This place was great. It is exactly as it looks in the pictures. We had no problems. The unit is about a 5-10 walk to the nearest metro stop with plenty of neighborhood amenities. The only thing we did notice was the internet was very slow. We couldn't stream a movie. But for all the time we spent in DC, we didn't have much time to stream movies anyway.
This was a really nice place to stay for our long weekend seeing friends get married in DC. really affordable price that was much appreciated. Everything was clean and ready for us as described. There was toilet paper, enough utensils, knives, pots etc for light cooking. Great grocery store and anything else needed on 14th st. We cooked, used the dishwasher, even had time to enjoy the in house laundry machine! Upstairs neighbor made a lot of noise at night. (Yoga? Jogging in place? Rearranging furniture?) but we used earplugs and it wasn't a problem and never lasted past 10 or 11.
Only thing I'd note that I didn't see anyone else mention has nothing to do with the accommodations. The neighborhood appears to be going through a major flux due to the gentrification going on in Columbia Heights and surrounding areas. We did not feel unsafe at any time but we did receive hostile looks when walking around and noticed that the luxury restaurants over on 11th really stand out, especially if you walk a few blocks further east (we went over to Georgia ave on Sunday morning to check out a recommended coffee shop...whoa. Guy in deli was threatening the cashier and saying he would take us all hostage and blood would be spilt because he didn't want to pay the plastic bag tax. When we left that deli, another woman was arrested before our eyes a block away.)
This kind of hard line between wealth and poverty is going on in all the big american cities right now obviously, so it's nothing new for most of us; but good to be aware what kind of vibe you are stepping into and to act accordingly with your best manners and conscientious behavior so as not to stir things up any further. There is definitely a lot of history in this area.
I really enjoyed my stay in Columbia heights the property was very clean and fairly well maintained....there are a lot of stairs going up and down the rooms and at night it can be quite noisy if trying to sleep with other people staying above or below you..I liked the concept of the two locked doors, one in the entrance and the other in the room, however the front door in my apartment was very old an in need of replacement with several locks to maintain...there was one incident that someone was trying to get in and probably would take much to break the door down....the area was wonderful with everything in walking distance....very good restaurants nearby...really enjoyed The Coupe restaurant for breakfast and coffee....
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. The unit was neat, clean and had all the essentials one could want; we had breakfast in most mornings, since access to the grocery store was so close. Great place to stay if you want to get the neighborhood feel...go to The Coupe for brunch! No surprises--everything appeared as it was described in the listing.
Definitely would recommend this place to the eco-friendly traveler who wants to save on lodging and who wants a sense of life in DC.
Excellent location-near shopping and transportation, great apartment, nice amenities. There is about a 4 hour window from the time one occupant leaves and the new occupant checks in. I would expect the apartment to be spick and span, I found dust on the furniture, tv etc--looked like it had not be dusted in a while--yeah I know that's being picky. I think the cleaning person just needs a kick in the pants. Other than that, I loved it, would come back again.
I stayed with my husband for a week in this studio. It is a little small but you don´t need too much when you are walking around WDC all day long. The location is comfortable, very near to the Metro station. Some kitchen equipment is needed, there was only one cup for instance. However, we enjoyed our stay there and recommend it.
