All you need for a relaxing and enjoyable coast experience

We stayed here as a group of 7 adult friends on a semi-rainy weekend in October.
The main hang-out space has a high ceiling and lots of large windows that look out on the estuary. It's full of light (if there's any to be had on the Oregon coast), spacious, and cozy with an efficient wood stove. The house stayed so toasty warm once we got it warmed up that we didn't even need the wood stove the second night to be completely comfy. The kitchen is well-stocked and great to cook in. There's an excellent music selection as well as an interesting library of books. There's also a good selection of DVDs, however the television/DVD space is not the most comfortable place in the house so if what you're really looking for is to watch movies all weekend, another house might be better for that.
We found plenty of other things to do - lazing in the hot tub, walking around the island and to the hidden dunes (amazing little forest on that trail), playing games together. Had an excellent time in this lovely gathering space. Everything was as described in the listing and very well maintained.

Owner's Response: I love this description of Whalen House and its possibilities. I also appreciate the feedback re the DVD/Video viewing section, which I knew when I set it up would limit comfort for sure. My response to this timely reminder is to replace the current selection of small slippery pillows with 15-20 largish, soft, sofa cushions instead. Upstairs there are four large bean bags you can drag down as well. I guarantee this will up the comfort levels mightily.
