Sugar Mountain Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 3-4)

Skyleaf Mountain Villas is a community of six- four unit condos always in high demand because of the spectacular mountain views, easy access and friendly neighbors. Ours is a very private end unit set in the trees with level access, two covered rocking chair porches with sweeping views, comfy and cozy with a cabin feel. A stone woodburning fireplace, ceiling fans in every room, washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen, three TV’s (one is a plasma) 2 VCR/DVD’s, books, movies, games, etc. for your use. Livingroom has four recliners and seats 7. Diningroom has seating for six plus 4 bar stools. Deluxe linens, blankets, quilts, towels, are all provided for you.

'Sugar Mountain' and 'Banner Elk' are so special. Ski slopes are accessable and ski buses pick you up right here in the Complex. Here on Sugar are hiking trails, a beautiful golf course, tennis courts, and, of course, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and much more. Banner Elk has an alpine feel and lots of restaurants, grocery stores, shops, hardware stores, etc. Boone is a short drive (30 minutes) and a college town…ASU..and offers plays, concerts, football and other sports, movies, and a great outlet center for shopping. Walking down Main Street is a flash back in time….antique shops, Mast General Store, cute eateries and Boone Drug Store still has old fashioned fountain service at the counter. The Daniel Boone Inn is a must for good old fashioned country cooking….and lots of it. If you love the outdoors you are in the right place with white water rafting, fishing, gem mining, boating, the new Zip Line, and all the winter sports. Don’t forget the charming General Stores with barbeque and Blue Grass Music. We have festivals of all kinds all year long. The lovely town of Valle Crucis is close with the famous original Mast General Store. Blowing Rock is a short drive and has great shops, antiques, restaurants and art shows in the Park regularly.

After all that…kick back here in your “Cabin in the Sky” with a good book…we have lots of them, rock on our covered decks, and enjoy the mountains. Build a log fire in the stone fireplace, put on a movie…we have those here for you…and relax in one of the four recliners. We have books, movies, tapes and games for you to enjoy.

Whether it is winter with all the snow activities, or fall looking at the beautiful leaves and going to festivals or summer months keeping cool and fishing and golfing and making your friends in the warm climates jealous….we have it all here on Sugar Mountain…and close by. I have a notebook for you here full of ideas on what to do, where to eat, etc and if you find some on your own, please share them with us. We want you to be comfortable and come back often.

Congratulations on choosing one of the best places to relax in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

About Vivian Hess

I am Vivian Hess, Retired RN, from Tallahassee, Florida. My husband, Bud, was a mountain guy and though he loved living on the beach in Florida he longed for mountains....he was from West Virginia. He was a CPA and as soon as tax season was over for him we headed to our mountains for peace and tranquility. Even though he is no longer with me I still return each year for the beauty, fun and such wonderful friends that we made up here. I can sit and relax on the deck with a book and gaze at Grandfather Mountain or join the neighbors for festivals. music, plays and great food....all in Banner Elk. This is definitely a healing place. I have also kept my townhouse that sits Gulf-front on Siesta Key in Sarasota, Fl...#2 beach in US this year. I rent it also.

Vivian Hess purchased this condo in 1992

Why Vivian Hess chose Sugar Mountain

We found Sugar Mountain while visiting friends and fell in love with the beauty, the friendly folks, and the breathtaking views of the mountains from the two decks and big windows in our place. We live in an air conditioned world in Florida and love that we don't even own an air conditioner up here...don't need one...and often sleep under blankets in July...imagine. Our Florida friends can't believe this...Every season has so much to days and nights and golf and tennis, concerts, plays, hiking, white water rafting, etc. Fall with the gorgeous colors has festivals galore and art shows, etc, Winter has skiing, ice skating and all related sports right here on the mountain . All our grandchildren have grown up here on vacations doing all these things and more learning to ski, snowboard, and golf. Gem mining and trout fishing are among their favorites. We have spent many Christmases here in front of our wood burning fireplace with a local Frasier Fir tree making the place smell wonderful.

What makes this condo unique

Ski Slopes take bus next door. Winter visitors bring snow chains or 4 wheel drive vehicle

Lovely place to stay, very well located.

  • of 5

This home is incredibly well supplied, especially for a longer stay or for those who want to economize by doing their own cooking. The kitchen is far from au-currant and the appliances definitely have some years on them; but anything you can think of, utensil, pot or pan, dish, glass or serving piece is there. We are here for the snow but would love to come back for a long summer evening on the deck overlooking the valley.

Nice place w/ a great view

  • 4 of 5

This condo was close to Sugar Mtn & had great views from the living area/kitchen of Grandfather Mtn. The kitchen was well stocked w/ dishes and there were linens/towels for everyone, but the rest is up to you, so come prepared.

Unfortunately, the heat wasn't on when we arrived late in the evening. With only baseboard heat, no wood for the fireplace and single-digit temps that night, the condo never got above 65 degrees 'til morning. It would be nice if the cleaning svc had at least turned the units on low or had a starter log to get things going.

The GPS/phones we had only got you to the complex, not the unit, so be prepared to plan ahead. Arriving during the daylight or printing out a map before you leave would be a good idea. There was also some miscommunication about the lockbox code, but we were able to get in touch w/ the owners and straighten it out.

We were at Sugar to ski, but the condo is really too far to walk, so we drove down. Not a huge deal, but we thought it was closer to the slopes than it was. It's only a 10 minute drive, but make sure and arrive early to not have to park at a remote lot and take a shuttle. If you're going down later, you might want to take the complex shuttle, but we didn't utilize it, so no idea how that works.

Overall it is a nice place and the owner does a great job communicating, but a few of the details made what would have been a better experience a little less than we expected.

Owner's Response: Dear Todd Thank you for your kind words regarding our Cabin in the Trees on Sugar Mountain. Thank you for your recommendations and we look forward to hosting you and your family in the future. Your suggestion of adding a paper log to the arrival package is a great idea and we will implement this idea immediately. Most of our guests utilize the free shuttle service on the weekends and find its more convenient to take the shuttle. We do recommend to all of our guests to visit one of the local grocery stores to stock up on food, libations, and paper logs as they burn much cleaner than wood. Thank you again and come back often. Awesome place in the mountains- best view ever!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights during a ski trip to Sugar Mountain. This place was amazing! It has the best view overlooking Grandfather Mountain, and it was nice to watch the sunrise over the mountain every morning. Almost one whole wall is glass- words can't even describe the view! They had everything we needed there to feel right at home, and it was a comfy place to come home to every evening after a long day of skiing. We cooked dinner and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The fireplace was really nice also. It was great having the 2 bathrooms. We didn't use the other bedroom, but the king size bed in the master bedroom was really comfortable. The owner was great to work with also, and checked on us and gave us tips to help us enjoy our vaca. I texted him once while we were there with a question, and he got back to me really quickly. This was our second trip to Sugar Mountain, but first time at this property. We will definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hey Brandy Thanks so much for your very kind words and your family will always be welcome back to our Cabin in the Trees....When you want to get away to the beach we have a 2/2 that sleeps 6 directly on the Gulf at Midnight Cove in Siesta Key, FL.

Great Views

  • 4 of 5

Apartment is cozy and has great views. Hand soap was more water than soap and dish detergent had solidified. Other than these minor things everything was great.

Snowstorm during our visit somewhat limited what we could do but this is a great option for people visiting High Country. You do need chains on your tires or all wheel drive to get up and down Sugar Mountain in Winter weather conditions.

Owner's Response: Hey Mr Ortiz Thanks for the kind words😀 Your family just missed our shipment of our new organic amenity package consisting of Top Shelf First Class goodies including shampoos, conditioner, skin softeners, shaving creme, shower cap, sewing kits, and other nice surprises that will make your stay even more comfortable. The order will arrive for our Christmas guests and all guests in the future. Your pets were no trouble at all and while we have never had any complaints from our neighbors of loud drunken parties, towels and linens stolen or any damages caused by our dog friends...if Fido will vouch for you then the humans are welcome any time in our Cabin in the Trees. The Ortiz Family is welcome anytime. Thanks and have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year Vivian Hess your new North Carolina cousins😃

Our weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed in this condominium four different weekends this fall, and we have really enjoyed our time here! The unit is clean, well furnished, and the views are spectacular! The owners have been great to work with and very responsive to all of our requests and questions. I would highly recommend staying here if you plan to visit the High Country of North Carolina!

Peace and warmth

  • 5 of 5

This was our first 4-hr car trip w/ our 1 yr old. Soon after entering the condo, we felt we were at home. The condo was tastefully decorated all the way to the bedroom shades. It was a calm and soothing feeling. The kitchen accessories were well stocked up and appliances were in great shape. Thank you so much for making our stay very relaxed. Wish we had more time off at work to stay longer.
