As a native of Montana, I was raised with sweeping prairies and rugged mountains. The Paul Ranch is 160 acres of natural beauty and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing this peaceful and spectacular setting. Rick and Kathy, your hosts, will personalize your stay to make it one to remember. Come stay with us a while...
The unique benefits of the Ranch include the wildlife that inhabit the property, the pair of red tailed hawks that take up residency every year, the awesome mountain vistas, the clean air, the clear night sky, the get-away-from-it-all setting. Hearing the morning and evening sounds from the wetlands conservation area that borders the property will connect you with nature and refresh your spirit.
We just returned from a 2-week road trip across the US. We stayed 2 nights at Elk Willows, and everyone in our party agreed it was one of the highlights of the trip. The pictures just do not even do the place justice. The sunrise and sunset views were spectacular. The silence there was wonderful. Our 10-year-old daughter had the best time there simply playing outside with the neighborhood friendly dogs and the ranch's alpacas. She now wants to move to Montana. :)
The lodge was so very clean and comfortable. Our family of 3 was traveling with my parents. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Our only regret was that we didn't book it for longer. I would love to sit on the front porch and just watch the endless views for several days.
Glacier National Park is a simple, short drive away as is the Canadian part of the park in Waterton. The border crossing was not crowded and was easy and quick. We found the east side of Glacier nicer and more picturesque than the west side. We saw lots of bears while in and around the park. We saw elk at sunrise on the ranch. Janice was so helpful and nice. She supplied us with bear spray and told us how to use it. :) She also cleaned daily and brought us some delicious homemade caramels! She makes you feel like you've known her for ages. I had to resist the urge to hug her goodbye after just 2 days! If you want solitude and beautiful views, book Elk Willows. We loved it and hope to visit again someday.
This was such a great find for us. The home was really nice - very clean and very well stocked (the kitchen had anything you could possibly need). Our kids loved visiting the alpaca herd, we all loved the beautiful views and the quiet area. The location was ideal - close to the border to go into Waterton, close to the Many Glacier and St. Mary entrances, and it didn't have the crowds that the west side of the park sees. Janice was very nice and very helpful and we loved having dishes done and beds made when we got back from visiting Glacier. It made it feel even more like a vacation. Our kids are already asking when we can go back. I would recommend this place (or any of their other properties on the ranch) to anyone. We hope to come back again soon.
This was the perfect place to explore and have fun on the East Side of Glacier. We went to Waterton Canada, Hiked from Many Glacier, rode the boats from the Swift Current lodge, drove to the top of Logan Pass. We tried to split our vacation in two parts and spent time on both the East and West side of the park. I would definitely say that this was our favorite part of our vacation! We saw more wildlife and it was just a much more peaceful part of the park.
Our party consisted of Grandparents, Parents and teenagers. The home was perfect for us, very clean and plenty of room for everyone. I really liked having the second sitting room. When the kids wanted to watch TV the adults could play cards at the table or relax in another room. The home was VERY clean and it was nice having Janice come in everyday and do the cleaning while we were playing in the park. The bathrooms would be cleaned, beds made and dishes washed when we got home! Wonderful!!
I would highly recommend this home.
My wife and I brought our two kids to Glacier last year, and from past experience we knew we wanted to stay on the east side of the park. With the kids we've found it much more economical to stay in a rental so we can eat two meals a day at home. Our stay at Paul Ranch was wonderful.
First of all, the location was excellent. Close to the Many Glacier entrance, really close to the highway to Waterton lakes, and a short drive to the St. Mary's entrance at Glacier. The west side of the park is built up more and there are more rentals/restaurants, but honestly the east side of the park is much prettier and has the better hiking trails.
Coming from Chicago, we really wanted to be away from it all, and this place hit the spot. The home is on top of a hill overlooking the ranch and the mountains in the distance. The view was outstanding. Every morning we watched the sun come up over the moraine. Completely quiet, we had some elk around our house the 1st day we were there. Our loud kids probably scared them away after that...
Speaking of animals, the house is on a ranch with cattle and more importantly, ridiculously cute alpacas and a llama.
The house itself was fine, quite nice inside, the deck was fantastic, kitchen was useful. No complaints.
The caregiver was very helpful, she made some homemade cookies for us one day. When we checked in she gave us a good overview of everything. We felt very much at home.
Bottom line, next time we come back to Glacier there's only one place I would stay.
This is a beautiful home with everything you'll need for a wonderful vacation (e.g., plenty of living space, deck with a gorgeous view, washer/dryer, fully-stocked kitchen, satellite tv, wi-fi, telescope, daily housekeeping and very friendly assistance 24/7). What makes this place so special, though, is its location. Located on a small, working ranch just just minutes from the Many Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park, the mountain and valley views are breathtaking. You are also likely to see wildlife in the early mornings or evenings -- we saw Elk and a grizzly bear one night, and our children loved seeing the Alpacas every morning. If you are interested in exploring the many spectacular hikes and scenery on the eastern side of Glacier and Waterton parks, I doubt you can find a better place to stay. We look forward to returning again some day.
