We love to be outside and I like warm weather. We have 3 kids and they all enjoy Mexico. You get the warm weather, beautiful sunsets, golf and all at an affordable price.
The Owner purchased this house in 2008
We bought the land and built our home. First time staying was Christmas of 2008 We chose Estrella Del Mar because it is easy access to Mazatlan, but secluded and away form everyone. Denver to Mazatlan is 1 hr and 45 minutes. We leave our home at 7 am and arrive at our home in Mazatlan at 2:00 pm. Its easy to get to and my husband plays golf every day when we are there. The kids love the pool! More important the food and fun are all so very affordable in Mexico!
The community is gated and very safe. The kids are able to go from pool to beach with no worries. They go to the hotel and get tennis rackets to play tennis and /or ice cream all by themselves. Its very secluded and safe with no venders. He loves trying to catch the iguanas. Driving the beach to stone island and looking for sand dollars are the best, along with letting the turtles go from the sanctuary.
This casa was spacious, extremely comfortable and had features you don't often see. The roof balcony was a great place to view stars and the pool with the slide was a blast. There was a small extra charge to heat it but for children it was well worth it. Having a free tennis court five minutes away was also a huge plus for us. All the furniture was all very good and the kitchen was well equipped with the exception of the knives. If you really like to cook you might want to your own.
The nearby hotel has a great restaurant and the staff is excellent. We would give this home a very high recommendation.
We stayed here for 2 months with another couple. Our various kids joined us for a couple of weeks & there was LOTS of room. House is very spacious and well equipped, although the closet in the master bedroom is locked (understandably), so there was nowhere to hang clothes. I'd recommend an inexpensive portable clothes rack for guests of a long stay. Because Estrella del Mar has its own infrastructure you can drink the tap water, which is not always common in Mexico and real benefit.
The rate was reasonable and there were extra charges for propane use (oven & water heater) as well as heating the pool, but this was explained up front. It is nice to rent "all included" because you can't be sure how much these extras will cost, but in the end it was reasonable. The proximity to the hotel & facilities was tremendous. Tennis courts always available, infinity pool almost always deserted, beach was terrific and we loved using the owners' boogie boards. Golf is pricey, but a great course.
Having our own pool was a treat & felt great after tennis. (sounds pretty good doesn't it?)
In order to drive the beach to Stone Island, you need a 4-wheel drive, which we didn't know and had just rented a sedan. The drive into Mazatlan is 1/2 hour; from there you can take the ferry to Stone Island. The ferry ride is worth the experience itself & Stone Island is fun.
Mazatlan is a beautiful city and we loved shopping in the fresh market regularly. Teatro Angela Perraulta was wonderful.
We paid extra to have the house cleaned every week (every 2 weeks is included). This was worth it. House was well-maintained and probably is better than the pictures. The owner was very responsive and helpful.
Estrella del Mar is secluded, so you need a car to venture beyond the gated community. The staff at EDM are terrific and the community is incredibly safe.
We will definitely recommend this to friends.
We had a great time staying at the house. It was well stocked and ready for our stay. Our kids had a great time in the pool but it was cold. We had access to the hotel pool which was heated. Property was clean and well maintained. I will recommend this place to my family and friends. Owner was available at all times when needed. Also liked the majic jack phone to call home.
The house is beautiful and spacious. But we had mice in the kitchen, frogs in the pool (being so loud that we couldnt sleep at night until we went out and killed them) Many things were broken and since the manager of the property didn't do a good job at reporting these problems to the owner we were blamed after our trip for broken things that we didn't break in the first place. But the worst of all was to stay in a 90 degrees F house with a humidity of over 75% every day when you are limited on how many kilowatts you use. The owner of the house told us prior to our visit in the summer that it was going to be hot but that we were going to be ok with just running fans and opening windows and we were not going to use coolers but as needed. But then she made us sign a ridiculous contact to pay for the excesive cost for cooling the house in case we needed it, we'll, this house without cooling reached 90 degrees and fans and open windows didn't work for us. It was a sauna and we were sweaty all day long. My grandma, pregnant sister and 7 children had a very hard time being indoors under such circumstances. So don't be tricked. The house rental may seem very affordable but then when you are there the owner will try to charge you ridiculous amounts of money on the electricity use, which you will for sure need in order to stay cool and healthy. I would not recommend this property at all. It's been my third time visiting Mazatlan and my worst rental experience.
This house was well laid out and was supplied with everything. The owner was also very accomodating and easy to work with. A close walk to the hotel restaurant/bar, pool and beach! Even the tennis courts are close enough to walk quickly but far enough that you are not disturbed. The real draw to this property are the friendly staff at Estrella del Mar. Made a lasting impression so we will be back! Must be experienced to be believed.
Just returned from a 5 night stay at this modern, spacious and well-equipped property. Perfect for a few couples or family requiring multiple beds / rooms. Great living areas on both floors with t.v., stereo, etc. Pool was decent but we spent most time on the beach - a 3 minute walk away. Great golf course nearby as well as services and food at Las Villas Hotel. Owner was great to deal with - prompt, detailed replies. If you're traveling to Mazatlan and want to avoid a typical resort style vacation, this is the place for you.
