! The kids enjoyed exploring at low tide and swimming at high tide. If you are looking to get away from it all, the island and the surrounding area is the perfect place for you!
I've stayed at this cabin on several occasions, and have come away impressed each time. Despite being in the middle of a small community where everyone seems to know everyone else (and even those residents who travel elsewhere in the winter always seem to come back each summer!), the property is secluded enough that one might never see any of its closest neighbors.
It is within an hour or two drive of most of the major tourism attractions in Downeast Maine (e.g. Mount Desert Island, Winter Harbor, etc.), but I never wanted to leave the area during any of my stays!
The cabin itself is beautiful and remains in excellent condition. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathroom is beautiful (as is the outside shower!), and there is ample room to sleep a multitude of guests.
Most importantly, the Aronsons were considerate and unimposing hosts who stayed nearby, and were available to address any and all of our concerns. They took us out lobstering, hiking, and showed us the best places to eat in the area. I definitely hope to return soon!
We enjoyed a stellar Maine week at this cabin. The cabin was quiet, comfortable, well-maintained and obviously manged with loving attention. We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets, birdwatching, and proximity to wilderness and historic ports. The owners were attentive, well informed and generous. Kayaking, hiking, star gazing, delicious lobster, clams and mussels. Friendly community. Thanks for an unforgettable vacation! We will return!
