CHARMING APARTMENT IN OTTOMAN HOUSE

Bonita Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

This apartment is one of the two units in a traditional Ottoman house.

(The other unit is suitable for 3 people. Please ask for the prices.)

The 150 years old house was renovated in 2010 with impeccable attention to detail. The duplex apartment consists of a modern kitchen, a living room with a sofa bed and a bathroom on the first floor. The second floor has a bedroom with a double bed, a modern bathroom and a terrace. The house is located in Kuzguncuk. This is a unique area with historical structures, well-preserved buildings, and beautiful nature. This apartment is in a peaceful location isolated from the hustle of the city, while still providing easy access to the main sites.

The apartment can be easily reached by taxi from Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen airports. Depending on the traffic the trip from both airports could take 25-35 minutes. From Kuzguncuk (or from Uskudar, which is 5 minutes away by bus) one can reach Besiktas in a 10 minute ferry ride where Dolmabace Palace is located. In a 15 minute ferry ride one can arrive at Eminonu from which Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque can be accessed easily.

The ferry station is a 5 minute walk from the apartment. The ferry ride is probably the most pleasant way to commute in Istanbul. Of course other means of transportation (bus, taxi, etc.) are also available. Crossing the bridge and reaching the European side is very easy from this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner
A recommander

SUCH A PLEASANT PLACE, I WOULD GO BACK IN A HEARTBEAT.

  • 5 of 5
This small apartment is located in a charming and friendly, old fashioned neighborhood. I had more fun shopping the local butcher, baker, grocer and produce merchants than going to the Bazaar. The barber at the bottom of the street near the taxi stand gave my Dad his lifetime favorite haircut.
The apartment itself is immaculate and clean, tastefully decorated, light, well ventilated with very nice bathrooms and kitchen. I am guessing by the heavy wood floors and the woodwork that the house is from the 1800's but there is no inconvenience associated with the antiquity.
There is much discussion about the barking dogs. It is true that they do bark at night and sometimes howl in answer to the morning call to prayer ( which by the way, the nearest mosque has a muzzein with a very nice voice). The dogs seem to belong to a specific part of a street and you can expect to see a certain dog in a certain area. The dog on our street appears elderly and cannot see well. We called him "Rascal" ; he liked to have his head patted, he would wag his tail and smile when we called him although he would stay put , not coming to or following us. I think perhaps the reason that the barking is so noticable is only because the neighborhood is so very quiet. Amazing that it is so quaint and quiet yet so easily accesible to the intensely urban Istanbul.

LOVED IT!

  • 5 of 5
We had a delightful week staying in this charming two level apartment.
All the rooms are prettily furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The extremely pleasant and helpful owner was there to greet us when we arrived off a long haul flight, (all the way from Sydney), and we were able to check in early in the morning which was wonderful. She gave us all the information we needed and it was lovely to have immediate access to a transport pass.
As others have said, Kuzguncuk is an incredible, small suburb - we didn't find a prettier street in the whole of Istanbul - and ate most evenings in one or other of the local cafes and restaurants, our favourites being Betty Blue Cafe and Kuzguncuk Balikcisi. All the local shop owners were welcoming. The men in the local patisserie where we bought a different type of delicious baklava every day even tried, (in vain), to teach us Turkish. And while you will need to get a ferry plus one or two buses, or trams, or metros to get to the main sights, this was part of the fun for us. And we were blown over by the efficiency of all forms of transport - everything seemed to go every 5 minutes.
If you can't manage steep stairs, or only have a few days to take in all the sights, then this apartment might not be for you. And in relation to the dogs - they do bark at times and there were a couple of nights when they barked for a time in chorus. But it didn't bother us as we were in relaxed holiday mode and are used to a certain level of inner city night-time noise. Istanbul is, after all, the second most populated city on the planet. And with people come their pets.
If you want a relatively quiet and relaxing, residential place to stay, away from tourists and the hustle and bustle of Sultanhamet, then this is the place for you. We don't think there were any other tourists staying in Kuzguncuk while we were there.

HOW DO WE LOVE THE BLUE APARTMENT IN KUZGUNCUK? LET US COUNT THE WAYS!

  • 5 of 5
Everyone who has stayed here recently has really said it well; this place is a gem. Just reading the previous reviews not only validates our experience, but is making us want to come back again. Yesim, the owner, is who really makes this place so special. She obviously has a great sense of design which is apparent in the apartments. She helped orient us to the area. She even provided a public transportation pass that we could add money to on our daily trips into the city. She is always available for food and shopping recommendations. She even helped us negotiate the post office in town. She also gave us the name of a friend of her's, Miriam, who we hired to give us this amazing tour of the bazaar area of Istanbul. When we first arrived in Istanbul, it was raining and the taxi driver didn't want to take us to Kuzguncuk. She talked with him and us and helped us negotiate the ferry to the Asian side and a taxi to the apartment. We so appreciated her help and availability. When we arrived at the apartment, there she was standing at the front door to welcome us, and ready to get us oriented to our little home for the next week. One of our favorite places to eat in Kuzguncuk was Betty Blue. You just walk into her kitchen, have a seat and ask what's for dinner. She is amazing and so was her cooking. You can hop on a dolmus (a mini bus) to Kadikoy and see this interesting city and eat at this delicious restaurant, Ciya, just a few blocks from the ferry landing. We also walked to the summer palace underneath the Bosphorus Bridge just a short walk from Kuzguncuk. We loved falling asleep and waking up to the call to prayer from the local mosques. Also, you got to try the seafood restaurant right on the water front next to the little park (pictured on this page). Yesim manages a number of apartments in the area, including one with an amazing view of the Bosphorus. That's where we are going to stay next time! At the end of our trip we did stay a few days in the old city, which we did enjoy. However, staying in Kuzguncuk, really allowed us to experience the area in a totally different way. We got to meet locals, take different types of public transportation and escape the touristy areas and relax. Thank you Yesim for making our trip so special!

THE PERFECT PLACE TO STAY IN ISTANBUL!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful place! I traveled with another woman friend and we stayed in the upstairs "blue" apartment for 10 days, we couldn't be more pleased. Firstly, the owner was lovely and very informative, leaving us transportation cards and maps. The apartment was very nicely designed, clean and modern, yet warm and user-friendly. Even a washer to do laundry! The best part was the location. The town of Kuzguncuk was very quiet and safe, quaint tree-lined streets. There are great cafes and restaurants (even a farmers market on Wed.) right down the street. The local bakeries were wonderful for a quick breakfast and coffee on the way to the bus. A short few blocks from the apt., at the end of the street, you catch a small bus for under a dollar and it's only a quick 5 minute ride to the Uskadar Ferry station. There you can take a picturesque and relaxing 15 minute ferry to Istanbul's main attractions and downtown. It costs about $1.50 each way (much cheaper and way more fun then trains and taxis), they serve hot turkish tea/coffee on board and I must say, the daily boat trips were one of my favorite parts of the trip. The view of the city from the water was amazing. It was also nice to get away from the hustle and haggling of the city and go back to our own little town at the end of the day. We loved being able to cook and entertain friends. We went on an amzing tour of the Grand Bazaar (highly recommended) with the owner's friend. She took us into all the hidden workshops and back courtyards of the Grand Bazaar and filled us with rich knowledge. You will be so glad you chose to stay here. Thank you!! I am already trying to figure out how to return to this lovely home away from home!

AWAY FROM OVERWHELMING MULTITUDES OF ISTANBUL.

  • 5 of 5
We stayed 10 days for winter vacations in Yesim' house, during first half of December. It's an old wooden house, like in fairy-tales, yet greatly renovated and furnished (my wife pointed IKEA all around). Nice heating system, fully completed kitchen, powerful shower, and soft comfortable double bed (no twins attached). All much needed after spending the day in the overcrowded and ear-shattering Istanbul. As for noise, we heard only one night some far-away barking, nothing disturbing. Not very sure, yet I think there isn't any mosque nearby, since there was no mosque's song early in the morning to disturb us.

The neighborhood is extremely quiet, isolated with forests on three sidws and sea in front, so there are no people traveling or wandering through it, only locals. In 500 meters to main road, are located small family restaurants and small groceries shops. It is in total contrast to pushy vendors of Istanbul area, with friendlier service. On the main road there are minibuses to Uskudar ferry stations (3 minutes travel - 1 euro/2 people), or in sunny days we walked for about 12 minutes along marina.

This house has definitely contributed in our enjoyment of Istanbul, and will be our first choice the next time we return. Thanks again Yesim!!!

IDEAL SPOT

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here for a week in September 2012. We had a wonderful time. The apartment is gorgeously renovated, but still has lots of old period character. My wife is an architect and adored the space.

We also liked the location -- a charming neighborhood on the Asian side of the city. The neighborhood is across the river from most of Istanbul's tourist sites, but we really enjoyed our 15 minute ferry rides each morning and evening. We loved picking up vegetables in the neighborhood farmers' market, buying fish by the river, cooking dinner in the apartment's adorable kitchen, and eating outside on the second-floor terrace.

Best of all, Yesim is the best host a traveler could ask for -- extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable about the city, and one of the warmest and most welcoming people we've met in our travels.
