Linden House

Majic Chicagoland
Review Submitted: January 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We love this place!

First of all, the location is easy to get to from our Chicago area home. 90 minutes when traffic is good, sometimes a little longer, but it feels like you're a long way from the city, like you're way up north.

The area is great for a lot of reasons, the most obvious is the proximity to Warren Dunes State Park and Lake Michigan. It's a pleasant walk to the park, or an easy drive if you need to. But you're also close to so many good restaurants, the bike riding is great on the smooth country back roads that wind past wineries, and you're not too far from the conveniences of New Buffalo and St. Joe.

But about the house. The owners have really upgraded the place right. The master bedroom upstairs is really nice. The open floor plan of the first floor works really well with big families or groups of friends. It's clean and bright and comfy and cozy and just has a real good homey feel about it. Whatever the season, and whatever the day holds, it always feels good to come back to the house.

Congratulations to Maggie and Tom for really creating a comfortable home away from home.

Tom, Chicagoland.

Great family getaway

Tracela Palm Springs, CA
Review Submitted: January 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
Whenever we are in the Midwest my twin daughters and I love to get away to Linden House for a relaxing week. Frequently we spend our week, comfortable with thier cousins and some of our friends. The roomy interior accomodates 4 adults and 4 children confortably. Walking distance-or a short drive if you like to bring all the toys-to Warren Dunes, the cottage is a relaxing getaway. The screen porch in back is a cozy space for reading or late night family card games. My daughters love the balcony off of the master bedroom for relaxing. They prefer to sleep on the first floor four season porch where the hustle and bustle of the early risers doesn't disturb their their precious teenage sleep.
Fresh sheets and extra towels plus a well-stocked kitchen make this cottage a great place for us. Even when we fly out from CA and cannot bring all the extras we like at a beach house.
The kitchen is easily stocked at local produce stands and groceries or nearby restaurants take care of the cooking for us.
Linden House is a great getaway.
Owner's Response: Thanks Tracy...hope to see you back at Linden House soon...Maggie & Tom

The Linden House is our unofficial

Tom and Deb Chicago suburbs
Review Submitted: January 25, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our young children (ages 3-8) talk about "The Linden House" all year long, so we couldn't imagine vacationing any place else! The house is great for our family, especially the screened porch, big back yard with play area, grills, and firepit. A wonderful location for getting away from technology and enjoying nature with the kids. Also, the home comfortably accommodates our family + grandparents, uncle and niece (9 in all). Our favorites are running up and down the Dunes, wild Lake Michigan waves, and the occasional trip to Oinks Ice Cream shop in New Buffalo. Maggie is very helpful and always available before/during/after your stay. Looking forward to next summer's trip already!
Owner's Response: Deb, we are so glad that Linden House is a great fit for your family...see you in August!

Wonderful!

KK Lombard, IL
Review Submitted: October 21, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
I have debated on writing a review to lose my rental availability...hehe.

We have rented this house 4 times for family get-togethers. We adore the house and the area. The house is very roomy. With three bathrooms to accommodate my nieces :D It has always been very clean.

We've had our share of good and bad weather there. On the good days, we've taken bike rides, gone on wine tours, walked to the beach, hung on the porch or just lazed around in the back yard. On the rainy/cold days, we've hung inside with a fire in the fire stove, played board games and watched some movies. We've even rented with another couple for a winter weekend getaway - what a blast!

The kitchen, dining room and living room are all attached so it's great for having big family meals. Everyone helps out and can still be social. Kids drawing/coloring on the table, people slicing and dicing, listening to music from the den and others in the living room having a glass of wine.

I can't say enough about this house and the area. There's some really great restaurants, produce stands and butcher in the area. Our family loves it - from the youngest 3 year old to 75 year old Grandma.

Will definitely rent again!! The owners are wonderful!

June 20-24, 2008 Family Getaway

welovemichigan Ballwin, MO
Review Submitted: July 22, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This home in Sawyer, Michigan is wonderful. It's setting is in a heavily wooded neighborhood about 10 minutes from downtown Sawyer. The house is lovely. We had 6 people staying (parents, grandparent and 3 teenagers). We were never bored. We rode our bikes to the Dunes and hiked the dunes one day, went to Lake Michigan in Warren Dunes another day, went to the corner market on our bikes for fresh produce daily, ate pizza at Capozzio's restaurant one night-fantastic!, played board games when it rained, etc. Lake Michigan is very cold in June, but the weather was still warm enought to get in knee deep--deeper if you're younger! Maggie is very sweet and even called the house to check on us. We loved the area and plant to return next summer. It costs $8 a day to go to the area parks, so it pays to plan an entire day there or to bike or hike in--that's free! It takes about 20-30 min. towalk from the house to the lake, but you can be inside the Warren Dunes park in about 10 inutes by bike, with an additional 10 minutes to actually see the lake. I would recomment this house for almost everyone. Grandma is 75 and has problems with stairs and all of the bedrooms are upstairs, but she managed. We all enjoyed the screened in porch, built a fire in the fire pit outside and make s'mores and BBQ'd two nights in the smokey joe out back. I can't say enough about the house, the owner, the town and the area. Definitely a place to return to.
Owner's Response: We appreciate the great review. It is a lovely area and we have had lots of great times at Linden House.

Thanks,

Maggie & Tom
