Overview

Fayetteville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Arguably the nicest log home rental opportunity in the New River Gorge area. There is unique privacy for guests as the cabin is on 45 acres located just off the intersection of Rt. 19 and Rt. 60. There are outstanding views from the hiking paths with a mountain top site for year-round sunset watching and star gazing. Plenty of challenging mountain biking opportunities. Enjoy seasonal opportunities including berry picking, sleigh riding and wildlife watching. Inside the cabin has a huge stone fireplace with firewood provided and an outdoor fire pit (and picnic table). XM radio, premium cable, 4 new flat screen televisions, wireless internet, cell phone coverage, dishwasher, washer/dryer for the comfort of guests gives you modern comforts in a country setting. There is a catch and release stocked pond with no fishing license required on the property.

This is a nicely decorated true log home-not one piece of drywall. The kitchen is well equipped for all your cooking and grilling needs. Large lower master suite with new king size memory foam mattress. There is an additional ½ bath off the vaulted living room, dining area and kitchen (with eat-in counter). Upstairs there are two bedrooms-one queen bed and one full and a loft with a futon. There is a nice sized bathroom upstairs as well. Out front there is a 48’ long porch with Adirondack chairs and a swing. Off the living room is a large screen enclosed patio with a large hot tub/Jacuzzi with outdoor speakers to enjoy the XM radio. There is also a table to enjoy meals outside.

In the event that the Chestnut is not available give us a call as other lodging options are available on the 70 acre property.

You are approximately 5 miles from the New River Gorge Bridge, the visitor’s center and the access road down to the New River (Fayette Station). Multiple rafting companies as close as 5 miles. There is a “Foodland” grocery store within two miles for your convenience. You are 15 minutes from Summersville Lake, 15 minutes to Hawks Nest State Park and 50 minutes from Winterplace Ski Resort.

Fred and Brenda are onsite to provide check-in information and to assist and provide information to help you enjoy your stay. The guest book is filled with wonderful reviews and a great source for recreation and dining ideas. Two very frequently mentioned compliments are the cleanliness of the house and Fred and Brenda’s hospitality.

Keywords: log cabin, fully equipped, private, stone fireplace, hiking paths, outstanding views, easy to access property.

About Brenda or Fred

We purchased this lovely farm after I (Brenda) pointed it out to my husband Fred on a drive one day and told him I would love to have a place like that someday. Well my wish came true!!! We once ran a very proserporus B&B here and even had many celebrities visit, but as Fred says 'we stopped because we got Jimmy Dean disease' from cooking so much sausage. We now offer our detatched guest cottage, the 'Evergreen', a second newer log home and one attached, but separate entrance guestroom to the main house. We will let you do the cooking. We pride ourselves in offering a unique experience, high cleanliness, great service and a 'non-commercialized' enviroment. We are on site at all times.

Brenda or Fred purchased this cabin in 1987

The property was a civil war encampment know as Dogwood Gap, the driveway is part of the James River and Kanawha Turnpike.

Perfect spring break family getaway

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was the perfect homebase for us during our spring break family getaway with 4 boys. Close to Adventures on the Gorge for ziplining, white water rafting, and day hikes. The property allowed them to go up the hill, run around, play football, and explore the pond. Hot tub was a HUGE hit! Kitchen well equipped with most everything you need, and a grill made cooking easy and economical every day. Rooms were quiet and warm. We will be back!

Owner's Response: The Chestnut cabin is family friendly and children have the chance to run, play and explore nature on the more than 60 acre property. Riding bicycles, playing around the pond, watching the wildlife on the farm keeps active children happy and parents relaxed. The cabin doubles as a romantic getaway for couples that are looking for a clean, private, fully equipped home away from home with all the conveniences they need for a memorable visit. The Chestnut is conveniently located within 12 miles of most activities in the are including white water rafting, zip lining, hiking, bicycling, rock climbing, the national park and three state parks. Just six miles away in Fayetteville are excellent locally owned restaurants with delicious and unusual menu selections.

Beautiful Place Great Location

  • 5 of 5

What a GREAT trip we had. This cabin is GREAT and the location was GREAT. We stayed 4 nights and we made day trips around every where. We really loved The Mill. The leaves were soooooo Pretty. Brenda was SO NICE. Left there and went to the Smokie Mountains, nothing like WV. The cabin was clean and had everything that you would need to cook with. The beds were very comfortable. Loved this place. Wish it was not so far from home or I would go at least twice a year. Thank You gor sharing your cabin. Come to Oklahoma and stay with us?

Owner's Response: October in the New River Gorge area of West Virginia is especially beautiful with the falling brightly colored leaves, blue skies and cool breezes. The Chestnut is surrounded by outstanding views of woods, fields, and the open skies and very near to excellent hiking trails along the New and Gauley Rivers. The cabin is located within 12 miles of most activities in the area including many state and national parks. The cabin is clean, bright, fully equipped with everything that couples or families need to have enjoyable visits to the area. The fireplace is always ready to light on arrival with dry wood placed on the covered porch for easy access to keep the fire burning. Soon snow will arrive and the sleds are ready and waiting.

Excellent vacation durring cold weather

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Chestnut Cabin this past weekend for a rafting trip. The weather was increadibly cold and the cabin was perfect for it. With both an outdoor firepit and indoor fireplace we stayed warm no matter what we were doing. After a long day on the very cold river the hot tub and perfect amenities allowed us to relax and warm up enjoying everybit of our vacation. I highly reccomend staying here! Brenda and Fred were incredibly accomodating.

Owner's Response: Fall in Hico can be cool to very cold, having the fireplace ready to light when guest arrive is a courtesy so that tired travelers can begin to enjoy the cabin without the work. A supply of dry wood is placed on a covered porch so that guests can easily keep the fire going. The sparkling clean hot tub feels great after a day of exciting and cold adventure rafting the Gauley River, rock climbing in the New River Gorge or being on a zip line. The Fall views from the cabin and hiking paths are of brightly colored leaves, blue skies, fluffy clouds, night skies with sharply defined stars and a huge harvest moon.

Great Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Chesnut for a rafting trip and it was great. The cabin was clean, spacious and authentic. Brenda was incredibly accommodating and so friendly. The wireless is fast, each room has TV and there is a great fire pit out back. There is a trail that leads up the mountain with great views. This is a great cabin and we hope to be back.

Owner's Response: The Chestnut is actually a log house providing all of the amenities that one would expect in their own home. High speed internet is provided as an essential for those guests who must keep up with their work life even while on vacation, for staying connected to family and to world events. For families with children flat screen televisions with premium cable channels in the great room and the bedrooms eliminate problems with programming selections among family members. The XM radio with speakers inside and on the screened hot tub porch allow guests to enjoy a variety of music as they soak in the hot tub, grill dinner or sit around the fire pit. Hiking paths are mowed around the property where beautiful mountain views can be seen that are even better than those seen from the cabin porches and windows. Deer, wild turkey, geese and a variety of other game animals are in abundance on the property as there has not been any chemicals applied anywhere on the grounds since the property was purchased in 1986. Although the 70 acre property is private and rural, it is conveniently located within 12 miles of most activities in the area including whitewater rafting, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, biking, shopping and a variety of locally owned restaurants.

Outstanding family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed with our two boys for a family vacation. The property is private and well kept. It feels remote but is close to everything! We were minutes away from great restaurants and the main visitor center for New River Gorge National Park. We went white water rafting and rock climbing and could have gone on many more adventures. The owners were very helpful with recommendations about the area. The cabin had everything for cooking and grilling. We hope to go back in the future.

Owner's Response: Providing guests with information about the area is easy as there are many adventures, unique restaurants and wonderful scenery in the New River Gorge area of West Virginia. The cabin location is minutes from most of the activities, adventures and restaurants in the area but when on the property one feels the private country setting with no indication that all of the area offerings are so close by. Hiking on the Ansted trail has been very popular with guests this season, it is a 1.9 mile hike to the New River along a beautiful mountain stream with huge boulders, waterfalls and remains of the old mining industry from the early 1900's. Returning to the cabin after a busy day, soaking in the hot tub, cooking dinner in the fully equipped kitchen or grilling just outside the screened porch provides a relaxing ending to another great day in the New River Gorge area.

Cozy and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

I reserved the Chestnut recently for a girls' weekend and it was perfect! The cabin itself is well maintained and clean. The kitchen is well stocked with all supplies. We loved sitting out on the large front porch in the morning and the side screened in porch in the hot tub in the evening. It is conveniently located just a few miles from area outdoor activities (we took advantage of kayaking). The property itself is beautiful and lovely to explore or simply enjoy the view. I would recommend for a friend, family, or romantic getaway.

Owner's Response: The Chestnut is the perfect cabin for the many women getaways as well as adventure seeking men getting together for area adventures. With two and a half baths, washer/dryer, dishwasher, all linens, fully equipped kitchen, paper products and soaps provided all anyone needs to bring is clothes, food and charcoal for the grill, all that is left to do is to have a great time in the beautiful New River Gorge area. The cabin is cleaned thoroughly along with draining, cleaning and refilling the hot tub after each guest visit. The outside area has a fire pit, picnic table and charcoal grill just off the very private screened hot tub porch with firewood being provided. The cabin location is in the center of all the activities offered in the area so that guests can enjoying state and national parks, whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, unique restaurants without driving more than minutes to reach their destination for adventure and excellent food. New and returning guests deserve to have a clean, comfortable and fully equipped cabin to enjoy their time away from the business of life.

Dogwood cabins are located within 12 miles of most activities in the New River Gorge recreation area. The New River Gorge Bridge, home of the October Bridge Day event when people come from all over the world to BASE jump legally from the Bridge, is only 6 miles from the cabins. Hawks Nest State Park is 6 miles west of the cabins and has a tram from the lodge to the New River where an exciting jet boat ride will take you under the New River Gorge Bridge so that you can see for yourself the amazing structure of the bridge. In the area near Hawks Nest State Park be sure to visit the Mystery Hole for a unique look at local humor and illusion. Babcock State Park is 12 miles east of the cabins and offers a working grist mill, fishing lake with paddle boat rentals, horseback riding and easy to difficult hiking trails.

Summersville Lake is located 12 miles north of the cabins off of Rt. 19, the lake offers pontoon rentals, rock climbing and a swimming beach. Just a few miles farther on Rt 129 a visit to Carnifax Ferry State Park offers picnic areas, horseshoe pits and an outstanding viewing platform that looks down on the Gauley River Whitewater's most difficult rapids.

The town of Fayetteville, six miles south on Rt. 19, offers locally owned restaurants, an antique mall, a rock climbing store,a mountain biking shop as well as a local live theater. There are several whitewater rafting companies nearby, canopy and ziplining tours available.

There is a fascinating opportunity in Beckley, about 24 miles south on Rt. 19, to go into a once viable underground mining tour, there is also a children's interactive museum on the grounds with actual miner's homes, both workers and the superintendent's homes.

The new Boy Scout Adventure Park is just 15 miles from the cabins south on Rt. 60 at the Glen Jean exit.

The cabin property's driveway is part of the historic James River and Kanawha Turnpike. The hiking paths have outstanding 360 degree views of the area.

There are many more outstanding and exciting adventures in this beautiful mountain area, I am amazed everyday that I live in such a naturally beautiful area.
