About Jonelle D. Lowe

I came here to bike the Greenbrier River Trail and fell in love with Seebert W.V. When you get here.....you'll understand why!

You won't find a more relaxing place

You won't find a more relaxing place

I've never taken a more relaxing vacation than the trip we took to Seebert/Marlinton last year. We've done the theme park trips like Disney World - they're fun, but expensive and exhausting. Beach trips are nice, but the beaches are so crowded in most places that it just isn't relaxing. Five minutes after arriving at Jeff's Place, we felt like we had already been on vacation for a week. Peaceful and relaxing don't even begin to do the place justice.

The location is awesome. You get all the peace and privacy of being in the middle of nowhere, without actually having to be in the middle of nowhere. The cabin is in a fairly private location, but it isn't like you are in the middle of the woods with nothing around. There is a store right across the river from the cabin - a ten minute walk on the roadside, or a two minute walks across the river if you don't mind getting your feet wet. The store sells the basics: camping supplies, souvenirs, various grocery and household staple items, bait, and it has a pizza shop.

If you like nature, it is literally right outside your door. As we were unloading our bags from the car, I heard a shriek and looked up just in time to see a hawk snatching up a chimpunk for dinner about fifteen feet from me. Looking out over the river in the morning and evenings, you will see heron, ducks, turtles, and other animals wandering by.

The cabin itself is perfect. On demand hot water. A very nice and well supplied kitchen with pretty much all the pots, pans, utensils and whatnot that you will ever need. Comfortable beds. The living room has a nice TV wtih DirecTV and a dvd player... and what is possibly the worlds most efficient woodstove. We went in the fall when temps outside were getting into the mid 40s at night, and we had to have the windows and doors open with even a small fire going because it would heat the cabin up to over 80 degrees with them closed. All in all, Jeffs Place may be called a "cabin", but it boasts nicer atmosphere and better features than most high end hotels.

Be sure to check out the town of Marlinton close by for restaurants, things to do, and, during the late spring, summer, and early fall, be sure to check out the farmers market. The produce is great quality and ridiculously cheap. There are usually also local farmers selling top quality meat for way less than grocery store prices, and for much better quality.

You owe it to yourself to take a vacation like this at least once.
Owner's Response: It seems that you felt the same way we did when we first arrived, and fortunately, we still get that relaxing feeling!! Thanks so much for your comments on Jeff's Place because we want our customers to have what they need and to enjoy their surroundings. I'm thankful to know we have provided that, and of course, Nature's Playground has provided the rest!! It truly is an awesome area and it's nice sharing it with those who enjoy it as such!! We look forward to your return! Jonelle & Ed

How about 6 stars?

We live on the coast of NC where this time of year the morning temperatures start out in the eighties. What a pleasure it was to spend seven mornings at Jeff's Place wearing sweaters! Not only was the weather a relief, but also so was the cabin. It was the perfect blending of rustic ambience and very modern, very nice conveniences. We were impressed when the owner offered us sleeping options (did we want the extra long twins separated or combined for a luxurious king-sized bed?). We chose the king and slept very well because the mattresses were so comfortable, the sheets so smooth and there were plenty of blankets available. The very clean kitchen had everything we wanted, including enough to have a small dinner party out on the patio. For us THAT was really the best part of Jeff's Place - it was where we had coffee in the morning while listening to the calling of the birds and the murmering of the Greenbrier, it was where we read after we finished biking on the trail, and it was where we ate many of our meals. Plus, we watched the evening creep in sitting around the fire pit just off the patio. The owners have provided plenty of comfortable seating there and even a chaise (I called it the anesthesia chair because it always seemed to put me to sleep)! And the hot water? It never DID run out!! We had a really wonderful time and look forward to coming back again and again.

My husband and I stayed at Jeff's Place for a week in August and then for a weekend in October. We have traveled across the world for business and pleasure, but have never found anywhere to compare. The accommodations are immaculate, comfortable and welcoming. The setting adds to the experience and contributes to the relaxation and restoration. As hosts, Ed and Jonelle are the best! Everything you could want or need has been taken care of - you just need to show up and be ready to relax!

Perfect Mountain Respite Anytime of Year

My dad (89) and I needed this respite in the mountains and the comfort and security of Jeff's Place on the Greenbrier River was perfect. The only complaint that I have is that we had to come home after only three nights. Everything you could want for comfort, ease and security is on site in a clean inviting small mountain town venue. I would, and will, come back and invite all lookers to do the same. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent stay! The cabin is everything and expected and presented on your site as is! Thanks for everything!

Almost Heaven!

My husband and I stayed in this lovely remodeled cabin to attend The Greenbrier Classic golf tournament. It was about a 40 minute drive but very senic. Everything we needed was kindly provided by the owners-all new appliances, cookware, satellite tv, etc. We enjoyed our morning coffe watching the Greenbrier River flow by, just steps away from the patio and the steaks we grilled on Ed's fire pit in the back yard were delicious!! We hope we can return to enjoy the Greenbrier River Trail which has an access point within walking distance and Watoga State Park. Thanks Jonelle and Ed-you have a wonderful, relaxing cabin that is truely "Almost Heaven"!
