Overview

Cabo Matapalo Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 6 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 20)

In one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth, there is a paradise that only God could have imagined. The Pacific Ocean stretches out to the horizon. In the distance, one can see the tip of Panama across the Gulfo Dulce. Behind you are hundreds of acres of primary forest teaming with wildlife. Below are magnificent beaches with some of the best fishing and surfing the world has to offer. It's only a short hike down our path.

Built over 500 feet above the sea, Tres Palmas catches the cooling tropical breezes coming from the Gulfo Dulce and Pacific Ocean. The sound of the surf rolling in the distance, scarlet macaws calling to their mates, while howler monkeys cavort overhead, lull you into a sense of harmony with nature.

In the midst of this spectacular setting, a secluded and exotic house has been built in modern Spanish style under a massive artificial palm thatched roof. We used the artificial thatch to give it the look of real palm thach with none of the problems.

The area was once home to the Brunca Indians that settled in southern Costa Rica and the western part of Panama. Pieces of native pottery can be found by those that care to look. The Indians considered this a holy place and many who stay here find a spiritual peace that is quite uplifting.

Our property is home to four types of monkeys, hundreds of bird species including tucans and scarlet macaws, sloth, iguana, anteaters, and a myriad of other animal species. Plant specimens are varied and abundant. This magical place offers the rare opportunity to experience nature at its most spectacular and unspoiled.

Testimonials

A Memorable Trip

The trip from Puerto Jimenez (12 miles or a 45 minutes drive) to Tres Palmas was like a fairly tale drive through thick tropical forest and lush vegetation running down from the mountains and touching the ocean to our left. Birds and wildlife were abundant, but there was a noticeable lack of traffic, road signs, power lines and people. Perfect!

Along the way we quartered the Gulfo Dulce and at times came to open cattle pastures with majestic views of tubing waves breaking at point breaks in the distance.

Once we reached the entrance to Tres Palmas the fun really began! The drive up and down the 1 mile road was steep and exciting! The size of the trees towering all around us was incredible and we could hear and see howling monkeys. My immediate thoughts were, “We've found paradise!” But the best was yet to come. The Tres Palmas property overlooks Cabo Matapalo. The vista is downright breathtaking. I've never witnessed a more moving perspective in all of Costa Rica!

The amazing thing about this area is that there are so many amazing things to do and see. Within a walking distance you can experience world class surfing, hiking, wildlife, beach combing, fishing and much more.

The accommodations and food were all 5 star class.

This was my fifth multi-week trip to Costa Rica and hands down because of our visit to Tres Palmas it will be always the most memorable and exciting.

Truly, Paradise on the Osa

  • 5 of 5

Tres Palmas is absolutely breathtaking. The attention to detail in respect to the lodgings were far beyond my expectations. The craftsmanship of the main building and cabanas showed all the hallmarks of skilled crafters, even down to the hand carved reliefs on all of the solid wood doors. The grandeur of Tres Palmas is further heighted by the fact that this beauty is in fact smack dab in the middle of the Jungle The surrounding jungle and trees were teaming with wildlife every day. We spotted the majority of the may species from the comfort of the negative edge pool or within a short walk from the houses. I read that this area was rich in plant and animal species but never expected it to be literally outside my bedroom door. But wait.... as if this was not enough sensory overload it got better. World renowned surf was breaking just a short, but steep hike, away. The hike down to the beaches in the mornings were fantastic. The caretaker (Marvin) and his wife (Yerlin) were first class all the way. From the superior meals they cooked for us (there were 6 in our party) to the cleanliness of the house. Marvin was also very informative about the local culture, terrain, safety precautions, pointing out wild life and just being an all around wonderful person. Thinking back now, after being back in the states for a week, all I can say is WOW!!! Words really can not describe this place. One has to immerse themselves in order to get a full understanding.

THANK YOU!! Marvin, Yerlin and family.

Incredible experience!

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start?! What a wonderful, unique experience. Everyone was speechless for a few minutes when we first got there, blown away by the awesome view of jungle and ocean. We sat in the pool and watched the monkeys in the trees, not to mention numerous birds and other animals. We had Marvin and yerlin (caretakers) cook for us...every meal excellent. Best guacamole I've ever eaten! They were very helpful in helping us arrange tours. But, mostly we hung out at Tres Palmas and the beaches close by, relaxed, and soaked up the incredible beauty of the area.

A Jungle Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our family and a few of our closest friends stayed at Tres Palmas in April and were overwhelmed by the wonders there. We were so lucky to find this amazing places sitting high above Cabo Matapalo where the jungle meets the beach. Marvin met us at the airport and was an indispensable asset throughout the trip. From nighttime journeys to see sea turtles laying their eggs to a hike into the jungle to enjoy a local waterfall - Marvin handled it all and he can cook too! The property was amazing and the rooms and cabinas were gorgeous and kept immaculate. The wildlife was awe inspiring. We saw 3 different kinds of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, coati, frogs, tamandua and so much more. There is no way to explain how wonderful this place is. We cannot wait to come back.

Magical place, magical people

  • 5 of 5

We loved "Tres Palmas"! The wildlife around the property was as good as it gets. The villa offers every configuration of beds/rooms a large group could ask for. The caretakers not only cooked wonderful meals for our group, but they helped us organize some guided hikes and dinners in the neighborhood. Since we were deep in the middle of nowhere, having this kind of help was very useful. We liked the hike through the rainforest down to the beach everyday, and especially enjoyed "pan dulce" beach for its beauty and great community feel. We are still dreaming about our great adventure to this magical place, and planning to come back.
