“Villa Chiana” is positioned inside the ancient city walls of Civitella, a Tuscan hill town dominated by a 13th century castle. The entrance to “Casa Chiana” faces the castle, and the back looks out many miles over the Chiana Valley towards Cortona.
The living room has spectacular views, opening out onto a large stone terrace and flower garden. The ground floor also includes a studio/bedroom, spacious dining area, bathroom, a double living room with fireplace and piano, and a glass enclosed veranda with direct access to the terrace garden, which acts as an additional living/dining room. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. One of the bedrooms is also set up as a study. All of the bedrooms have comfortable double beds.
The house is fully equipped for elegant family living, including wi-fi, and can accommodate a maximum of eight adults. Many of the furnishings are sturdy 19th-century antiques, and books for all tastes abound. The kitchen is equipped with new appliances, including a dishwasher and washing machine.
Civitella has a lively local life, with two restaurants, hairdressers, a mom and pop grocery store with fresh bread every morning, and antiques shop. Swimming pools, spas, tennis courts and horse back riding are all available nearby.

Guestbook comments from the owner
First let me apologize for the delay in getting this note out to you. It has been a zoo of business travel since I returned to the states.
I wanted to let you know that we had an absolutely fabulous time in Italy, but nowhere did we feel more welcome and comfortable than in your lovely home in Civitella. It was absolutely perfect for our family. We enjoyed fantastic meals at both restaurants and had a drink outside virtually every night from Alice at the gelato/coffee shop/bar. Everyone we met there was delightful. And your Dad could not have been a more perfect host. We enjoyed seeing him and appreciated his advice on some of our travels.
Our day trips included Florence, Sienna, Cortona (twice), Arezzo, Monte San Savino and Lake Trasimeno. I just wish there had been more time. Even though I enjoyed all those trips, it sure was delightful to come home and enjoy a bottle of wine on the patio and listen to the bells and the birds!
It was one of the most special trips we have ever taken and I the memories will last a lifetime. Civitella is so centrally located to the places we visited that we will look forward to another visit when we can get back to Italy. Please feel free to use me as a reference if any prospects need one, and if there is a place we should post a review, just let me know.
Thanks again. Take care.
We are a family of historians based between London, New York and Florence. My father was born and raised in Civitella, and we are always happy to share the history of the town and surrounding areas with all of our guests.
Villa Chiana is a family home which we have had now for 4 generations.
All the of the bedrooms, living room, and garden have extraordinary views of the Chiana valley. The house is beautifully furnished with antiques, an enormous book collection, and a 19th century piano. The house is very special in that it is situated in small village, where you get to really experience authentic Tuscan life. You will get to know all of the locals who are very friendly and have access to excellent restaurants and produce without any of the tourist crowds.
