Located 5 minutes from the small, historic town of Pahoa on the eastern side of the Big Island, you're just 25 minutes to Volcano National Park and Hilo International Airport. Discover the quieter side of Hawai'i. The Big Island has everything there is to see and do in Hawai'i, all on one island, and with no crowds.
Enjoy walking on an active volcano and watching the lava crash into the ocean. Explore the quaint town Pahoa, natural hot ponds to soak in, horseback riding, helicopter tours, botanical gardens, beautiful waterfalls, farmers markets, a macadamia nut factory, historic Hilo and it's waterfront shopping, coffee plantations . . . the list goes on.

We have family in and around Hilo, and this particular neighborhood is one of our favorites. Within a short drive of the house there are at least half dozen interesting sites and locations to visit. We also like the small town atmosphere the Pahoa offers, and still have the conveniences of Hilo not far away.
We found the rental home to be clean and had everything needed for a great vacation(beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, etc). We really appreciated the extras provided (dish soap, laundry detergent, etc).
There were six of us that stayed in Pahoa for two days as we explored the volcano national park. It is about a 45 minute drive from the park. We had to make a last minute change on the days we were in Pahoa and Don was very accommodating in helping us out. It is a very nice house with all the amenities we needed. The wifi reception was great, and we really appreciated having the laundry facilities and extra towels. The home was clean, relaxing and comfortable. A neighbor stopped by while we were outside and volunteered his barbeque if we needed one. The house doesn't have air conditioning but cools down quickly with the windows open. The frogs are quite vocal and will serenade you in the evening.
We chose this house in Pahoa for the location and price. Although there were just two of us, the 3-bdrm/2 bath house would be comfortable for 6. The great room(living room, dining area, seating at kitchen island/kitchen is large and there is a washer/dryer on the carport. The kitchen is well appointed for cooking, WIFI works well, good breeze with open windows and floor/tabletop fans for each bedroom. Unfortunately, we experienced a power outage(due to high winds/downed trees) two of our three days there so we didn't get to take full advantage of anything electrical. We were thrifty with the hot water and still had warm showers and recharged phones/kindle/camera in car. The next door neighbor was kind to offer to charge electronics(he had a generator) and use of his outdoor grill. Since we were out most of each day, the power outage was a minimal impact. Contacted the owner just so he was aware for next renters as the outage was predicted to be days(maybe a week) and I know he was working to find alternate arrangements for them. We visited the Tropical Gardens, Lyman Museum, Hilo Farmer's Market, Volcanoes National Park. Since the power was out in Pahoa, some restaurants were closed but we ordered take-out pizza from The Black Rock Cafe which was good, ate great burgers and local beer at the Burger Joint in Hilo, also had a good meal at Pesto Cafe in Hilo. I would recommend this to others for a clean, roomy and affordable base to explore this region of the Big Island.
I would highly recommend this rental. We traveled there with our two girls (10 and 15) to visit my husband's father. His dad's place was only 15-20 mins from the house. What a nice, quiet neighborhood! The frogs and such at night weren't overly loud and only occasional road noise or barking dogs. It was a nice, relaxing home after a busy day hiking or snorkeling. All the facilities were clean and comfortable, the laundry was really handy to have - we didn't have to travel home with a ton of dirty clothes - also means we didn't have to pack as much. There were also plenty of extra towels, sunscreen, etc in the closets which was very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!
Myself, my boyfriend and another couple had the opportunity to stay at Don's beautiful home in Hilo. It was perfect, we even had an extra room that we didn't know what to do with. We arrived to Hilo at 6am and although our check-in time was 3pm, he was super accommodating and let us check in early. He even let us check out super late because our flight wasn't till 8pm. The house had everything we needed. Every kitchenware imaginable, loads of clean towels for bathing and for the beach, snorkel gear, great quality shampoo and conditioner, etc etc! We couldn't be happier. One thing I had to do was rewash the master bedroom sheets, smelled a little musty. I think maybe the previous tenants made the bed before leaving so the cleaner didn't wash them. It says when checking out to keep the beds unmade so that the cleaner can wash them. The coqui frogs were not a nuisance to us at all. In fact they sounded soothing. Location is great if you have a car and want to go on many adventures throughout Hilo. It is in the middle of Hilo town, Kapoho Tidepools, Black sand beach, Volcano Park, and Mauna Kea (we made it to Mauna Kea in 1 hour). Thank you very much for the greatest house we could've stayed in! I will definitely come back again.
This house is relaxing. It is close to town and the world class snorkeling of the Puna region. We had a really happy, chill time here. The yard is so cute and well manicured. The inside is inviting, well-stocked, and peaceful. If you want to really unwind - this is a great place to do it. The town of Pahoa is also a nice place to get into a true Hawaii vibe. All in all - just a great experience, excellent location, and really helpful owner.
