Basalt House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7-10)

Gorgeous contemporary custom home in quiet Basalt neighborhood. This 3100 square foot house features a top-of-the-line gourmet kitchen and striking “wine wall” in the dining room. Kitchen features white granite counters, a 6-burner gas stove, double wall ovens and complete cooking/serving accessories. A modern, stone-filled fireplace warms the living room. The open floor plan is great for entertaining or family gatherings, and the beautiful modern architecture and extensive custom detailing make for a very special house. Enormous windows throughout ensure that the home is light-filled and sunny.

The master bedroom, with king bed, features an entire wall of windows looking out onto ranch land and mountain side. A deck off the master bedroom allows for further enjoyment of the view. The serene master bath offers a separate shower and soaking tub.

The guestroom has a queen bed, while bedrooms three and four have a full size and twin bed respectively. All rooms have private baths and down comforters. There is also a small extra room (currently used as a meditation room) that can be set up as a bedroom which would share a bath. A comfortable Japanese–style futon or airbed can be added to any bedroom for an guests.

Wi-Fi and an office ensure that you can keep in touch during your visit. A four-zone stereo system, including outdoor speakers on the large back patio, enhances your entertainment possibilities.

A heated garage makes winter driving more comfortable—no freezing car seats or windshields to scrape.

The house is less than a mile from downtown Basalt, a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bike or car ride. There are two “townie” bikes that may be used if you want to feel like a real local (we ride to town pretty much year round). A park with playground is across the street—it is used only by a few people in the neighborhood, so it offers a nice view and many trees but remains quiet.

Basalt is a great small town with several good restaurants, a terrific coffee shop and yummy bakery. Many neat stores are worth checking out. A vibrant farmer’s market takes over downtown on Sundays throughout the summer. Whole Foods is a five minute drive. Basalt is famous for its gold metal fly fishing waters, fishable year round for the dedicated. There are several great golf courses in the area—The Roaring Fork Club can even be accessed by bike on the Rio Grande bike trail. Use Basalt as a base for biking, hiking, rafting, skiing and all the other outdoor and cultural activities of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Aspen and Snowmass lie an easy 18 miles upvalley—all on the highway. You can reach any of Aspen/Snowmass’ four ski mountains, downtown restaurants, bars, night life, shopping, and cultural activities in 25 minutes. As well, our location in Basalt allows easy access to the funky and charming small town of Carbondale (with some of the best eating in the valley) and the Glenwood Springs Hot Springs and Sunlight Ski area.

My husband and I, two daughters, their husbands and three young grandchildren spent a wonderful week at this home in Basalt. Four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, provided a very comfortable stay. We are all "foodies" so the large, well-stocked kitchen and outside grill was used every day. The owner supplied general kitchen needs so I didn't have to buy a whole bottle of cinnamon to make toast sprinkles one morning. She also supplied all needs during the week including bath tissue, shampoo, soap, etc. The kids loved playing in the park right across the street in this quiet neighborhood. We often had happy hour on the patio in the fenced back yard while the kids played in the sandbox and ran around. We loved the little town of Basalt-especially a farmers market and historic hike. We drove (or took the bus or rode our bikes) to Aspen several times and found it an easy trip.
We felt we had the best of both worlds...upscale Aspen and quiet Basalt.

Beautiful Home/Not a Mountain Hideaway

  • 4 of 5
You'll love this place, if you arrive with the right expectations. The house itself is well designed--it's full of natural light and has a lovely, private back patio--and fully appointed, and the owner, Laurel, is a pleasure to deal with. (Hobby chefs, esp., will like it--the kitchen has every tool you need to assemble a feast.) It's good for groups, too, in that every bedroom has its own bath.

Basalt is centrally located within the valley that stretches from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, about halfway between the two. That gives easy access to Carbondale (funky, fun and hip) and Aspen ("Richie Rich" and a little stodgy but also the jump-off to the great hiking, biking and skiing). Basalt, which feels more like a place people live full-time than a vacation getaway, has a decent coffee house, several good restaurants--we really liked Tempranillo--and a great outdoors shop in Bristlecone Sports. (We rented standup paddleboards there, took them to Ruedi Reservoir and had a blast.)

Understand, though, that the house isn't a mountain cabin or slope-side condo. It's the owner's primary residence, and it's located in a subdivision, not an aspen or evergreen grove. There are a few pleasant-enough trails nearby, and the Rio Grande bike path passes within about a quarter mile. (The path stretches from Glenwood Springs to Aspen.) But for serious hiking/skiing, you're facing a 30-45 minute drive, at least. Most of the great trails are near Aspen.

The other thing to understand is that, because this is the owners' home, it's full of their stuff. They created enough room to accommodate us, clearing out closet space, for example. But I often felt like I was house-sitting not renting a vacation place. I worried the whole week about my dog or my friends' young son breaking something. In the end, those worries were baseless. The boy only broke a plastic ruler, and Laurel was v. understanding about it.

Sweet Pad

Right in the heart of Basalt in a great neighborhood. Can walk to everything and easy access to the highway. We rode bikes everywhere and the trail to Aspen is just a block away. The house is perfect on the inside and it has AC which is not always common in the area but some nights were hot and we loved the AC. Kitchen is totally sweet and stocked with all the gear you will need. We just went to Whole Foods (5 mins away) and stocked up and then cooked drank wine and hung out on the porch. Very easy with kids for sure and a kid friendly house setup. High Marks and will stay here again.
