About Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals

We were raised in Florida but have come to know North Georgia through family over the last 29 years.

We love the mountains and great outdoors.

Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Mountain Laurel Cabin Rentals chose Cherry Log

We have always loved the North Georgia area and bought some property up here about nine years ago with the hopes of building a cabin for retirement. We travel to this area several times a year and it just made sense for us to buy something in the meantime.

We selected Cherry Log because it is conveniently located between two charming towns...Blue Ridge and Ellijay. Each are quaint in their own ways.

Cherry Log is far enough away from our home in FL to feel like we are truly getting away, but close enough to hop a plane and travel just 90 minutes by car. Perfect!

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin has all the amenities you would expect to find at a larger cabin.

Special features include two fireplaces. One wood fireplace on the outside spacious entertainment deck and one inside the living area which is gas. Both are huge and rocked. There is a spa, outdoor large screen TV and gas grill. There are nice rockers on the porch to enjoy the mountain view.

Cabin offers all large appliances and smaller ones too. If you want to cook, you will have everything you need. If not, there are plenty of area restaurants from commercial to cozy little family run venues.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Went to Tallulah Gorge in Northeastern Georgia. This was worth the hour and a half drive. We were sore from all the steps but are glad we went.

Deep cleaned the cabin. Great time!!

Slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

After the first hour I was totally relaxed; just what the doctor ordered when getting away from a stressful job! Where to begin? Indoors, the cabin (truly a cabin) is just gorgeous with all the right extra touches and decor. They actually care enough to give you excellent quality towels and plenty of them. There are Himilayan Rock salt lights in each bedroom which after going into town in Blue Ridge I discovered help greatly toward dust reduction, reduced snoring and healing (psoriasis, breathing, excema, etc.) If you have a chill, just turn on the gas fireplace at the push of a button on a timer, no less. Heats the room up so quickly, which we needed at times as it is still March. But the best part is the outside. Unbelievable! It's a man cave, but as a woman, I LOVED IT! The outdoors has a huge covered wooden deck. It's as big as the cabin itself, with a gorgeous grill, sink, fridge (for your libations, because who can be bothered to walk inside....when you're watching March madness by the fireplace)..yes AND a fireplace and TV! The adirondack rockers were my fav overlooking the valley (great for reading or meditating). And if that weren't enough, yes, a hot tub! I think this is a GIRL CAVE too.

Wake up to the chirping birds...this place has it all...including Leo, the sweet dog that comes around to welcome you each day. He's smart enough not to go inside. He just likes to lay around if you welcome him, if not he'll go away. Leo made the stay even more like a home for us.

I was there on their opening weekend and I couldn't believe how much there was to do. Besides Blue Ridge, which has several great resturants, including a restaurant (or 3) with the James Beard award (Harvest). Went hiking to a waterfall and White Water Rafting on the Ocoee near the Olympic rafting site for the 1996 Olympics. Who knew there was so much to do there. And if you like Craft Beer, you're in the right place. Plenty of that and specialty drinks (organic) in town, too.

By the time I left here I was window shopping Real Estate in town.

You can't go wrong with this place! The owners care and it shows.

PS - rent an SUV, the road is a bit steep and can be muddy in the rain

Girls Weekend Trip to the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is exceptionally luxurious. The attention to detail is definitely first rate. The perfect size for 4 ladies to have a relaxing fall get away from children and spouses. We spent the majority of time outside on the fabulous pavilion in front of a fire, periodically entering the relaxing hot tub and grilling and preparing glorious meals. The cabin not only met expectations, but exceeded them as well. We were greeted by a couple of deer on our first day and even had a friendly visit from a local golden retriever. The only thing missing was a cheese grater, which we bought and left there for future use. They literally had everything else. It was clean and smelled good. The beds were comfy and I LOVED the salt lamps in each room. How relaxing! It was wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin.

Long Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed a long weekend getaway to find rest and relaxation. What a beautiful cabin! Everything was just as it seems in the pictures, perhaps better. We heard a vehicle go up the road only a few times with no other cabins in sight. Peaceful atmosphere and wonderful outdoor deck. I would highly recommend!

Get away & relax

  • 5 of 5

Little Bear is one of the most comfortable, peaceful places. The cabin is clean, has a well equipped kitchen, beautiful bathroom (with really nice towels), comfortable bed, and most of all- the best deck ever! Enjoy nature, cook, even watch tv... And a little rain didn't dampen our enjoyment either! We absolutely recommend this cabin and we will be back again soon! Can't wait! Don't forget to check out the nearby towns - nice shops and also the scenic railway!

NOT a Hideaway...

  • 2 of 5

We were very much looking forward to a very relaxing, quiet getaway to the mountains. We have had unbelievable success using VRBO to find little hideaways to get away from the kids and work and hectic life in the past...we were expecting the same this trip, even booking an extra night so we could enjoy a leisurely departure on Sunday afternoon vs rushing out in the morning.

Our disappointment started when pulling up to the cabin. The cabin is NOT secluded, there is a road to other cabins that passes directly in front of this cabin and there is another driveway directly behind it, literally surrounding the lot. While the elevation of the cabin prevents seeing the traffic on the road below, there was quite a bit of noisy traffic on the gravel road throughout our visit, and several groups of people walking by throughout the stay--not the quiet, nature escape we had planned.

We also selected this cabin because of it's "great" entertainment deck, with big screen TV. This is where our disappointment really grew. The entertainment deck is under video surveillance! Now, I understand that having a TV outside is risky, BUT the privacy of guests should be first. We called the rental agent and she laughed at our concern, stating that the TV has been stolen 2x in the past, but assured us the camera is only focused on the TV and NOT the deck or hot tub. Hmmm. Looking at the camera, I could tell that wasn't the case...it had a clear view of the whole deck AND hot tub...needless to say we were not interested in sharing our weekend with the owners or the internet regardless of their word that it wasn't capturing anything else....by the way, the key for the new TV cabinet wasn't even available.

Needless to say, we spent the rest of the weekend wondering where other cameras may be or listening to see what cars or pedestrians were going to stop at the cabin. it was a creepy feeling to say the least.

If you don't care about a true private getaway, don't mind car traffic on gravel roads, and don't mind being monitored on camera, the cabin is fine. It was well decorated, clean and comfortable. But if you want a quiet, romantic, PRIVATE getaway, this is not the place for you. Trust me, from experience, there are many other fantastic options to choose from. We wont be back, here.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that so many items did not meet your expectations. Prior to your arrival a crew of people worked diligently to have the entertainment deck set up with a working television. The camera is in place due to two prior thefts, of the outdoor TV when the cabin is empty, as stated by the management company. They were also correct that it only faces the TV. They did fail to mention guests are able to turn it off during their stay but must have it back on prior to departure. For this, as owners, we are profoundly sorry. As for the seclusion of the cabin, you are the first guests in three years who have ever said this. All other comments are to the positive about privacy. I think the above issue may have exacerbated your experience. We would like you to come back and give us another try. As an incentive, we will offer you two complimentary nights with two paid nights. This offer is good for one year from your previous stay and can be used during any time period you prefer, including holidays, so long as there is availability of the dates you want at the time of your call. Please contact the cabin rental agency when you are ready to book and let them know of this incident. They will contact me to confirm. Again, we are sorry your experience was not what Little Bear Cabin truly has to offer and hope you will consider coming back. Alan and Debra

This cabin was perfect for a getaway for just the two of us! The cabin is beautiful and close to all the things we love to do (running, biking, and horseback riding). We will definitely be back.
