Castelnuovo House Rental Photos and Description
House/villa, 3 Bedrooms 3 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Minimum rental one week rental Saturday to Saturday except for urban apartments.
Villa Antimo began life as a water mill in the 13th century. In 1606, the powerful Arrighi family enlarged the mill, which was fully functional until it was abandoned in 1945. The current owners carefully and tastefully refurbished the building into the lovely Tuscan holiday villa it is today. Located near the charming medieval town of Castelnuovo dell'Abate (with a shop and a few restaurants) and the spectacular 12th century Sant'Antimo Abbey, the villa offers its guests not only a classic Tuscan experience but peace and tranquility as well. Relaxing around the pool (open May until mid October), the senses are aroused by the magical landscape; the sight and smell of flowering jasmine, lavender and rose, the sound of nearby church bells, and the feel of ancient history. The home is encompassed by a garden and the property retains clear evidence of its former glory as a water mill. Included in the rental price are water, gas, electricity, a change of linens, use of the telephone and WiFi internet. Chef and extra maid service are available upon request at an additional charge. Pets are allowed upon request.
Three private, separate entrances take you inside Villa Antimo. The main one opens into a spacious living/dining area on the ground floor. A typical Tuscan fireplace sets the tone of warmth and comfort. Affecting beamed ceilings, stone walls and comfortable leather furniture add to the elegant, farmhouse atmosphere. The impressive, large wooden dining table seats 12 comfortably. The fully equipped kitchen (fridge/freezer, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker) is connected to an oversized pantry, replete with a prep area and a small wooden table for four. A guest bathroom and a complete laundry room (washer, dryer and ironing facilities) complete this floor.
The kitchen leads to a wide storage room, then to a work-room with washing machine and a shower-bath. From here it's back to the living room then to the stairs leading the upper floor forming one big living room with a fireplace in the corner. The room leads to an independent shower-bath and two double bedrooms, one with private bath and a door which opens out onto the garden. A stair leads to the old pigeon tower, converted to two double rooms.
There are are A/C units in all bedrooms.
Standing in solitary splendor on a hill surrounded by majestic cypress and ancient olive groves, the Abbey of Sant'Antimo is arguably one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Italy. Founded in the 9th century, the Abbey reached its zenith in the 12th century when the church was constructed. Built in the French-Lombard style, the Abbey's interior is spacious and austere. The extraordinary marble capitals were quarried from the nearby Castelnuovo quarry and are decorated with floral, human and geometric shapes. Visitors are not only impressed by Sant'Antimo's physical beauty but can also appreciate its spiritual beauty through the stirring Gregorian chants sung by the resident monks.
