Our unique property and location are the reasons we moved to Seebert, W.V. from the N.C. coast. We are located on the banks of the Greenbrier River and are only minutes away to the 79 mile long Greenbrier River Trail, a basically flat rail trail. The trail allows bikes, horses, and walking, but no motorized vehicles. There's lots of wildlife and beauty to enjoy! We are near Mile Post 45 so you can explore from the middle. If you're into biking, an 11 mile trip will take you to the town of Marlinton, where a good lunch can be had and you can work it off on the trip home! If you're into birding....this is the spot! The town of Hillsboro is home to the Pearl S. Buck Museum which is very interesting! Droop Mountain Battlefied State Park is only a few miles away for those Civil War buffs. Pocahontas County has the best roads, so bring your motorcycle for that smooth ride! I tell folks that our back yard is 10,000 acres, which is Watoga State Park and our front yard is the river!
Why the Owner Chose Seebert: The Greenbrier River Trail brought us to Seebert WV and to Watoga State Park. Once we biked the trail and kayaked the Greenbrier river, we were sold on Pocahontas County and this area!
My husband was a boat builder and owner of Masonboro Boat Yard for 40 years. He came here to retire, but... retirement didn't suit him at all, so, our home and Guest Quarters became his project. I think you'll love his creation ON THE RIVER. Your yard has a wonderful firepit (and room for outdoor games), and access to the river. Bring your floats, boats, or bikes and enjoy the location. (or rent them at Jack Horner's). What gives us the most pleasure, is offering a place where folks can truly relax, and THIS IS THAT SPOT! It's ALL right here! So, book your vacation here in Seebert and Pocahontas County! The state's slogan, 'Wild & Wonderful' says it all.......COME SEE FOR YOURSELF!
The Unique Benefits of this Riverfront Camp: The rail trail and the river are almost more than a person could ask for in one location. The beauty of the area is awesome and the freedom to ride for miles, sit in the river, or by the fire, is enough to make any vacation worth the trip. Our place provides comfort while in the Wild & Wonderful and gives you all of the conveniences you need while here. Feel free to come and go from your private entrance and enjoy LIFE ON THE RIVER! For Winter Lovers, come and hike in Watoga State park or cross country ski the Greenbrier River Trail or one of the many trails in Cranberry Wilderness Area. Enjoy the serenity of Winter in Pocahontas County.....AND THE ADVENTURE!
BIKE IN & OUT OR HIKE IN & OUT: WE ACCEPT ONE NIGHT RENTALS IN OUR GUEST QUARTERS FOR THOSE HIKING OR BIKING THE TRAIL.(there is an additional linen/towel fee)
GET COMFORTABLE FOR THE EVENING AND BE READY FOR YOUR NEXT DAY ON THE TRAIL!
Bundle up and come on for your Winter Adventure!
The area and trail are so beautiful, we moved here from NC and have never regretted it. We say, if you love the outdoors, and we do, .....then come on and enjoy it yourselves!
Ed or Jonelle Lowe purchased this bungalow in 2004
Being right ON the Greenbrier river, along with easy access to the Greenbrier Trail, makes The Guest Quarters a great location for enjoying Pocahontas County and all of it's beauty & adventures. We give you the privacy you deserve when it's YOUR vacation and Ed designed The Guest Quarters for you to come & go as you please. There is a yard for your use, along with your own access to the river, plus a fire-pit, also good for cooking up some great meals. You'll have wi-fi, since cell service is limited and some of you need to stay in touch. Enjoy the dark skies at night, along with the sound of night critters! Don't be afraid...come on and stay ON THE RIVER, HERE IN SEEBERT!
The village of Seebert offers up the opportunity of getting a shuttle for your boat or bike, plus the folks here are friendly and the area is safe. There's lots of hiking trails in Watoga State Park, lots of good music in the area, along with our local radio that plays an assortment of music. Cranberry Glades is another great area to explore and all are close by for your adventure. Whether you are hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, or just sitting the in the Greenbrier River....this is the place to relax & enjoy Nature's Mountain Playground! The Guest Quarters provides a great location to begin and end your day and we think you'll find all that you need when you come for your stay!
My husband and I have been vacationing on the Greenbrier River in Seebert for 30 years. We started in the campground at Watoga, and now we stay at The Guest Quarters or Jeff’s Place. Not because we are too old – we are just SPOILED! This year we stayed in the Guest Quarters in June and September and enjoyed every minute of each trip. I can’t wait to get back next summer.
The Guest Quarters will not disappoint you. Its location can't be beat! It's clean and fully stocked with everything you need for a great vacation; and best of all, the owners are super friendly and helpful. They strive to make your getaway - YOUR getaway. Jonelle will gladly answer any questions that you have, and if you need anything during your stay, just let her know.
The Guest Quarters has a covered porch with a view, a special “treehouse” over the river, a picnic table, Adirondack chairs, and a fire pit. There is a side yard for playing catch, and little kids could safely ride their bikes near the house. The master bedroom has a small sitting area with a television and views to the river and side yard. An added plus is the Direct TV for any sporting events you may wish to catch, and I do have to admit, I enjoy the WiFi. Cell phone service in the area is spotty or nonexistent (Verizon) so plan accordingly.
This property is great for couples or families. Our vacations are purely designed to retreat, relax, and rejuvenate. So, the river, the trail, the mountain beauty, and the peacefulness are perfect for us. We like playing board games and cards, taking hikes, and biking the trail to Marlinton for lunch. My personal favorite is a BBQ sandwich and slice of peanut butter pie at the Greenbrier Grille. There are books and games to enjoy. Kids of all ages will enjoy the river for wading, swimming, minnow catching, rock stacking, rock skipping, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and of course, fishing. Don’t forget your water shoes!
My parents are responsible for my love of the area. It hasn’t mattered if I was 10, 21, 30, 42, or my last trip – my 50th birthday, there is always something fun to do. Using the Guest Quarters as “Home away from Home” makes the trip even better.
The Guest Quarters was a wonderful place to stay; trust me - the pictures on the website do not do this fantastic property justice. This is perfectly located directly on the bank of the Greenbrier River (perfect for tubing, fishing, and water fun), there is a great fire pit right in the yard, and the house itself is great. Jonelle was also very friendly and helpful. All around, this was the perfect family vacation location. We enjoyed the river and the fire during sunny times and darts and board games during rain. My wife, daughter, and I LOVED IT!!!!!
One note for those who are always "plugged in" - cell service in this part of the state is very lacking (although we consistently got two bars with AT&T in the back corner of the master bedroom), so you'll want to plan accordingly. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for us, but it's good to know going in if you need to make arrangements with work or family for how to get in touch with you.
The Guest Quarters is a great place to stay while riding the Greenbrier River Trail. It is clean, comfortable and well stocked with all the cooking and cleaning supplies you might need, right down to the wine glasses and corkscrew. Jonelle even offers towel and linen service for bicyclists riding the trail unsupported. The accomodations are exactly as pictured in the recent photos on this website. Very, very clean - no musty cabin odor here. The mattresses are comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen fixtures are modern, as are the kitchen appliances. The large, clean, modern shower stall has a full-power showerhead and plenty of hot water. The windows are new with full screens. Cieling fans in every room offer great air flow and central heat and a gas fireplace make cooler nights cozy. Very comfortable!
Now for the view - riverfront, right off the front porch. For a closer view, there is a little outbuilding with a small deck over the water. Plently of chairs are provided - on the front porch, on the deck, and around the fire ring in the side yard (firewood provided). Even the living room offers a river view through 3 large side-by-side windows.
Jonelle was professional and helpful in my trip planning. She fielded questions, offered suggestions and was great all around to deal with - even when our plans changed slightly as our trip neared, Jonelle was very accomodating.
For those of you considering riding the GRT - do it! It's a beautiful ride. If unsupported riding isn't for you, consider staying 2 or 3 nights at the Guest Quarters and hiring Jack Horner's Corner store to shuttle you to the north end one day and the south end the second day. The trail is essentially flat, so riding back to Seebert through the beautiful countryside is a beautiful way to spend your weekend.
I can't say enough about the Guest Quarters. Don't hesitate to book this property. It is everything it advertises itself to be and more - at a reasonable price.
The Guest Quarters is absolutely perfect for a couples getaway or a family of 4. Loved the accomodations and the beautiful views of the Greenbriar River. It has everything you could need and then some! Hope to get back again this summer! Thanks Ed and Jonnelle!
This is beautiful place overlooking the Greenbrier river, very easy access. We arrived with our entire family, including my husband myself our children their spouses, and our grandchild. This is a great place for all ages. The home is very clean which is very very important to me. Jonelle and her husband had everything ready and waiting for us, not only inside, but even chairs upon arriving beside of the fire pit. I would highly recommend this property if you would love to relax or if you want to kayak in the river or even fish as we did including our 6 yr. old grandchild, and by the way she caught the most fish. Also there is a very convenient store straight across the river which rents floats, kayaks, tubes, and even has groceries. We all enjoyed this place wonderful food and icecream, tee shirts, and talking to the locals. We would love to be able to return and have a longer stay. The owners of the property are very kind and some of the nicest people you would ever meet. It was a family dream to have all our family together, and be able to have so many activities or just to be able to kick back, and relax.
This is our 10th year of vacationing in WV, and we have found our perfect place to stay. It's all about location, location, location, and this IS the location. We enjoy hiking, biking, and fishing, and this location puts us right in the middle of it all -- Watoga State Park (hiking), Greenbrier River Trail (biking), Greenbrier River (fishing). Also provided are great accommodations and great hosts.
Here are a few things we particularly enjoyed about The Guest Quarters: great drinking water right out of the tap, very comfortable living room furniture, great appliances, plenty of lights for whatever your task may be, satellite TVs (there were 2), movie channels, internet access, well-stocked bathroom & kitchen. The place was spotless when we arrived, and the property is very well-maintained.
As mentioned above, our hosts were great. Ed and Jonelle were friendly, attentive, informative, yet very unobtrusive. It was pretty much a perfect blend.
We had a BLAST(!), and are hoping to visit The Guest Quarters again next year.
The Greenbrier River is good for fishing, canoeing, kayaking or just sitting in the water relaxing! Walk right out of our Guest Quarters and throw your line in the water! Jack Horner's Corner, across from us, sells everything from bait to pizza and beer and ice and also rents bikes & boats and provides shuttles for both. We chose this spot because of the outdoor experience that it offers and it's beauty. We've visited places out west that claim to be the Last Great Place, but once you visit us, I think you'll disagree with them and come to our conclusion that we're the last great place! Come and enjoy our Guest Quarters and see why the slogan to our state is Wild and Wonderful...........it's just that!
Other Activities: Kayaking, Birding, Hiking, Wildlife Viewing, Biking the Greenbrier River Trail, Sitting in the river in your beach chair!
Golf: Pocahontas County Golf Course
Ski: Snowshoe Mountain or Cranberry Glades (for wilderness lovers)
