During a visit, it is common to spot a wide variety of wildlife including dolphins, alligators, deer, osprey, and great blue heron. Bike rentals are available to take advantage of the island’s 30 miles of bike trails through the forest and connecting to the beach. Kiawah Island's beach slopes gently into the surf, making it an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. The hard-packed sand is perfect for jogging or biking.
Located in the West Beach area, the villa is very convenient to a variety of shopping and dining options. Steps from the villa, the Straw Market includes a restaurant, ice cream shop and convenient island stores.
Just outside the Kiawah entry, Freshfields Village and Bohicket Marina & Yacht Club offer an assortment of boutiques, a full grocery store, restaurants and convenience services.
With several outstanding courses, Kiawah is a world-class golf destination. The Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point is ranked as one of the top-10 courses in the state and has hosted several important championships. The Pete Dye-designed Ocean Course hosted the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 1997 World Cup and the 2003 World Cup Championship. The Ocean Course provides panoramic ocean views on most holes and is known as one of the country's most-beautiful and demanding rounds of golf.
Kiawah is also rated as one of the top tennis resorts in the country by Tennis Magazine. Kiawah boasts two state-of-the-art tennis centers and a wide array of teaching programs. The West Beach facilities are adjacent to the villa site and feature composition courts, hard courts and lighted courts for nighttime play.
Kiawah is extremely kid friendly, offering a wide array of recreation programs for the whole family. The 21-acre Night Heron Park features basketball courts, volleyball courts, soccer fields, a nature center and a fitness trail. Programs include birding and crabbing tours, outdoor concerts in Night Heron Park, and sand sculpture contests. While all guests on Kiawah Island can access park programs, Resort Pool access is not included with the rental.
