My wife and I love the outdoors, skiing, hiking, camping, boating
This property has been in the making for 30 years. We built Shadows Den for our family retreat.
We spared no expense when building.
Shadows Den is built for a 50 foot snow load. The 10 acres it sits on is all about the animals. They were there first, we are only visitors, but here to enjoy
We have decks around the whole house. We built a pond for the moose to come in and drink. It is so great to see a moose and calf ten feet from you
We enjoyed 4 days at Shadows Den in January. What a neat home! Everything we needed was in this home. A fun and challenging drive to home sets the mood for a relaxing time. Caretaker was extremely helpful. Would recommend this home for a large gathering or for a quiet, cozy retreat for two. Unbelievably beautiful and accommodations are top of the line. You will not go wrong with a stay here.
My family and I spent Christmas at Shadows Den. We found the home via our own online research, so had no additional background experience. We were beyond thrilled w/ our stay to say the least. The home is BEAUTIFUL and offer every amenity. Our party ranged in age from 25-65 and everyone felt there were plenty of options to meet their interests - from the game room, hot tub, sledding hill, snowshoeing near by.... And the great room was the perfect spot for family gathering plus the kitchen is incredible and we had so much fun cooking together.
The owners were so great about providing any info we requested and the caretakers are wonderful too.
We definitely hope to return!!
My family has travelled to Shadow's Den annually for four years to celebrate Thanksgiving together and frankly love the place!
There is plenty of room for our family to hang out together and entertain extras for turkey dinner, and family time. We like the location, within minutes to Victor or Driggs, but the lay out of the subdivision gives you the feeling that nobody else is around.
We have rented many times around the country, and you will at times have issues with rental homes. We have only had minor issues at this location, and when notified, the owner went out of the way to take care of them for us!
I will rent again and definitely recommend this wonderful place!
Just a few of the cleaning issues:
The bedding was dirty and pillows were disgusting.
The towels smelled of mildew, as if they had been left to “dry” in the washing machine, requiring us to wash all of them.
The stove wasn't clean.
The freezer was filthy.
There were dead mice in the BBQ.
The downstairs patios were unusable because they had not been cleaned.
The Jacuzzi had a layer of scum.
I wish that I could post photos here...I posted a photo on Consumer Affairs. I hope that they accept it.
We stayed at this rental from 8/29/13 to 9/5/13. Our stay can be summed as a series of hits and some minor misses. The biggest hit was the breathtaking home, it's beautiful setting, top quality furnishings and exquisite craftsmanship. It is more stunning in person than the photos can show. Unfortunately, we were disappointed that we weren't able to utilize the gorgeous outdoor grounds or fire pit as either the irrigation system was turned on (at night) or the yard itself too wet to easily walk on during the morning; simply the cost of providing such a lush landscape in an arid climate but we would have loved to explore the outdoors. We did enjoy sitting on the multitude of decks that overlook the yard and valley below. The non-stop hummingbirds at the deck feeder were amazing!
Housekeeping was also a bit of a hit and miss as some of the areas were immaculate upon arrival (master bedroom suite) and some of the areas (first floor second bedroom bath) required additional cleaning from us prior to using. Biggest issue was the overwhelming smell of dog urine in the lower level bedroom. We had a family friend accompany us, and it was quite embarrassing to house him in an almost uninhabitable smelling bedroom. He was eventually able to overcome the smell by Febreeze-ing the room for 3 days. An additional hit was the very generous fruit welcome basket that was waiting for us upon arrival; nice touch.
While the location of this house ended up being not ideal for us, I could see it as a good spot for those wishing to spend time on the western side of the Tetons, or limited time on the eastern side, or simply wanting to enjoy the home itself. We, on the other hand, were interested in fully exploring GTNP, Jackson and YNP which meant a lot of time spent traveling each day over "the pass" to get to those areas. It is a beautiful drive, but cumulative hours spent driving that we would have preferred to spend in the parks themselves.
Activities that we would recommend are anything to do with Grand Teton National Park - it is spectacular! Additionally, we found the food in Jackson and Victor to be simply outstanding.
My husband & I rented Shadows Den with another couple. We dropped our stuff off and went right down into Victor to fill up on groceries at the Victor Valley Market & Café and was impressed at the quality and selection in this little corner market. With the truck full again, we went back to enjoy 8 days in the beautiful peaceful surroundings of Shadows Den. The house is all you see on the website and more. We loved that there are so many different spots on the property to sit & enjoy the leaves on the aspens moving in the breeze, the many varieties of birds, the wildlife, and tons of hummingbirds. (especially if you take the time to fill up their feeder). It is a great location for visiting the surrounding area and enjoying what nature has to offer.
